One Nation's growing support will be put to the test this weekend, with Pauline Hanson's party going head-to-head with Labor in a west Australian by-election. The poll in Secret Harbour, south of Perth, will provide the clearest indication yet of any shift in the political landscape and if One Nation can turn frustration at major parties into seats in Parliament.

00:02A cut, colour and conversation.
00:05Have you voted yet?
00:07No, not yet.
00:08And with the by-election looming, there's plenty to talk about.
00:12They've got to listen to the residents.
00:14But I know who I'm going to vote for, so that's a start.
00:17The chat at this home salon is a glimpse into Secret Harbour in Perth South.
00:22I did vote for the Labor in the past, but I feel really let down by them.
00:27Everyone wants change more than anything.
00:31A mood for change in what was once a safe Labor seat, held by the party for almost 20 years.
00:37But the exit of a veteran MP and frustration with the major parties has created an opening.
00:44I used to be Labor, yeah, but I'm just tired of it now.
00:48I'm sort of thinking maybe One Nation.
00:50What happens here in Secret Harbour won't affect voting blocs in state parliaments,
00:55but across the country political strategists will be watching it closely.
00:59Especially leading into the Victorian state election.
01:03These outer suburban areas, mortgage belt seats as we often call them,
01:07that's traditional swinging seat territory where if a government's going to fall,
01:12the opposition picks up those seats.
01:14But at the moment in Victoria, is that opposition picking up those seats going to be
01:18the Liberal Party or One Nation?
01:20It's the first time this year Pauline Hanson's party has gone up against the government.
01:25Labor didn't run a candidate in the FARA by-election in New South Wales.
01:30It does seem to be a bit of a momentum behind One Nation,
01:33and so this will be the first real test of that momentum.
01:36And whether the orange wave can claim another seat, this time in Labor heartland.
01:42So, as of course, there's no conditions.
01:44If you were to develop around one country, this isn't,
01:44This isn't a very simple thing.
01:45So, James can play the game right,
01:45this doesn't open a game right now,
01:46Well, I'm gonna make you up over the next couple of years.
01:46I think I'm gonna be able to keep up on that side of the weather,
01:46I think you're getting the best ones.
01:46It's all been a bit crazy.
01:47It's really a bit.
