00:27but with that being said we we got to start with uh we got a new one now so you

00:33from camp and uh you can go back to college except now the sec and big 10 and now the
00:39big 12
00:39have said you can't play college once you've signed a contract lane kiffin goes i don't care what the
00:45sec commissioner daquan wright is going to play my old tight end at ole miss is going to be my
00:51tight end at lsu what's going to happen there joe i'm just surprised i'm doing this interview with
00:59you and they when they asked me to come on i thought you were going back to college also to

01:03to get in this loophole that kind of money yeah you'd have a guest host um you know look i
01:10mean this
01:11to me this is similar to brendan sewersby trying to play after after betting uh you know gambling on
01:18his own team that's like an unwritten it's you don't it's like you don't need to create a rule
01:24that you you can't do that and this is the same thing to me once you basically determine that you're
01:31going professional you actually play on a with a professional team you play in games you get signing
01:38bonuses with that professional team you're done but not not in today's society so um lsu's going to
01:46fight this you know we'll see if they're successful um you know the all of the conferences now all the
01:52power four conferences have put in uh you know language that prohibits this but again you've got
02:01now you're going to have lawyers that sued right successfully against the nca now trying to sue
02:06these conferences to get these kids eligible but you know i don't know they i mean the the big 10

02:16sec both i don't know if you saw the the penalties that they said will be uh that that will
02:23follow if
02:24you go through with this and we're talking you know 50 percent season game suspension um you know
02:31significant financial penalties but you know everybody's everybody's always trying to get an
02:37edge so it's just it's it's the latest uh yeah hold my beer it's the latest lawsuit to come down

02:44pike well on top of all that we got a judge that's already ruled giving it the green light to
02:50to happen
02:51so now you got commissioners basically going against a judge ruling on it and then the second part is
02:56lane kiffin and lsu are going directly against what the sec commissioner has said they're going to do
03:05are they going to suspend lane kiffin i mean he's kind of a that's a big franchise in the sec

03:12just uh i wonder what's going to happen or they let it go and say we got to it too

03:27um i'm not gonna i don't think it's going to be easy but i think i think it will hold

03:32the the conferences have come out and basically you know there's a line in the sand yeah you want
03:41to try to cross it that you're gonna you're gonna feel the wrath of the conference um you know and
03:47you know the for the sec the vote was 15 15 0 lsu chose not to vote um so they
03:56can say well we didn't
03:57vote we didn't vote against it or we didn't vote for it but um yeah joe i just think i
04:02don't i'd be
04:04very surprised and you know just like you said we've got we're only you know two days away from the
04:10games
04:11and hopefully we can stop talking about all this nonsense for uh yeah for a few months well the
04:17good news is once these games do start i i found out last year when the football games were great
04:21we had so many games of course what was going on with um down here and their great run at
04:25the end
04:25of the year nobody was talking about money speaking of um i know you spent some time uh with your
04:32with
04:32the team at the acc meetings and uh well what's your thoughts on just how good this canes team can
04:37be
04:38to what we saw a year ago you know i i think there are the differences last year not to
04:48the people
04:48inside the building but the people outside of the building or outside of coral gables um they probably
04:55snuck up on a lot of people maybe they didn't expect um miami to have that kind of breakthrough but
05:01that's that's that's over the gigs up everybody knows about um christopher and the hurricanes and
05:08um you know they're they're going to get everybody's best shot they're they're ranked among the top
05:13seven teams in the ap preseason poll which is great news because 19 of the last 22 years the national
05:19champion has ranked in the top seven in the preseason poll i love uh you know the change of quarterback

05:27talked to you about this before i think i think people people there view him as a combination of
05:33of back and uh cam ward um and you know the the thing that will determine i think how successful
05:44miami is is if they continue to have the strength on the offensive and defensive line obviously you know
05:54the defensive guys they they lost in the nfl um are huge they're already talking you know i saw people
06:00already projecting reuben bain uh being being one of the steals of the nfl draft um so can those guys
06:08be replaced you know the schedule sets up nicely and then they start out on the west coast stanford
06:17you guys want to get an idea what miami's playing stanford opens up saturday against hawaii
06:23um and then obviously you know things the heat really gets turned up in november when they go to
06:29south ben yeah it's uh it's going to be really fun they look so good even the young guys that
06:34are
06:34filling in look just they got so many super talented guys on that offensive line i can't wait to see
06:39them all play together hey uh i'm closer to your neck of the woods what's your thoughts on the florida
06:45gators i haven't heard much do they do they jump and have a nice year in the sec what do
06:50you expect
06:52well certainly you know john someral has got the fan base excited and that's something new for the
06:59last uh few years he's you know at the sec media days he without question he won the gold medal

07:06for best uh best one-liners and comments uh in the press conferences um so you know it's got everyone
07:16it's got everyone pumped up um you know bottom line is you got to show results on the field and
07:21they they haven't been able to do that you know he he's you know that that works when you win

07:30when you you know almost i don't want to put him in the same grouping as spurrier as far as
07:36his quips
07:36but um you know how they do at quarterback you know they've they've announced their quarterback
07:44they've i joe i i think a lot of people are really high on them i think they even got
07:49some votes in
07:50the top 25 poll i did not put them in my top 25 ranking i think it's too early um

07:56they go at auburn and they'll miss back-to-back for weeks three and four i think that'll give us
08:02an idea
08:03is this is this a new and improved edition of the florida gators are we again just looking at a
08:11team
08:11that's going to hover around six and six because the schedule is not easy no um so you've you've
08:18got to win the there's a lot of toss-up games you know at auburn to toss up old miss

08:24at missouri i mean it could it'd be easier to list the games that aren't toss-ups you you've got

08:29you got to win more of those than you lose and i think that'll be a question whether florida
08:34has a vastly improved season this year or it's just kind of pretty similar to last year the uh
08:41the other school the uh make up the big three where i've also spent money sending kids to school
08:46florida state i'm just curious um boy that seems like it's a hot seat for a head coach up there
08:52right now how do you think they bounce back this year well you're talking about the big three i
08:58thought you were talking about miami florida and but um yeah this is uh you know you and i are

09:07enough that we remember when they used to make dictionaries published dictionaries well if you
09:12look at the word hot seat you'd see mike marvel's picture right there but fortunately they don't
09:17publish those anymore so he's not in there um yeah it's this is a you know shock breaking news here
09:25this is a critical season um i actually think florida state you know keeps their head above water and
09:31gets to a bowl game the question is you know is seven wins six wins is even eight wins enough
09:38um for florida state and and their expectations um you know they've got a tomato can uh saturday
09:46new mexico state they can name the score there obviously they'll have a an eye on next week's game
09:51against smu projected to be you know i'd say the third either the second or third best team
09:58yeah um behind miami so that's that's going to be critical and then you go to alabama
10:04and what will be a huge revenge spot for the crimson tide so if they stumble against smu they could

10:12looking at a one and two start and when you're on a hot seat that's not great it's unfortunate but
10:21that's just today's climate so i'm not going to avoid the question but people ask me well is is florida
10:26would florida state make a move in season i don't know if they would i don't joe i don't think

10:31any benefit to that i don't either things do go south and if you want if you want to you

10:37exhibit 1a look at penn state last year they made the move on james franklin early and i'm not saying
10:43whether that was the right move or the wrong move but i'm saying when they did make it i think
10:47was the
10:48wrong move because their idea was okay now we're going to get ahead of this we're going to we're going
10:53to identify our candidates and we're going to get a jump on these guys and go get these guys
10:58well what happened they got half of college football new contracts because everybody locked
11:04up their guys so they wouldn't go to penn state and then they they lucked to matt campbell at the
11:09last minute so um i don't i don't think you would see an early move i don't see any advantage
11:16to it and
11:17the other thing is you know a lot of these schools when they want to make the change they put
11:21an interim
11:22in place well the worst thing which sounds weird is the interim then runs the table and now it's like
11:30okay are you pressured now do we have to hire the interim when we really had no intention of the
11:34interim because we're looking at guys from different schools but um you know florida state's got the
11:40talent that you know again i sound like a broken record i think quarterbacks yeah quarterback's going to
11:46be the the the issue here and ashton daniels i think he's a nice player but you you look at
11:52his
11:53i don't have it in front of me i forgot what it is but his win-loss record as starting
11:56quarterback
11:57is not is not let's just say it this way it's not good it's it's born 16 or something like

12:05you can't put it all on the starting quarterback but you know they they missed since they didn't get
12:11cam ward and miami got cam ward you just look at the trajectory of both programs and you know
12:16they're taking another flyer on a on a transfer quarterback hopefully for the knowles this one
12:22will work out a lot better than last last year before i let you go just real quickly uh clemson
12:28is a team that miami has to play this year he finally hit the transfer portal dabble hit it hard

12:34guys coming in he's he realized he's got to do it along with he's always been a pretty good high
12:40school recruiters how good can they be as miami has to go up there and play what do you expect
12:45from that team yeah well i mean you know don't count clemson out yet i look i don't think they're
12:52gonna i don't think they're gonna be the clemson of old and they're gonna win the acc and go to
12:56the college football playoff but also they're not you know don't pair them you know in the back
13:01end of the conference either um you know this is this is a big year for for dabble because
13:09you you know i know you got you guys hear and see what he says during the off season and
13:14you know he asked people asking about clemson and then he reels off how they've done in the last
13:20you know 10 12 years you know the the second winning this program winning this program whatever
13:26category you want to put it in the clemson's up there on the top which is is true but you

13:32nowadays you know what have you done for me today is what all people care about um you know chad
13:38morris is the new offensive coordinator he's had some ups and downs in the past we'll see how that
13:42works out they've got a monster opener at lsu they're you know over i think they're over 14 point
13:50underdog i i'd have to look it up the last time that has happened but it's probably dates before
13:56dabble swinney got there so that's kind of the perception the program's in right now but they're you
14:02know they are you know some people think that they can they could sneak up and and maybe challenge for
14:08the conference title i don't think they're there i think joe i think they're in the second tier
14:13behind miami smu and louisville and then you just mix them in with a group of four or five teams
14:19with
14:20with pit and teams like that um you know the issue is at clemson the issue is for everywhere
14:27and this will be the same thing at miami once you get to a certain level you win a championship
14:33you win a national championship if you don't get back in the playoff then the season's a
14:40disappointment you know miami's been to the national title game now if they're not in the
14:44playoff every year whether it's fair or not it doesn't matter but people are going to say this is
14:49not a this is not a successful season and that's just that's just kind of you know you kind of
14:55what
14:55they talk about feeding the monster that's what you got to do and you know give davo credit he did
15:01what i don't think anybody could have done at clemson um and the challenge is to maintain that
15:06and yeah you're right he's finally dipped his toe in the portal but is it too little too late yeah
