00:00We like putting these cardboard boxes together to form buildings because it
00:03makes us look kaiju sized. I found this trendmaster's Mecha King Ghidorah figure
00:08while we were in Denver for like $35.
00:36Hey, what's up everyone? I am Lord Kaiju, the founder of Oxygen Destroyer, and this is the Kaiju-mobile.
00:46We are currently on tour with Drawn and Quartered. We're mostly touring around the country.
00:53We're from Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, and we're currently in Chicago.
00:59At that point in the tour, we're working our way back.
01:01Alright, we're gonna give you a little tour of our van, so yeah, let's hop inside.
01:06Here's the passenger seat, and this is our good friend Nick. He's currently filling in for our lead guitarist, Joey.
01:14Hey, nice to meet you. So yeah, I've been taking up a lot of driving. It's been split mostly between
01:19Braden and me,
01:21and Chris will take some of the day shifts. As far as like who, it's just like I guess whoever
01:27gets the driver's seat first.
01:28And then yeah, just kind of go until you're tired. If you're tired, someone's been already napping and fresh ready
01:35to go.
01:35So we haven't had to do too many overnight drives or anything, thankfully, but I would say probably the worst
01:42thus far was Raleigh to Brooklyn.
01:45We overnighted it, but it was so worth it to get some nice Williamsburg bagels in the morning.
01:50Yeah.
01:51As far as music goes, we usually don't listen to music. We like the silence. We like to take everything
01:58in, but yeah, I mean from time to time we listen to tunes.
02:02I've had Hellraiser by Motorhead stuck in my head for these last two weeks. We've also been listening to a
02:08lot of...
02:09We jammed out some Heart the other day, you know, getting caught up. I haven't listened to enough Heart as
02:15much as I love that band.
02:17But no, the silence, as weird as it sounds, yeah, we're blasting our ears every night at these shows.
02:22So it's really kind of nice to just give ourselves a chance to like relax the eardrums.
02:27Exactly, yeah.
02:28But yeah, it's kind of driver's choice or like, you know, if anyone has a request, cool, just pop it
02:33in, ready to go.
02:34We got this big ass monster right here for charging our phones.
02:40Yep.
02:40Comes in really handy. We've always got that right here. It's nice and convenient.
02:44And this little backup to herself battery pack too when someone has to jump back there and doesn't want to
02:52lose charge.
02:54Besides that...
02:55And we've also got this thing right here to clamp our phones on to when we need a GPS.
03:01You know, obviously we're going to a lot of areas that we haven't been to very much and having a
03:05GPS helps,
03:06but you can't just be on your phone the whole time while driving. So that thing is a huge help.
03:11Besides that, it's kind of random. Like, I don't know if someone's glasses. I'm not sure who these are.
03:17Random koozie. What is this? Montana. Oh, wow. We're going to play there in a couple of days.
03:21Yep.
03:22Fun. And, uh, I cannot explain any of this. It was sort of there when we rented the van.
03:29And you know what? It's fun.
03:31Yeah.
03:31I normally sit right here and there's lots of space back here.
03:36Plenty of space for us to put things under the seats. You know, I've got some of my belongings right
03:42there.
03:43I've got some stuff, you know, like some little baskets on these chairs where I can store things like my
03:50D&D Player's Handbook.
03:52It's a good thing we have all this space, too, because while we're on the road, we like to hit
03:56up comic stores and toy stores and museums.
03:59And sometimes you can find some really cool stuff. Like, for example, I found this Trend Masters Mecha King Ghidorah
04:05figure while we were in Denver for like $35.
04:09Also found this Trend Masters Gigan figure for like $35. And for what these are, those are really good prices.
04:16They're usually like $100 plus. So, yeah, really glad I was able to find those.
04:21And thank goodness there's plenty of room in this van to store all that stuff.
04:26As well as my guitar and my clothes and my D&D Player's Handbook, which I've been researching very much.
04:33As soon as I'm home from this tour, I'm going to be no-lifing D&D with my friends for
04:38a while.
04:38This van gets very humid.
04:42When the air conditioner is running, it starts getting super condensed up on the top and it'll actually rain from
04:49the plastic.
04:49But we've gone through a lot of really humid areas like Atlanta, Houston, Raleigh.
04:56And I've been in this van actually more than the Oxygen Destroyer guys.
05:01In November, I took out another van from Tacoma, Washington called Valdry.
05:06And I'd been in here before in some humid areas.
05:10And I got one of those massive dampered bags and hung it from here.
05:14And that thing filled up so fast in November.
05:19So this is the first one that we hung in here and it started filling up.
05:22I think we had about that much water the first night we hung it up.
05:25I told them to leave that hanging because I didn't want to change it out so you could see how
05:31much it actually works.
05:33I think everyone should be using it, especially the sweaty guys that get back in this van.
05:39But we do need probably two more hanging up.
05:42Definitely suggest that.
05:44Yeah, the music we're playing is very sweaty.
05:47Very sweaty indeed.
05:48Yeah, it's funny too.
05:50So yeah, like as she was saying, sometimes the AC when we have it on for too long, it'll start
05:55raining on us.
05:56Like it'll just get really damp and you'll see water drops like sliding along this thing.
06:00So it's like, it's kind of tough because sometimes when we're in that warm weather, you know, we want the
06:05AC on to keep us cool.
06:06But then when it starts raining, it's like, okay, let's, let's take the AC off for like five, ten minutes,
06:11deal with that heat for a bit.
06:13And then, yeah.
06:14And then, okay, repeat the process.
06:16So, but yeah, we've adapted to that.
06:19My name's Nicole.
06:20I'm Death Metal Mama.
06:21I'm the merch broad.
06:23And I'm the merch broad and tour manager for Oxygen Destroyer.
06:28And this time we're on the road with Drawn and Quartered.
06:32I've been in this van several times on different tours.
06:36I keep running the same one because I like the gas mileage, but I also like my little bench seat
06:42here, which I use this guy.
06:45This is Remo Evans, my red panda.
06:47He's my pillow and emotional support.
06:50And this is my sleeping bag, but I also use it as back support, like the lumbar.
06:56And I can get all snuggled up in here with all my gear hanging up like it's a boat.
07:02Pillow dude.
07:03I got Mothra, my girl.
07:06She keeps us safe.
07:07I got my snacks over here.
07:10It's pretty much empty right now.
07:13My dry shampoo for emergencies.
07:16And laptop charging stuff.
07:19I actually have an Atari under the seat right now.
07:23Not for emergencies.
07:25That's just my personal thing I picked up this morning.
07:28We've got beer hanging out down here, which we snagged from a green room.
07:34I don't actually drink beer, but some of the guys do.
07:37Put my headphones up here.
07:39Got my backpack hanging around.
07:41It's got my personal gear like toiletries.
07:45I gotta wash my face every day.
07:47Take off all makeup.
07:48It's also got my makeup in the same bag.
07:52I can hang up my purse.
07:53And then I do my bookkeeping back here.
07:55Because I manage all the funds for the bands.
07:59And have to keep track of every penny.
08:02But main office.
08:05Got my laptop and everything.
08:08And whatever I need for the shows in my gauntlet.
08:14But up here, we've got a top bunk.
08:17That no one ever actually uses to sleep in.
08:20At least not in this band.
08:23When I was out in November, our drummer would sleep up here.
08:26Even on the road while people were driving.
08:29It scared the crap out of me.
08:30Because I'd be sleeping down here.
08:32I'm like, please don't hit the brakes.
08:35Please don't fall on top of me.
08:38But it's mostly just storage for us.
08:41And it does have a lip right here.
08:44But stuff will start flying around.
08:47So we've got a camp cot that we put here to brace my duffel bag.
08:54To keep that shit from flying out of there.
08:58Got some other personal stuff.
08:59But also, the linens in here, I don't think have been changed in at least four years.
09:04I've told the guys, if you want to sleep in the bunks, please bring your own blanket.
09:09Because that's gross.
09:11One thing I do appreciate about this van is there's lots of space.
09:14So sometimes when we're on the road.
09:17And it's a really, really long drive.
09:19It's pretty easy to sleep in this thing.
09:22Sometimes I like to make some room here and take a nap.
09:25Especially when we're going on an eight hour drive or something.
09:28It really comes in handy.
09:30I actually try to get as much sleep as I possibly can when we're on the road.
09:33Because, you know, we're doing a lot of stuff.
09:35And it's non-stop.
09:36And there's not much time for rest.
09:38So the way I see it, it's like get every minute of rest you possibly can whenever you can.
09:43You know?
09:43When I'm not sleeping and when I'm not driving, which I'll admit I don't do a lot of the driving.
09:48I try to make myself useful in other ways.
09:51Like, I'm usually the one who has to deal with all the, you know, the email bullshit and the show
09:57advancements.
09:58So I usually try to get on top of that stuff.
10:01And another thing is I also like to get in some songwriting time.
10:06And I think I'm the only person who doesn't store my guitar in the back.
10:10I even have a soft case too.
10:12Which, you know, throwing a soft case in the back with all that stuff wouldn't be very safe.
10:17So I usually try to, you know, use it as a time to get some songwriting done as well.
10:22I have a Schecter Diamond Series.
10:28It's kind of funny.
10:29I've met a lot of people who give Schecter shit.
10:31You know?
10:32Like, especially in the extreme metal scene.
10:35But I really like Schecter a lot.
10:37I've been using Schecter for a long time and I really like these guitars.
10:40And I love jamming it when I'm on the road and I'm trying to get some, you know, some songwriting
10:44done for our next release.
10:46Another way I like to pass time when I don't have to do anything responsible is I like reading comics.
10:52I recently scored this, uh, Spider-Man issue.
10:56It's part four of Craven's Last Hunt, which is like the best Spider-Man story of all time.
11:02I found this at that Denver place I mentioned where I found those toys.
11:06So, yeah, you know, that's another great way to pass time is reading.
11:10Whether it be books or comic books and whatnot.
11:13But, yeah, you know, we're on the road so much I figure it's best to keep busy, get rest, make
11:20time for hobbies,
11:21and make time for responsibilities as well, best you can.
11:25Back here we also have a legitimate bed set up.
11:29And, uh, yeah, sometimes I, I like to use it sometimes, but also my fat ass has trouble squeezing past
11:36there.
11:36But I'm usually able to.
11:38And it's worth it because once I'm back there it's super comfortable.
11:41Our drummer Chris really likes using it a lot too.
11:44It's, uh, yeah, it's a nice addition.
11:47It's nice if you want to be away from people, kind of seclude yourself a bit, put your head back
11:52there.
11:52And it's kind of like rocking in a boat.
11:54You put on your headphones, sunglasses or whatever, and just get some alone time.
11:59Um, we leave people alone when they're in the bunk.
12:03It's probably the most relaxing spot back there, even with the dirty linens.
12:06It's like, if I need a nap after, like, six hours of driving, just lay down and, you know, read
12:11some Kindle and that's that.
12:14Yep, this is where we store all the gear, all the merchandise.
12:19Nice.
12:20Also we've got these cardboard buildings that we use on stage.
12:23Our whole band is themed around giant monster movies like Godzilla, Kong and Gamera.
12:29So we like putting these cardboard boxes together to form buildings because it makes us look kaiju sized on stage.
12:35And luckily they, you know, they fold together really well so it's easy to fit them in here with all
12:40the other major stuff, you know.
12:42But outside of that, like, I kind of acquired the Tetris master position with this.
12:49So it's like, you know, first day figuring out the pack and yeah.
12:54Cause I would say defacto, uh, production manager.
12:59So yeah, we've got all the gear in here.
13:01We've got, you know, our guitar cabs, Tetris in the back, the drums with, uh, with our guitars.
13:07We've been to some places where I couldn't set up merch inside the venue.
13:12So Cheyenne, Wyoming, RIP Thrash Zone.
13:16But we were at Ernie November with WormRaw and NoMoss and there was nowhere for me to set up shop.
13:23So I was in the back alley with the doors open.
13:26I had my grid racks spread against the back wall and I could hang shirts up there.
13:33I had skateboards set up, my tote boxes were like my countertop in front.
13:39And I just stood up in here with all my lights, LED powered lights just shining.
13:43And I was like, hey, come on, give me your money.
13:46And actually ended up selling, uh, the most skateboards in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
13:51We did a whole tour.
13:52And, oh, uh, Amos Rifkin, their booking agent, uh, he was with Heavy Talent and currently with Essential Live Music.
14:02Um, he was playing with Deceased.
14:06The tours ended up crossing paths actually on accident.
14:09So we have this really fun photo with me up top with all the lights and the Oxygen Destroyer guys
14:15and Amos Rifkin in front.
14:17And they're all like holding the skateboards in front. It was really fun.
14:20Once again, I'm Lord Kaiju.
14:23We are Oxygen Destroyer Kaiju Conjuring Death Thrash.
14:27If, uh, you wanna check us out, we're on Bandcamp, Spotify, all that stuff.
14:33Uh, some of our main influences are Sepultura, Vader, uh, Demolition Hammer.
14:40And the whole idea is that we're trying to sound as chaotic and destructive as Godzilla, Kong, Gamera, and just
14:47giant monsters in general.
14:48You know, like when you listen to us, it sounds like a Kaiju invasion.
14:51So, we're very happy to have done this. It's an honor.
14:54Thank you so much for watching.
15:27So, let's-
15:28Tles.
15:28I'll be right back.
15:29I'm sorry!
15:29You
