00:00Drake or that? That being Brock Purdy, NFL touchdown. Oh, my God. You got to go Drake,
00:06right? No. Because the ceiling is so much higher. The ceiling is higher. Brock Purdy is very,
00:13very good. There's no doubt about that. But I need a guy who can win me the Super Bowl. I
00:17don't know
00:18that Brock can. So, I mean, yeah, hooks and ladders are cute, but I can like. I'm sorry. Why
00:23could Drake win the Super Bowl, but Brock Purdy not win the Super Bowl? I think there's still
00:28more of an upside with Drake. I think we know what Brock is. But they both, yeah, what we
00:32know is he's very, very, very good. Next. All right. All right. Brock Purdy is a comparison
00:42for Drake May. Good morning. It's Jeremy and Joe. It's Patriots week. Sabres also in action
00:49twice before that game even takes place. By the way, speaking of Brock Purdy, did you see
00:54the pass that he made on Sunday leaping out of bounds and while he's in the air throwing
01:02it back inbounds to the tight end who slid and made the catch? He is Purdy. He's making
01:09a fan out of me. I'll say that. Yeah. I think there's going to be a legitimate MVP conversation
01:14for him if this keeps up. Right? I, yes, it's, I know it's tough with Shanahan. Let me ask
01:22this. Why shouldn't, because who are the top two play calling coaches in the league? Who
01:29does everybody recognize on that pedestal? McVay and Shanahan. McVay and Shanahan. All, every
01:34time that conversation comes up, those two are on the mountaintop. Why should Matthew Stafford
01:40be able to win the MVP and Brock Purdy shouldn't be able to? Exactly. Just because we saw Stafford
01:45do it before McVay and because he has cool arm angles and I'm not telling you he's not
01:50great. I love Matthew Stafford, but I'm, I'm watching Purdy run around and do jump passes
01:56and like he's doing stuff off structure way more than the former Niners quarterbacks did
02:01like Garoppolo. Yeah. And, and he's got half of his team is injured. Everybody's hurt.
02:07Right. That doesn't play a role here. I mean, he's got nobody that he was expecting to have
02:13coming into the year and he's making, you know, lemonade out of the lemons. Yeah. I think that
02:18deserves some praise and some, you know, this guy's valuable. I just wonder if he can ever
02:24be so good that he separates himself from, well, you're just the product of your head coach is that
02:30good. And I think his draft status also plays in this like Stafford, even though it was a long
02:35time ago, guy's a number one overall pick. Like we know there was a talent level there,
02:39like a great, great talent level. Purdy was the last pick of a draft. That's going to hurt him
02:45in terms of ever getting the amount of credit that it would take for him to be considered one
02:51of the best quarterbacks in football, even though any number you look at, although I'm actually stunned
02:57to look right now, I'm like go to NFL pro, like the first number I look at, like what's, what's,
03:02he's going to be number one, right? Completion percentage over expectation. He's actually
03:05second. I was not ready mentally for Gino Smith to be number one in the NFL. Gino's having a hot,
03:11hot week, hot year so far. But there he is. How about just total EPA? He's at plus 55 on
03:17the
03:17season, like almost lapping the field. Prescott's at plus 34. Allen is a plus 29. He's at 55 EPA per
03:25dropback. He's number one, like almost everything. That's except that one number where Gino's number
03:30one. He's been awesome. That was a comparison though to Drake May. And I want to get into
03:35him a little bit because, so the stat I saw yesterday about Drake May and what he's done
03:43so far in his career. He has played 33 games for the New England Patriots. And in those first
03:5033 games, 7,200 yards, 47 touchdowns, 24 interceptions, and an 18 and 15 record. I saw
03:57Underdog Fantasy tweet this out. That it was a comparison between May and Tua. And it's
04:03pretty close to the same. Tua, it's 7,300 yards, so within 100 yards of each other. Touchdowns
04:09is 48 compared to 47. INT's 20 compared to 24 and his record was 23 and 10. Now, my first
04:17thought when I saw that was, and I didn't even mean, I didn't even go to look. I'm sure
04:21that it's more. But how many of those Tua yards were yak yards and like passes at the
04:28line of scrimmage while May, like last year, was throwing the ball down the field more than
04:32anybody in football. So the way those yards come, I'm sure are vastly different. But I
04:41just don't think May is going to at all go down the same path that Tua went down. The Tua
04:48path was, I think, very predictable. And it's why we yelled about him so much and debated
04:53him so much. Oh, he's leading the league in passing. But, you know, remember when Bills
04:59fans and Dolphins fans would fight about his training camp highlights? Yes. Yes. Do you
05:02see this pass? Like, after he led the league in passing, look at this training camp pass.
05:07This guy can't throw the football. It's like a duck that goes 15 yards, like 12 yards short
05:11of the guy. There's no way this is going to last. And it didn't. And sure, injuries are
05:16a huge part of that for him. But not all of it. He was healthy last year when it started
05:23to go the wrong way. And now it's like it's over. Right? Like, maybe he gets back in at
05:29some point for Atlanta or somebody else. But, like, that's over. Tua is not going to be
05:33a starting level quarterback in football probably ever again. So there's that career arc. There's
05:42the Josh Allen career arc, which definite times last year where, like, is this guy going
05:47to be this good? The New England game here where he's stiff-arming Daquan Jones to the
05:56ground. That play is the play, right? Yes. That sticks out in your mind for him. To
06:01Josh play. That's what he can do. And that's a Josh play. Yes. Right? Like, you're a defensive
06:05lineman. You can't bring me to the ground. I'm going to get away from you and I'm going
06:09to make a play. And then I think it was the next play or was the play before where he
06:12rips
06:13a ball at 100 miles an hour to Diggs for the first down. And it being Diggs, by the way,
06:19also, like, there were Josh comparisons. Like, is he going to go down that career arc? And
06:24the last seven games wouldn't tell you that. No. Not at all. At all. Not at all. There's
06:28a middle ground, right? What's the right middle ground, though? I don't think he's going
06:32to be Allen. I don't think he's going to be Tua. But is he, are we seeing, oh, this is
06:41the, maybe this is the CJ Stroud career arc where you were unbelievable early on and then
06:48we're going to be left figuring out how come it hasn't looked like that since? Or is it
06:53just shoulders screwed up? Maybe the coordinator isn't doing all he's supposed to. Matt Collins
07:00is your number one receiver. And, oh, no, this is going to come back and you'll be one
07:04of the best quarterbacks in football again. What do you think is most likely? There was
07:08a report yesterday about the shoulder from the Patriots. Some, some reporter had it. I
07:13forget who that the Patriots are unsure why he's talking about his shoulder in that way
07:17because there's no issue with it. Did you see Vrabel talk about the throw in the end
07:23zone? Not, no, I saw some. I didn't see that. No, we're going to have to, I'll, we'll
07:28play that. We'll have to play it. It sounds like it's hot over there. It sounds like they're
07:34panicking. They are, like the Patriots are panicking about it. And it looks to me like
07:40he's panicking. I mean, Florio yesterday made a good point. Like he was talking about throwing
07:44an interception because there was blood on the football. Yeah. Right. Like, dude, right.
07:49It looks to me more than anything, like a guy that's lost the juice in his own head. He,
07:55he is scared to do stuff out there and he's, he's forcing stuff when he doesn't need to
08:02and he's hesitating when he shouldn't. It looks like a guy that mentally is not right. He's
08:09always, he's super talented. The play you're talking about against the bills where like
08:13he's got that in there, but there's something that there's something very, very off about
08:19it. And I don't know how you fix that or go about fixing that. I mean, like Vrabel's
08:25giving him hugs on the sideline. That's where they're at. Pep talks, right? Pep talks. He's
08:30tearing up. He's falling apart mentally on the sideline. It looks bad right now. Yes.
08:35It couldn't, I don't really think it could look worse compared to what it looked like
08:39before. Yeah. What else? What, what, what, what, how much worse could it be without him
08:44like, like being pulled out of games? Yeah. Then there's this cover six thing, by the way,
08:49that we've talked about here and there, like Sean McDermott kind of showed the league the
08:54right way to defend him. And after he did that, the rate at which new England saw cover six,
09:01like spiked. And it's kind of been since then that he hasn't been playing all that well.
09:06I heard Ben Solak on that yesterday though, say, I don't think that's a Drake may problem
09:12that that is a Josh McDaniels problem that you look at the route concepts and the play designs
09:18that they are using against that coverage. And it's making it impossible for me to succeed
09:25against it. Like basically cover six is like covering the weak side in new England's got no,
09:32they're going all of the strong side. Like it's just like a perfect mesh for coverage of what
09:37McDaniels is drawing up for me. So he, he might, I think get a deserved excuse on that one narrative
09:44that's out there about him. But I'm, I'm watching a lot of that game against Jacksonville last week.
09:50And yeah, the arm doesn't look right. He doesn't look confident in decisions. The players around him
09:56don't look that great. We'll talk more about the matchup specifically, but I just, you can't tell
10:02if it's Mac Jones or Drake may right now. I feel the same way I did a week ago, which
10:08is what would
10:10it take the bill for the bills to lose this game? And last week, the answer was six turnovers
10:15because five wasn't enough. Would six even been enough? Maybe not. Right. Maybe not. What is it?
10:21What is the number this week? Cause I just, two teams look so totally different this early on.
10:29When we come back quick minute on a huge story in sports, a team that is cheating
10:35and I think should go on the list. The Mount Rushmore of cheating teams in sports.
10:40That's next. Joe Marino coming up at seven on the bills. Your phone call soon at 803-0550 here on
