00:00Coach, I want to ask you about a guy that is really kind of taking people by storm here.
00:05And I didn't even know who the hell this kid was, Tyler Shook.
00:07And the job that Kellen Moore has done with him, Tyler Shook's leading the league after two weeks.
00:13And I know it's a small sample size, but he's leading the league in passing yards.
00:18Have you been impressed with him?
00:20You know, I just saw him this past weekend for the first time, and I was kind of blown away
00:24by him.
00:25Just, he looks so comfortable for a new guy, you know.
00:29And that shook me a little bit like what Kurt was when he came on the scene.
00:34It's really accurate.
00:35And, of course, Kellen's doing a great job with him, too.
00:38He's given him some great opportunities in the passing game.
00:42There's a real good blend there offensively for him.
00:45He's doing a great job calling plays for him.
00:46And I think that has a lot to do with his success.
00:49And guys are making plays for him, too.
00:51But the accuracy and seeing things, the whole thing about digestion, which you see quickly, you know,
00:56that part of the game is certainly there.
00:59He looks very comfortable.
01:00He looks like he's been playing for a long time, and that's – he's a real deal.
01:05Coach, when you're – would you want to coach a dual-threat quarterback like Lamar Jackson?
01:11Would you want to coach somebody like that?
01:13Or do you think you put your team in too much risk when you're being asked to do that?
01:17Like, run the ball.
01:19You're talking about extra hits.
01:21Guy gets hit enough in the pocket, Coach.
01:23Coach, is that your style of guy that you'd want?
01:25Do you think you could adjust to something like that?
01:27Or do you like what Kyle Shannon – because Kyle Shannon, the reason I asked this, Coach,
01:31you saw when he had Trey Lance, he really couldn't go down the lane there with a dual-threat guy.
01:35Jimmy Garoppolo and you've got Brock Purdy, they're kind of the same style quarterback.
01:40Do coordinators want to go with a certain set style that fits the way that they call plays?
01:46I think you've got to lose – you can't lose sight of the fact that the quarterback is –
01:52first and foremost, he's got to be a terrific passer.
01:55If he's a good passer and he's good – no.
01:58You've got to establish him as a passer.
02:00And then whatever comes with the running part of it, that's great.
02:03Like Steve Young.
02:05You know, you're not going to design – and Steve was a terrific runner.
02:08And we played against him.
02:09I mean, he just ran circles around us.
02:11But it wouldn't design, it just happened.
02:13But he's a terrific passer, and that's why he's a Hall of Fame quarterback.
02:16Nobody's going to be a Hall of Fame quarterback because they're kind of a good passer
02:19and kind of – but a great run.
02:20It's not going to happen.
02:21You're going to score and make plays with your arm, and you're going to be unusual with your legs.
02:27And I think that's where they are in Baltimore.
02:29He's capable of being a terrific passer.
02:31They just center on that and let the rest of it just happen.
02:35Coach, I'll tell you, back in the day – and this is when Montana got hurt
02:39and then they put Young in.
02:41He came in and won the MVP.
02:42I remember our team coordinator going, hey, don't get Montana hurt.
02:46And we're all going away because Young was running around like a maniac,
02:52but he was one of the most accurate quarterbacks of all time.
02:55No question.
02:56If people ask me who my favorite quarterback all time was, and there's a lot of great ones,
02:59but if I had to pick a guy, I'd pick Steve Young just because of that.
03:03He was so accurate.
03:05But we played him when I was at the Rams in L.A.
03:07We went up there.
03:08We had him beat at 56 to go, 50 seconds to go, no timeouts.
03:12He takes off and scrambles 55 yards for the game winner.
03:16What do you do?
03:17You know, you can't – how do you count for all that?
