00:00Let me go to the NFC North.
00:02Let me go to the Bears.
00:03And I'm going to make a comment to you about the best coach that handles
00:07quarterbacks is Ben Johnson.
00:10And I say that because of the versatility that he showed.
00:14Here's a guy that was the offensive coordinator in Detroit with a very
00:18non-mobile guy in Jared golf.
00:20And he's throwing the ball all over the yard.
00:22He gets a very mobile quarterback and Caleb Williams,
00:27and he ends up winning a division title in his very first year with a
00:30completely different style of play.
00:33You know,
00:33every coordinator likes to have a certain style that they want to have fit
00:37what they want to execute their offense.
00:40I think Ben shows his versatility.
00:42Whoever is given to him,
00:44he turns those guys into winners.
00:46I mean,
00:46look what he did for golf.
00:48He rejuvenated his career and now look what he's doing with Caleb Williams.
00:51Am I off base when I make that comment about Ben Johnson,
00:54the head coach of the Bears?
00:56Not at all.
00:57I think Ben Johnson's done really a terrific job at his,
01:00both of his most recent stops.
01:02And I think you've hit the nail on the head on what coaches need to do.
01:06And often the failure at the NFL level is when a coach comes in and has
01:10personnel that doesn't fit what he wants to execute instead of kind of being
01:14malleable and saying,
01:15all right,
01:16I should adapt to my personnel.
01:18They try to bring in personnel that says,
01:20Hey,
01:20we're going to run this system.
01:21So you end up losing talent.
01:23You end up bringing in guys that maybe you're familiar with.
01:26I kind of look at what the Titans are doing right now.
01:28The Titans have signed a lot of players who played for Robert Sala at various
01:32stops and Brian Dable,
01:34the offensive coordinator from the giants.
01:36So,
01:36you know,
01:37these players are talented,
01:38but instead of just saying,
01:40all right,
01:40let me look at what I have and see how we can build this out and what we need
01:43to build around.
01:44Instead,
01:45they're bringing in a lot more of just familiar face type guys and saying,
01:48all right,
01:48we're going to run this stuff.
01:49We're familiar with.
01:51I think coaches get themselves in trouble doing that.
01:53Sometimes you have to be malleable.
01:55You have to look at what are the guys that I have?
01:57What are their skill sets?
01:59What are they best at?
02:00Let's build around that.
02:02And then good.
02:03We'll follow there.
02:03I think going back to the Denver Broncos a while back when Tim Tebow was the
02:07quarterback,
02:08Mike McCoy built an offense that was like,
02:10all right,
02:10we're going to be really run heavy.
02:11We're going to make Tebow run because that's how we're going to win games.
02:14And,
02:15you know,
02:15Tebow never developed into a great passer,
02:17but he had that stretch of winning games because McCoy built the system
02:20around him and didn't try to pigeonhole him into a system that would have
02:24made him have to be a high volume passer.
02:26So I think you're right about Ben Johnson.
02:28He's adapted to his quarterbacks and that's one of the reasons he's found so
02:31much success at this stage in what is still a young NFL career for him.
