00:00where do you want to start and what is your kind of thoughts on everything that you've seen
00:05transpire? Well, let's start with Dabo. And, you know, Dabo has taken a lot of criticism over the
00:10years for not using the portal and, you know, those kinds of things that building his program
00:15from within his outspoken opinions, which I've always said about Dabo, whether you love him or
00:19hate him, he, he says what he sticks to his convictions. So when he aired out the text and
00:27the things going on to his linebacker, I didn't have a problem with it because it is tampering
00:33by the letter. There's that honor among coaches that, Hey, you know, you're not supposed to do
00:40that. I mean, because they, they want to tamper themselves. It feels a little bit like free agency
00:46tampering in the NFL or the MLB, which is punishable. You lose draft picks. So I think
00:51here's my take on it. I don't think I have no problem with Dabo doing it. And I think coaches
00:56they get caught. Kirk Ferentz got caught a couple of years ago. It was minor, but he served a one
01:01game suspension. Maybe the deterrent is you give a coach that gets caught like this, a two to three
01:07game suspension. Then I think it stops. It's it. Do you think the NCAA is ever going to step in and
01:12enforce those punishments? Cause like, if I'm a coach right now and there's nothing that's going to
01:17make me not go out and get whatever player I want, I'm just going to keep on doing it. So like
01:21there's rules in place. So why isn't the NCAA really enforcing them right now with these
01:25situations? Yeah. And that's one they're going to have to do. And again, if we're going to go down
01:29a path where this feels like the NFL or the major, I always draw the comparison. I think college
01:34football is most comparable to the MLB where certain schools have more resources, you know,
01:40more things to work with than those quote unquote, like mid mark, mid major mid middle market type
01:46franchises. Um, you know, and so when the Reds or Cleveland has success, they're always fighting an
01:52uphill battle against the Yankees, the Red Sox, the dot, the Dodgers. Oh my gosh, look at their
01:57lineup. Um, I don't even want to look at their lineup, but, uh, um, you know, in college football,
02:02we've, we've got to find ways to do this where, like I said, it's punishable that way. And some
02:07have a problem with Dabo airing that out in public actually don't because he's calling out that he has
02:12a player under contract or whatever you want to call it on his roster. That's getting messages from
02:17another coach. And, you know, I'm sure this has gone on in the past, especially in recruiting. Um,
02:24but if we're going to play this more like the NFL, then, then the roster management and how we protect
02:29players has to be the same. I guess to me, Dabo seemed like Bill, the only guy that could do that
02:33because no other coaches said this. And Dabo said, anybody else that's got a problem with it,
02:38throw it out there, put names on it, talk about it. And I think the reason that nobody has really
02:43is because if you look at it, most of the guys are doing it themselves. Well, we know Dabo was
02:47never really been in the portal. It seemed like as much as people may lament some of his
02:52preachiness, I think he was probably the only one that could get on that soapbox and be able to stand
02:57there and talk about the ill of the portal because he was never even utilizing it before. So there was
03:02no tampering at all that could have been going on. Right. And you know, the, the holier than thou
03:07approach that some people take with Dabo, like he acts like he's holier than thou, but in this case,
03:13he's right now, will other coaches pay attention to this? Will it happen in other places? I don't
03:19know. But again, I just think once you have the player on your roster that we don't see this in
03:25the NFL, when there's tampering in the NFL, when you try to get a free agent to go to your place,
03:30that's under contract with say the Rams or the Seahawks or whoever, they lose draft picks,
03:35they get fines. And, and I think until there is that punishment and still brought it up, what it,
03:39how does the NCAA punish that? It, it, it spills into the Mensa situation for me, which,
03:45you know, here you have a quarterback who, again, the baseball comparison, he is on the Duke roster.
03:52They're in the same conference, comes out of the portal. When he goes into the portal,
03:57I think we, the three of us knew collectively, okay, somebody has been talking to him. Right.
04:01And then he'll end up at Miami. And then you have a buyout situation where you're paying a buyout and
04:07those kinds of things. I never thought we'd be talking about these things in college football,
04:10but here we are.
