00:14well hello there folks and a very warm welcome back to what's for tea it's lovely to see you
00:20all again and i hope that i find you all very well and you'd a really great christmas you know
00:26we've got a couple of days to go then we'll be a new year or a few days to go
00:30then we'll be a new
00:31year and it'll all be over again for another year and all the healthy eating starts and new year new
00:36me and all that and i'm here for it i love this time of year but let me show you
00:40what we had this
00:41week starting all the way back on monday through till today which is sunday and i feel like i
00:47haven't done one of these videos in about two weeks it's just been a really long week but it has
00:52just
00:52been a week so on monday as you can see we had roast chicken it's been a fairly simple week
00:59you
00:59know really simple meals apart from christmas day we went out for something to eat and yesterday
01:04we caught up with friends and we're out for a meal as well but on monday we had roast chicken
01:10so i've
01:11got some brussel sprouts and carrots as well that's just a roast chicken breast some sage and onion
01:17stuffing on the side and for a wee change from my usual roast potatoes we just had potato croquettes
01:24and then some gravy over the top as well really easy to do as usual i mean you'll never see
01:30anything
01:30overly fancy on my channel for our meals of the week we do like really simple but tasty
01:36and easy to make meals so that was monday and then moving on to tuesday you will have seen this
01:43one
01:43already if you watch the video recipe that i posted the other day this was the tuna pasta bake and
01:49i
01:49will leave this in the corner if you haven't seen it yet just click in the corner there and you
01:54will
01:54find the recipe this was lovely we love tuna pasta bake anyway but this is just slightly different to
02:01the way i normally do my tuna pasta bake you know not using the seasoning sachet this one is done
02:07from
02:07scratch on it was just lovely so if you've ever been curious then i will highly recommend you give
02:13this one a go and this was it here just out of the oven like i said i will leave
02:18it in the corner there
02:19where that wee yellow finger is in case you want to go and make this for yourself and then moving
02:25on to
02:25wednesday we had corned beef and tatties i absolutely love corned beef and tatties mr watts for tea can take
02:33this or leave it he doesn't mind it but oh my goodness i love it i used to have this
02:38all the time
02:39when i was growing up you know when i was really young my mother would make this because it's cheap
02:43you know being honest it's cheap and it's easy to make and i love anything with mashed potato in it
02:49so
02:49yeah i really enjoy this so it's just mashed potato corned beef there's onions in there salt pepper butter
02:55oh it's just lovely i love it and then some baked beans at the side as well which i think
03:01goes really
03:02nice with it and then on christmas day we just went out for the last few years we just went
03:08out
03:08on christmas day because it's just me and mr watts for tea now you know we just prefer going out
03:14it's
03:14just a wee bit different it means i don't need to cook somebody else does it for you so this
03:19is an
03:19italian restaurant in the wee town just up from us it's the next town and this is a really popular
03:25place and it's you know it's busy at the best of times but it was really really busy on christmas
03:31day
03:32they were actually fully booked but they did manage to squeeze us in just because it was just
03:36the two of us so yeah they just stuck us in at the corner somewhere so we did manage to
03:41get a table
03:41so i had a wee glass of wine mr watts for tea just had a coke because he was driving
03:46and then i started
03:47off with the vienna toast with lovely creamy mushrooms i wanted something a wee bit lighter so i thought
03:53that was the best option from what they had mr watts for tea had the soup of the day which
03:59just
03:59happened to be tomato and basil and he had bread as well thoroughly enjoyed these wee mushrooms
04:05not something i would typically have as a starter but like i said i did want something a wee bit
04:10lighter
04:10and it was the best of the options available unless you like melon and i really don't like melon or
04:16i
04:16could have had melon and sorbet and then moving on to the main course and i just had traditional turkey
04:22this was okay i'm going to say the you know the presentation wasn't great but it tasted okay not
04:29the best turkey dinner i've ever had you know mr watts for tea had the chicken option he's not the
04:34biggest fan of turkey so it's sliced turkey there's stuffing parsnips carrots there's roast potatoes in
04:41there and a wee bit of mashed potato underneath some brussel sprouts and gravy and then for dessert
04:46mr watts for tea had the cheesecake which came with cream and ice cream and i decided to go for
04:53the
04:53traditional christmas pudding with brandy sauce which i really wasn't keen on i don't know why
04:59i went for this because i am not the biggest fan of christmas pudding i'd never tried brandy sauce
05:04before but i really wasn't keen on it it was just like a sort of alcohol-y type custard but
05:09yeah
05:09the coffee and the mince pie was lovely though and then moving on to boxing day we had steak pie
05:16a wee bit for tradition we usually have steak pie on boxing day and it's called boxing day apparently
05:22because back in the day it would be the day the servants had off you know the day after christmas
05:27and their employers would box up leftovers from you know christmas dinner and wee gifts and things put
05:34them in a box and give it to the servants for their day off so that is called boxing day
05:38and that's why
05:39it's still called boxing day so there you go so we had steak pie we had a few chips on
05:45the side
05:45with some sweet corn and peas as well this is a wee steak pie from the local butcher which was
05:51really really tasty and then moving on to yesterday we were out again we met up with a few friends
05:58who
05:58we haven't seen for ages and we went to a place called the fox and willow and again this is
06:03in the
06:04next town to us we'd never been here before but yet during lockdown and covid they'd created these pod
06:11or dome type things because obviously social distancing and you couldn't go inside they've got
06:16a beautiful big restaurant inside as well but these domes were so popular they just decided to keep
06:22them going and they've added more over the years as well and i thoroughly enjoyed sitting one of these
06:28wee domes if you're in this country and you remember the crystal maze you know the game show that's what
06:34it put me in mind of and i thought it was great fun so here's a quick look at the
06:39menu here really good
06:40menu actually lots of things on here i could have easily had but yeah i was going to go for
06:46fish and
06:47chips but i decided to try something different so i started off with cullen skink and so this is like
06:52a
06:53smoked haddock and potato soup and there's a warm bread roll at the side as well and this was lovely
06:59i was
06:59worried that it was going to be too much and i wasn't going to manage but there wasn't too much
07:03soup in there
07:04so that was just a nice wee starter i didn't show you what everybody else has got because again i
07:09just
07:09feel it's a wee bit weird i don't mind showing what i'm having obviously but yeah if mr what's for
07:14tea's there and it's just him and i then yeah i don't mind that but there's more you know their
07:19friends and things there then it's a bit strange but again i had the traditional roast turkey with all
07:25the trimming so you roast potato mashed potato parsnips carrots bristle sprouts and cranberry sauce
07:31and then i decided to see if i could squeeze something else in and i decided to have the black
07:37forest
07:37trifle which i didn't even manage half of so mr what's for tea had finished that and this is the
07:44domes
07:44here it looks very sort of tacky and distracting but let me tell you when you're in these it's so
07:50nice and so cozy and they've got a heater inside and they pump music in via a bluetooth speaker so
07:57yeah it's just a really nice experience you don't pay any extra to sit in the domes but you do
08:02have
08:02to book well in advance so yeah highly recommended if you're in the area to try the fox and willow
08:08if you haven't yet and then moving on to today i just made a beef stroganoff because i had some
08:14leftover beef in the freezer but what i did forget to get was mushrooms i didn't have enough mushrooms
08:21but it was still lovely i just didn't have it as mushroomy as i would normally make it so that's
08:26just some rice and then that lovely creamy beef stroganoff on the top with a wee bit of parsley
08:32that i had to use up and that just kind of livens it up a wee bit because it was
08:36looking a bit beige
08:37before mr what's for tea didn't fancy the rice so he went for these baby potatoes and green beans
08:43instead of the rice so that was everything that we had this week and i've also eaten my weight
08:50and chocolate as well so i think i've put on about half a stone and the gym's been closed as
08:55well so
08:56oh back at it in the new year so i will get that half stone off no doubt in the
09:01next few weeks but
09:02yeah i've enjoyed every single moment of it no regrets at all it's just that time of year you know
09:09you just can't count calories can you but thank you so much for watching and a huge thank you as
