00:00It did.
00:01Did you watch any of the game last night?
00:03I tried to for work purposes.
00:05I tried to for work purposes.
00:07I mean, I, I, I, it's shine.
00:10Did you watch?
00:11If anybody, you, I, I watched for like a total of three and a half.
00:15Yeah.
00:16I tuned in in time to see Gabe Akis completely miss a tackle in the
00:21backfield.
00:22Absolute whiff on the play.
00:23That's about the QB keeper about the only thing of interest.
00:27And I, Curtis has been on this for a while that there's zero value in
00:33preseason games and he might be right.
00:35You might, you've said it too.
00:36I don't watch it.
00:37I don't even invest time into it.
00:40I'd rather watch an episode of lioness or furious or whatever one I'm
00:44watching versus seeing guys.
00:47And listen, I've been a part of preseason and to me it's for the,
00:50especially now it's really for the bubble guys.
00:54Well, you look at the, like the, take a look at the Seahawks.
00:58They have, they've yet to start their starters at all in preseason.
01:02So basically that game in a week and a half,
01:05it'll be two teams that haven't played a single down in,
01:09in a preseason game.
01:11Well, that's the, that's the new way of the NFL.
01:12Like when I, when I was in the league and we had four preseason games,
01:16your starters always played.
01:18They played a lot in the third game, the third preseason game.
01:21That was the game that you really played a lot in as a starter.
01:24But now when you start to look and maybe it's because there's more joint
01:28practices, but when you start to look at preseason, just league wide,
01:33a lot of these teams don't play.
01:35I mean, you think about this.
01:36Drake may is in his, what is this?
01:40His third year, third year, like two and a half.
01:44I would say, right.
01:45But going into his third year and didn't play any preseason snaps that like
01:51when I was playing,
01:51that was unheard of for any position,
01:55but that's the new normal in the NFL.
01:58You got guys like Hunter Henry didn't play a snap.
02:01There's plenty of guys that go down that list,
02:02but that's the way.
02:04So like who really watches preseason,
02:06unless you're somebody that wants to see who's a bubble guy.
02:09I literally did it for work purposes and I couldn't take much of it.
02:14I mean, I, it's, you have no idea who any of those guys,
02:18who any of those guys are.
02:20And then they're only playing so they can be cut.
02:23Is there, is the reason basically to try out for every other team in the NFL
02:27to see if they want to add them to the practice squad.
02:29And I think the Patriots and Seahawks are unique just because they played
02:32to the Superbowl.
02:33So they played so much extra football compared to a lot of other teams
02:37in that regard.
02:38But you're right, Greg, like last night's game is pointless,
02:42but that's what it is.
02:44And I heard Jones and Keith talking about this,
02:46and this is where a lot of people were, I don't want to say a lot,
02:48but I remember they were,
02:50or Jones was more upset that the starters or Drake made didn't play in any
02:55preseason games.
02:55He talked about how like Josh Allen played a series or two,
02:59but I just look at that's, you know,
03:01whether you make the Superbowl or you don't make the playoffs,
03:04like that's what these teams are doing.
03:06And I, and, and maybe it's because they're worried a guy gets hurt or maybe
03:10they feel like, well,
03:12what's the purpose of like a guy playing in a preseason game when he's going to
03:16be playing maybe against backups.
03:17It's all about getting hurt though.
03:19That's the bottom line.
03:20And if you're the player too,
03:21like, do you think Drake may wants to play in a preseason game?
03:23But I think you can also contend with the fact that a lot of guys at the
03:28beginning of NFL seasons,
03:30because they haven't played football at real speed,
03:33get hurt more often in those first three to four weeks of the season.
03:36And so I don't know,
03:38maybe joint practices helps with that,
03:40but a series or two,
03:42I don't think would kill you.
03:43Yeah.
03:44But see,
03:44I never buy into the whole get hurt thing.
03:47What is playing in a series or two?
03:49How is that going to make you physically better or put you in a,
03:53a position where physically you're less likely to get hurt in week one.
03:57If you play six plays,
03:59you would know better than any of us,
04:00but you say no,
04:01it doesn't make any difference at all.
04:03If you blow,
04:03if you blow your knee out,
04:05whether you played in every single preseason game or you didn't play in any,
04:10that's just the luck of the draw.
04:11I think it's more wiggy.
04:13I would say like the soft tissue stuff,
04:15like,
04:15but even,
04:15even the soft tissue stuff,
04:17like people go to that,
04:18like the hamstrings,
04:19the groins,
04:19all that stuff.
04:20If you're giving it 150% at practice every day,
04:23you're,
04:23you're using all those muscles.
04:25Nice deep ball to your guy,
04:27Kyle Williams.
04:28Again,
04:28last night,
04:29he's making a case to get some,
04:31uh,
04:31get some opportunity this year,
04:32Greg.
04:33I mean,
04:33great shimmy off the line,
04:35straight up beats the corner and Tommy DeVito,
04:38Tommy two chains with a nice little ball.
04:39All right.
04:40Well,
04:41Patriot season,
04:43uh,
04:43real season.
04:44Yes.
04:45Right around the corner.
04:47Hello,
04:47Greg.
04:47Good morning.
04:48Uh,
04:48I know last night's game was relatively uninteresting,
04:51no,
04:52completely uninteresting,
04:53but there was one thing I wanted to note from the game.
04:56Uh,
04:57and I thought it was very,
04:58uh,
04:59very interesting.
05:00Mike Vrabel talked after the game about why Ashton Grant was calling plays on offense and not Josh McDaniels.
05:07We can hear Vrabel,
05:08you know,
05:08just give Ashton an opportunity.
05:10Josh has called plenty,
05:11plenty of games in the national football league.
05:13And,
05:14uh,
05:14we think Ashton is a very,
05:16very good young offensive football coach and,
05:20uh,
05:20try to look for places to,
05:22to be able to give other coaches opportunities and felt like this was a good time for it.
05:27So I,
05:28one of the trends right now in the NFL is really young up and coming play callers.
05:33So I'm curious,
05:34especially Wiggy's thoughts,
05:35because I don't know if this is a common practice in preseason games for teams to allow younger court coaches
05:40like quarterback coaches,
05:41tight end coaches to call plays in a preseason game.
05:44Um,
05:45but I think this is,
05:46it's,
05:46it looks very unique to me.
05:48And is this Vrabel's way of preparing for a life without Josh McDaniels?
05:52Maybe.
05:53Or,
05:53if Curtis were here,
05:54he'd say,
05:54whoa,
05:55it's clear that Mike Vrabel hates Josh McDaniels.
06:00Yeah.
06:00I don't think that's the case.
06:01I,
06:02I,
06:02I have come off of that ledge a little bit,
06:04uh,
06:04over the last year or so,
06:05but like,
06:06I think there's still a chance that he recognizes at some point McDaniels might leave for another job.
06:11Or they may really covet Ashton Grant and may want him to eventually become the offensive coordinator.
06:19Or,
06:19I mean,
06:19listen,
06:20you ended up losing your,
06:21uh,
06:22defensive coordinator last season.
06:24Correct.
06:25Mid-season.
06:26Had a guy who,
06:27guy who had to jump in.
06:28Maybe it's like the ultimate,
06:30uh,
06:31preparedness on the part of,
06:33in case of emergency,
06:34on the part of Mike Vrabel.
06:35Well,
06:35I think what Shime said,
06:36uh,
06:37initially maybe because what's more likely to happen,
06:41right?
06:41Uh,
06:42is that,
06:42what's,
06:43is it Ashton?
06:44Is that Ashton Grant?
06:45Is it Ashton Grant?
06:47They,
06:47Vrabel goes,
06:48okay,
06:49I'm replacing Josh McDaniels.
06:51Um,
06:52no,
06:53or is it more likely that Josh McDaniels gets another job at some point?
06:57So I think it's more of that than anything.
06:58All right.
06:59Shime.
06:59Nice lead.
