00:00We set the 53-man roster in Reading for the 2026 NFL season.
00:05Jacob Kemmiker from USA Today joins us now here.
00:08And always a tough day, but are you expecting any big names
00:12that we may see on the waiver wire that may get through
00:15that could be out there that maybe be a casualty of the numbers
00:19that we see always when we have to set this 53-man rosters for the teams?
00:24Yeah, Dan, every time we have this cut day, you know,
00:27there's always talk about, like, is there going to be a surprise cut?
00:29Is there not?
00:30Or is it just going to be more of the, you know, guys who are battling
00:33for those back-end roster spots and who might land back on the practice squad?
00:36But the two guys that I'm keeping an eye on just in terms of name value,
00:40Odell Beckham Jr. with the Giants I think is fascinating.
00:43You know, he's had a pretty good preseason.
00:45He's looked maybe not as great as he was in his prime,
00:48but he looks like he could be a potential contributor at receiver.
00:51John Harbaugh said he's done enough to make an NFL roster
00:54but wouldn't commit to him, you know, necessarily making the Giants.
00:57So I think the Giants are probably going to release one veteran receiver,
01:00whether it's Odell Beckham Jr., Darius Slayton, someone else there.
01:04So I'd be keeping an eye on the Giants receiver room
01:06because if a veteran gets cut there,
01:07they could easily land somewhere else for a receiver-needy team.
01:10And then the big one, J.J. McCarthy with the Vikings.
01:14Is he going to make the team?
01:16By all indications, it sounds like, you know,
01:19he lost the starting job to Kyler Murray,
01:21and now it sounds like Carson Wentz might be ahead of him for the backup job.
01:24So, you know, I think the Vikings would maybe be willing
01:28to consider keeping McCarthy as the third-string quarterback,
01:31trying to develop him behind the scenes.
01:32But this just seems to me like a situation
01:35where both sides could benefit from a fresh start.
01:38I just don't know if the Vikings are going to be willing
01:40to pull the plug on such a recent first-round pick
01:43without potentially getting anything in return.
01:45I just don't know if he's going to be willing to do it.
01:46I just don't know if he's going to be willing to do it.
01:46I just don't know if he's going to be willing to do it.
01:46I just don't know if he's going to be willing to do it.
01:46You
