00:00The passion, the topics is what we do in the Sports Grid Network.
00:03We love to hit those.
00:04And if it strikes a nerve, good, because that's what it's supposed to do.
00:07For me, I don't like the New England Patriots as an organization.
00:10I don't like Robert Kraft.
00:11I don't like Tom Brady.
00:12I don't like any of the Patriots that say, hey, Gronkowski's on TV and Edelman and Bruschi.
00:16We're tired of hearing about stupid stories from the early 2000s about the Patriot way.
00:21But understand this.
00:22I also understand that Tom Brady's the single best football player I've ever seen as long
00:27as I've been walking this earth.
00:28So there is a respect on that where this guy is a trained killer and he's going to
00:32get ahead any specific way he can.
00:35But understand this, Joe Aneri, that we just talked about in the previous segment.
00:38There's ways the NFL can get around this and there's ways the NFL just to say, hey, you
00:42can't have it both ways.
00:44What is so hard about this?
00:45Hey, Tom, if you're going to own a team, you can't be in the broadcast booth and you just
00:50can't be mingling with the players.
00:52You're an owner.
00:52Act like it.
00:53Cool, right?
00:54Or, hey, Tom, sell your share in the organization.
00:58You can be a coach.
00:59You can interview whoever you want.
01:01You can do whatever you want at this point.
01:03You can't have it both ways.
01:05Why are we doing this in the NFL where Tom Brady is looking to have it both ways?
01:09Because the whole drama started where Tom Brady's in the coach's booth with a headset
01:14on as an owner and a guy that calls football games.
01:17This can't happen.
01:18The optics are terrible, Joe.
01:22And it's so funny, Donny, because in a league who was so adamant over the years about protecting
01:29the shield, the image, right?
01:32What people think, right?
01:34Perception is reality.
01:36And yet on a Monday night game in front of a national audience, we're cutting away to Brady
01:42with a headset on in the coach's booth when he is part of the Fox broadcast team, who
01:48also, by the way, allows him to be able to sit into production meetings and get to see
01:54and talk to the other team that's going to play the Raiders and so on and so forth.
01:59So this is all created.
02:01Don't forget, he signed the deal to be a broadcaster before he ever bought in to the Raiders.
02:06So he had already decided, I'm going to go into broadcasting after playing, and then it
02:12wasn't until after that where he's like, hey, Mr. Davis, you want me to be part?
02:16I'll be part owner.
02:18You allowed this from the get-go, the NFL, and this is what you deserve.
02:23And I don't understand this.
02:24Can we post that graphic here from The Athletic?
02:27Because I just want to, it encapsulates everything that the NFL should be worried about.
02:32You see the James Palmer tweet at the bottom.
02:33Tom Brady meets with Chip Kelly two to three times a week to go over film and go over the
02:37game plan.
02:38Keep in mind, he's the owner.
02:39And every weekend, Brady is calling a game for Fox, gathered as much information and intel
02:43as he can to broadcast it.
02:45Then The Athletic, with the quote tweet, basically says, this Sunday, Raiders minority owner Tom
02:49Brady will call America's game of the week on Fox when the Dallas Cowboys visit the Chicago
02:53Bears.
02:53Chicago's week four opponent, Vegas.
02:55He can ask questions.
02:57What to look out for?
02:57What to do?
02:58Translate that information back to his team for a competitive advantage.
03:02I don't understand.
03:02It's almost the equivalent of insider trading, which you cannot do.
03:07I'm going to play both ends of this.
03:08I'm going to gather intel and I'm going to share that intel with my team that I have a
03:11vested interest in.
03:13Some people might say, oh, it's not that big of a deal.
03:15The optics are the big deal.
03:17What does the NFL always try to be the caretaker of?
03:20If somebody is gambling in the NFL or information is getting out, we're not going to allow that
03:23because even if it doesn't influence the game, Joe, you have an influence over the public
03:28and the betting public and everybody thinking things are rigged.
03:31This has to stop.
03:32And it's a simple choice.
03:33Tom, do you want to own a franchise or do you want to be a part of the NFL?
03:37You can't have it both ways.
03:39You can't.
03:40And for those of you that might not completely understand what we're talking about here,
03:47take, for instance, this week, Brady's going to be in Chicago because he's going to be calling
03:52the Cowboys and the Bears game.
03:54All right.
03:55All right.
03:55So what's the big deal?
03:56It has nothing to do with the Raiders.
03:57Right.
03:58Except for next week when the Raiders are playing the Bears.
04:02And guess who gets to have complete access in that Cowboys-Bear game as a broadcaster
04:09to everything the Bears are doing?
04:12And do you not think after watching him with a headset on that he is not taking notes and
04:18he is essentially, Donnie, a roving spy for the Raider organization where he can take all
04:25the inside knowledge he gets as a broadcaster and also relay that over to Chip Kelly and
04:30Pete Carroll and company?
04:31It's just the optics are horrific.
04:35Did you also see where the NFL was trying to make up the landscape of, oh, it's okay because
04:40he can talk to the players on the phone as long as he doesn't meet with them in person.
04:46What does that even mean?
04:47That doesn't even make sense.
04:49Do you remember in the past it's like, okay, if we're going to suspend a head coach like
04:51Belichick, you suspend the two games, you got to stay away.
04:53And they somehow come up with like burner phones to communicate because you're not supposed
04:56to have any communication.
04:58So now we're led to believe like if you meet in person, oh, he can get all the information.
05:02But if he picks up the phone, he gets all the information.
05:05That's somehow okay.
05:06And also Warren Sharpe with a tweet put out.
05:08So in the last 48 hours, the NFL deleted a tweet that they sent saying Tom Brady works
05:14closely with Chip Kelly to put game plans together because that shouldn't be happening.
05:17And number two, filed a copyright claim on a broadcast video showing the Eagles were false
05:21starting on multiple tush pushes.
05:23What is happening at the shield?
05:25You're right.
05:25It seems like it's cover up season for the NFL.
05:28When again, Joe, if you just follow the rules, the optics are fine, but it seems like, boy,
05:34we like the superstar power of Tom Brady being back in the NFL and yeah, he's calling games.
05:39It could be a conflict of interest.
05:41Now he owns a football team.
05:42Now he gets information, can share with his team when nobody else can do that, but it's
05:45okay because he's Tom Brady.
05:47How did we get here?
05:48Yeah, again, this is all self-inflicted by the NFL because it's Tom Brady.
05:54They would not allow this with any other player in the history of the game, Donnie.
06:00No other player would have been allowed to A, be in a broadcast booth and then all of a
06:07sudden be part owner of a team and everyone think they would not have allowed this in
06:12a era, I guess, long gone here now, except when Tom Brady wants to do it.
06:17When Brady does it, here we go.
06:19If you thought the refs were Brady friendly back when he was playing, Donnie, that is
06:26nothing compared to what the NFL is doing, tripping all over themselves to allow this
06:31guy to basically be a spy for the Raiders organization and do it under the guise of, well,
06:39he's a broadcaster, right?
06:41So, I mean, you know, there's no rules against that.
06:44I mean, what's next for Tom Brady?
06:45Like, he's going to be on the practice field in a Raiders uniform and after that, he's going
06:49to be holding a clipboard as the emergency fourth quarterback on Sundays here and owner
06:53slash operator on the sideline.
06:56We're getting that close at this point.
06:57It's amazing that, like, Tom Brady, you'd think would have self-awareness, like, boy,
07:01this is a really bad look and I'm bringing scrutiny on the organization.
07:04I probably should just step away from this and leave it up to the players.
07:07No, he's not doing that.
07:08It's almost like full gas, like being on a primetime football game in the coach's booth with
07:13a headset you knew would be terrible optics.
07:15And he just didn't care at that point.
07:17More NFL news notes and topics coming to you right next on a Wednesday hump day edition
07:21of the Early Line.
07:24Yeah, NFL news and notes.
07:25We love it.
07:26We love to talk about it right here on the Early Line.
07:27It's a Wednesday.
07:28It's hump day.
07:28We get it.
07:29Tomorrow night, we're going to have an NFL football game in the AFC East.
07:33The Buffalo Bills, who look really good against the Miami Dolphins, who look ready to fully
07:37implode.
07:37But before we get there, so many injuries.
07:39And we talked ad nauseum already this week, Joe, about the quarterbacks that were saying,
07:43who's actually starting, what year is it in the NFL?
07:46Yeah, we get that.
07:47But if you take a look at the Buccaneers, who opened up the season 2-0 so far, Kalijah
07:52Kansi goes down with a pectoral injury, which is a devastating blow.
07:55One of the high risers at defensive tackle in the NFL.
07:58There could be a chance he comes back for the playoffs.
08:02But you're down September, October, November, and December, and probably done for the season.
08:07That's a devastating blow for the Buccaneers defensive line.
08:11Yeah.
08:11And it's unfortunate, Donnie, because this happens every year, even though we're going,
08:16oh my goodness, look at all these injuries.
08:18It's just an unfortunate part of the game.
08:21I mean, imagine what Detroit felt like, right?
08:25When Aiden Hutchinson, they knew he was gone early in the season for the rest of the year.
08:29So, you know, unfortunately, if things like this happen, Donnie, and they're always going
08:34to happen, kind of better it happens now than, let's say, in week 11 or 12, and then it rolls
08:40over into the following season and everything else.
08:43So, at least at this point, whether it be Burrow or you have an opportunity to get these
08:49guys back when it matters the most at the end of the year.
08:52Yeah, we'll see if it happens there.
08:54The Bucs, again, probably the lead dogs there in the NFC South, but never good to lose one of
08:58the better NFL players there, specifically in defensive tackle.
09:00He did it all.
09:01He was fantastic, and he's going to be down for some time if he can even make a comeback.
09:05Next story we'll talk about is the Carolina Panthers.
09:07Look, you're hired to be fired in the NFL.
09:09It's just the way it is.
09:10But Dave Canales, I don't think ever got a fair shake there in Carolina.
09:13He'll be fired shortly here.
09:15Bryce Young, good luck with that organization.
09:17You never got surrounded with enough talent.
09:19Well, why are you talking about this, Donnie?
09:20We're only two games in.
09:21Number one, the Panthers look like they stink again.
09:23And number two, the offensive line devastated with injuries here.
09:27Guard, Robert Hunt, toured biceps.
09:28Center, Austin Corbett, toured MCL, both headed to IR.
09:32Good luck, Panthers, in 2025.
09:35My goodness.
09:36Will they be the team as the last team to win a football game this year, Joe?
09:40I mean, this team, come on now.
09:41Goodness.
09:42Oh, I know.
09:43It's not good.
09:44But, you know, neither are the Dolphins, neither are the Giants.
09:48There are a lot of 0-2 teams, Donnie, in which you just can't get behind.
09:54Like, injuries or no injuries, they're going to be a fade moving forward.
09:58Although, I'll tell you, just like we witnessed Sunday against Arizona, and they didn't have
10:04those guys, they lost those guys by the time that game mattered in the fourth quarter anyway,
10:08a lot of backdoor covers could be coming.
10:11A lot of value watching this Carolina Panthers team, because as an offensive-minded guy with
10:18Canals, they still got some weapons offensively, you know, those empty netters alive and well
10:23in those backdoor covers here with teams like Carolina moving forward.
10:28It's crazy when you look at, like, NFL organizations.
10:30Like, if you're a fan of the Panthers, like, your season's basically already done.
10:32It's week number three coming up.
10:34Like, what do you do with yourself?
10:35Do you just, do you go back and watch some Clemson football?
10:37Do you buy into Chapel Bill down there in Carolina?
10:40I don't know.
10:41But my goodness, with that offensive line, and that team struggling, and that coaching
10:45staff, and a hot-headed owner, probably not going to work out in the way for Dave Canales
10:48here.
10:49I wouldn't know that, Donnie, as a Jets fan.
10:51I wouldn't know that as a Jets fan.
10:53You guys are living higher than what you're talking about right now.
10:55No idea what you're talking about, season being over in week two.
10:59I'll say it again.
11:00The preseason is my favorite time of year with a team, like, if I'm a Jets fan, probably
11:05for Carolina, because that is when hope reigns real, right?
11:08Like, yes, this is going to be it.
11:10Fields is going to be a good quarterback.
11:12Bryce, yeah, no.
11:14And then by week two, Donnie, we're like, all right, next year.
11:16There's always next year.
11:17Well, who's available in the draft?
11:18That's the life of fans in the NFL, of teams that have absolutely no shot of winning anything.
11:25Ah, come on.
11:26Don't you remember the day you got Brett Favre, the day you got Aaron Rodgers?
11:29Like, times were so good for the Jets, man.
11:31We finally got our quarterback.
11:32We're going to do some damage here.
11:33Have some fun.
11:34It's just the way it is.
11:35Hamstrings already creeping up on us once again.
11:37Every day we read about hamstrings.
11:39How about the Vikings placing Aaron Jones on IR due to a hamstring injury?
11:43He's down for multiple weeks.
11:44And, oh, yeah, their starting quarterback, he's out for probably a month as well.
11:48The Vikings getting devastated with injuries early in the season here.
11:52Yeah, not good.
11:53We saw this happen last year to the 49ers, right?
11:57It seems like every year, Donnie, there's a handful of teams that the injury bug just,
12:02you know, it hits.
12:03And next thing you know, you're like, wow, can they sustain it?
12:06But again, the good news for the Vikings is offensively, they were going to tread water.
12:11It was the defense that was going to have to be successful in order to keep them in games
12:16throughout the season.
12:17And that's still the case here with the Minnesota Vikings.
12:20How about the case with the Bengals signing Sean Clifford and Mike White to the practice squad
12:25here?
12:25Looks like we're going forward there with Jake Browning.
12:28And away you go into your season.
12:30My goodness, they got some good wide receivers.
12:31They got a bad defense.
12:32And I still don't know how the Jacksonville Jaguars actually lost that football game.
12:36It is what it is.
12:37It's the NFL.
12:38It's crazy at times.
12:39I love baseball.
12:40Joe Ranieri loves baseball.
12:42The Early Line loves baseball.
12:43The Sports Grid Network loves baseball.
12:45And that's what we do.
12:46We'll talk baseball in the month of September as we head into the playoffs, which start
12:49in October.
12:50And for me, as a Phillies fan, Red October, it's a lot of fun.
12:53It's crazy at Citizens Bank Park.
12:55Maybe this year, it won't get people out of the New York Mets to get upset and maybe make
12:58a deeper run into the playoffs.
12:59That's the end of here nor there.
13:00Because tomorrow, Joe, we have football back.
13:03That's week number three in the NFL.
13:04And don't you remember I told you people out there, it goes fast.
13:09What happened to the preseason?
13:10That's done.
13:11Week number one, so exciting.
13:12That's done.
13:13Week number two, love this.
13:14That's already done.
13:15You are in week three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
13:18It's going to go fast.
13:19Enjoy the time that you have.
13:21Tomorrow, week three will be on deck.
13:22That's the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills.
13:25Two teams, easy to say, Joe Ranieri, going in opposite directions.
13:29You look at the line.
13:30It opened at nine and a half.
13:31Bet all the way up to 12 and a half at some outlets, but a little bit of a buyback right
13:35now to 11 and a half at FanDuel, 11 and a half at Bet365, and the Westgate out there
13:40in Las Vegas.
13:42If you look at the total, opened up at 48 and a half, now sits at 49 and a half.
13:46The tough part is, we know Buffalo's better.
13:49We know Buffalo is at home, but also, do we have a knockout punch coming from the Buffalo
13:54Bills that ends that organizational run?
13:57I guess you could say for Tua and Tyree Kill and Jalen Waddell and your head coach Mike McDaniel,
14:02or do we see the Miami Dolphins fight back and get a victory on Thursday night?
14:08That seems far-fetched right now.
14:11Oh, no, that's never going to happen.
14:12It's never happened, Donnie.
14:13I mean, first of all, the Miami Dolphins have not beaten the Bills in Orchard Park since
14:202016.
14:20So if you think this version is going into Buffalo on a short week and somehow beating
14:27Josh Allen, and also, listen, Tua, 2-13 straight up away from home against teams with an actual
14:35winning record in his career.
14:37So if he's not in sunny South Florida playing a less than 500 team, it usually doesn't end
14:44well with Tua here and the Miami Dolphins, even though, Donnie, I mean, so far we've seen
14:50these night games here, Sunday night, Thursday night, Monday night, right?
14:54Dogs are 6-2 against the number so far to start the year here, but, I mean, let's be reasonable.
15:01This is the Dolphins we're talking about going to a place and taking on a quarterback.
15:05They have had zero success against over the years.
15:11All right, listen, people in Miami are praying it's a 42-10 game, so then Mike McDaniel doesn't
15:18even have to bother getting on the plane and come back to South Florida.
15:22They'll pack his stuff for him and send it, and he can relocate.
15:25That's how bad it is here in Miami.
15:28And you look at the, you know, odds to win the AFC East as of this morning.
15:32The Buffalo Bills, through two weeks of an NFL season, are minus 900.
15:37If we take a look at the updated numbers there, you see the Patriots 10-1, the Dolphins 35-1,
15:41and then 45-1 for the New York Jets.
15:44It's incredible.
15:45Like, we just started.
15:46Injuries happen in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills being bet like it's already over in the
15:50East, and maybe so.
15:51Now, tomorrow, as we take a look, very good weather in Buffalo compared to what it could
15:55be in November and December.
15:57But understand this.
15:58This total is sitting around a 49-and-a-half.
16:00Touchdowns are expected, and also the odds market does reflect that.
16:04Everybody's not plus money to score a touchdown.
16:06Take a look at Josh Allen as a quarterback.
16:07A minus 175 price.
16:09James Cook, who looked tremendous last week, even coming into the game with a hamstring issue,
16:13he was phenomenal.
16:14Minus 175 to score a touchdown.
16:16Then you see two Miami Dolphins, Tyree Kill and Devon Achan, plus 105 and plus 170.
16:22If we're looking at the touchdown market for you, Joe Ranieri, who cashes one in?
16:25It's one of those where I talk to myself and say, wait a minute, 175 and 175, they don't
16:31want you betting those guys, Joe.
16:33So you know those two guys will be in the end zone.
16:37Well, there'll be a lot of folks in the end zone here, mostly because that defense is a
16:42hot mess for the Miami Dolphins.
16:47So yeah, wide receivers looking good for Buffalo.
16:50Cook looking good.
16:51Allen looking good.
16:53The usual suspects, Dawson Knox looking good here.
16:56All of those guys are looking good here simply because the Dolphins are not going to be able
17:02to stop any of them.
17:04That secondary is gross.
17:07So Josh Allen, going to let a few fly, I think, in this game here on Thursday night.
17:12Yeah, I haven't gone back and watched the entire game yet for the Buffalo Bills against the New
17:17York Jets, but they were basically on autopilot in that game.
17:19But here's the contrast that you want to use, right?
17:21Game number one, it was like, okay, well, you know, the Buffalo Bills beat down the Raiders
17:26should beat the Ravens in an unbelievable comeback.
17:28Understand this coming into the season.
17:30Joe, the Ravens are supposed to be a top three, top five defense.
17:33After game number one, I don't know how good the Ravens are.
17:35Flip on the tape where the Ravens then played a regular team, as I like to say, in the Cleveland
17:40Browns.
17:40They beat the tar off of that team.
17:43They had an unbelievable, ridiculous touchdown that Joe Flacco threw that should have been an
17:46interception, and at the end of the game, they had a Dylan Gabriel nobody cares about
17:49touchdown drive.
17:50So in a sense, they go up three points to the Cleveland Browns.
17:53The reason I bring that up is the Miami defense isn't that good, and if Buffalo is going through
17:57like a hot knife through butter for a Jets defense, let's say what you want, has a defensive
18:01coordinator as a head coach and was supposed to be a decent defense, blasted them.
18:05They moved right through the Baltimore Ravens defense.
18:08Where does that leave the Dolphins defense, as Joe brings up, where they probably can't stop
18:11anybody in that secondary?
18:13Josh Allen, 233 and a half as his passing prop and a touchdown prop over one and a half
18:17touchdown passes, had a minus 154.
18:20That's my key right here.
18:21The Buffalo Bills offense doing maybe whatever they want against Miami's defense?
18:26Well, they will, because they've done it already two weeks to two much better defenses, and the
18:33crazy part, Donnie, is how they've been doing it.
18:35They have basically been running down the throats of the Ravens and the Jets.
18:42Two teams that, you know, certainly have been known to be able to stop the run.
18:48The Bills are using a power running game and then taking their shots down the field with
18:52Josh Allen at a crazy rate.
18:55Yeah, I think you're going to be a long night for Miami.
18:59How many stops are they truly going to get here?
19:01Yeah, the one guy that you've been watching, like Tyreek Hill actually had a couple of
19:05nice catches last week.
19:06Deep balls.
19:07One, Tua Tagovailoa underthrew him, made a nice comeback, which is that 40-plus game.
19:10Well, finally, you saw him go over 30 yards.
19:12Hit another 20-plus yard catch.
19:13Waddle looked okay.
19:14But I thought Devon Achan really was a difference maker last week, even in the loss against the
19:18New England Patriots.
19:19It feels like you're going to have to force feed him, and not just on the ground, but in
19:22the air.
19:23But then we talk about Tua Tagovailoa.
19:25You know what happens when you drop him back 40 times.
19:27It's going to be interceptions, and it's going to be concussions, Joe.
19:30Yeah, and that's always the fear with him, and it has been for a while.
19:35And he doesn't do well on the road against really good teams.
19:39Now, the Bills' defense is still a little banged up, so they might be able to take some
19:44shots.
19:44But the best way to do it, to have a shot at winning this game and covering, is to keep
19:49Josh Allen on the sideline.
19:51I don't know if they can do that.
19:53Yeah, Mike McDaniel.
19:54What's that mean, Mike?
19:55Yeah, get into a shootout with Buffalo and see what happens.
19:57It's over 50 points.
19:58You've got to love that here.
