00:00I was wondering, I was wondering what he, he goes down to that podcasting studio and
00:04wondering what the hell he was doing down there.
00:05Yes, that's what he does, it's got to be.
00:07Soundproof.
00:09The drive is live, sucker.
00:13The drive is live.
00:16Ice, ice, ice, ice.
00:18Welcome in, welcome in, the drive is live.
00:21As you are with us, you can be with us on YouTube, you can be with us on Twitch, you
00:26can be with us on the text line, phones, everything, we appreciate you jumping in.
00:31A lot going on today, I was out there, I made some hot dogs and burgers with Cal McNair earlier
00:39today, fifth year in a row.
00:41How'd that go, man?
00:42I mean, look, I typically like to man the grill a bit and still a little bit of Cal's, one
00:49of Cal's sides from some social media influencers, but how did your time out there go, Bob?
00:55Fifth year.
00:56Another, shout out to Hannah and Joanna, got me a towel right off the bat, first one
01:02to get the towel to, snuck it up on me, put it right on the back of my neck, that
01:06came
01:06through big time, came through big time, man, we made some hot dogs, myself, Sean Pendergast,
01:12Sarge, it was good times, good times with Cal, they're flipping them burgers and dogs.
01:18Did you get us a weekly hit from the owner, did you get Cal, big Cal, pinky rang on the
01:23list
01:24for tea?
01:24No, I didn't, I did not.
01:26Ain't no static here.
01:28Larry and Stafford said he'd come on every week, though.
01:31Oh, I bet he would, baby.
01:32He offered, he offered his weekly, just in case not.
01:35Hold on, Joe!
01:36It's a good time out there tonight.
01:38Good time out of the night.
01:40I wish Tyler would have been there in the stands for the Raiders, for the Raiders player who
01:45turned to the stands and double bird him.
01:48Man, I was planning on being out there today.
01:50I even wore my shorts and everything so I wouldn't sweat, but then I decided to make some cuts.
01:54I think it was, I think it was number five.
01:56I really believe for the Raiders, number five, I think Eric, what's that, what's that, Eric
02:02Stokes, I think old Eric Stokes turned around and double birded.
02:05I mean, what could they have possibly said to Stokes to get him double birded up?
02:09Wow.
02:11Well done.
02:12Well done, Texans Nation.
02:14Yeah, it's going to be a heated, heated Thursday preseason game.
02:18And with that being said, you've got a chance to win some tickets a little bit later on in
02:22the five o'clock hour here on the drive on 95.7 The Fan.
02:26Your chance to win some tickets to that preseason game coming up a little bit later.
02:31I'm so excited!
02:33I know you are.
02:34And you should be.
02:36And you should be.
02:36All right, here is, let's get to D'Amico here, Clint, and he spoke about his thoughts
02:43about the joint practice they had with the Raiders.
02:46A really great opportunity as we've been looking forward to the joint practice versus the Raiders.
02:51As being out here today, it was a really good day.
02:54Both sides are really competitive football, physical football, both sides making plays.
02:58So a lot of positives from us on both sides.
03:02Also a lot to learn, a lot to clean up as well.
03:04We got out of joint practice right now exactly what we wanted.
03:08Really good competitive work.
03:09Different schemes to go against different players.
03:12And it was really great work.
03:13So proud of the guys for today.
03:15All right.
03:17And I think I would say, Clint, I agree with most of what he had to say.
03:24And based off what we talked about yesterday, Clint, in terms of, hey, what should the offense look like
03:33after a performance against this type of defense, the Raiders defense?
03:38And I would say what I said yesterday was they should clearly get the better of the other one, right?
03:46The offense of the Texans needs to be able to have good success against defenses like the Raiders, right?
03:55They may not have great days against, you know, the Seahawks or teams like themselves or the Ravens
04:03if they get better at the Chargers.
04:05But against teams like the Raiders, they should have some success.
04:08And I'm not going to ask them to dominate.
04:10And I would say, Clint, what I saw today was the Texans' offense get the better of the Raiders.
04:16They ran the ball well, especially in the red zone.
04:19Tough running.
04:21Made some plays.
04:22Minimal mistakes.
04:23I'd say the biggest issue probably was the pass protection.
04:26But CJ seemed to be pretty comfortable and not making any major mistakes.
04:33He threw the one pick.
04:34That's what led to the double birds by Stokes to the crowd.
04:37He threw the one pick.
04:40But really, I would say the offense had the performance that they needed to have today.
04:45Well, yeah, look, I think – and this is all – no shade, no joking.
04:50I mean, for CJ Stroud to go out there in a situation where the competition's elevated,
04:56where there's more eyeballs on the quarterback, where it's going to be talked about nationally,
05:01and for him to go out there, command the line of scrimmage, not turn the ball over,
05:05and have some level of success, although it's not fair to view it through that lens,
05:10Joe, I think it's a huge positive in the right direction.
05:13You left a joint practice the first of the season.
05:17You left a joint practice with a really, really good taste in your mouth.
05:20I've been talking since the last preseason game on Thursday about how important,
05:25how real it is that whether it be a heated practice, whether it be a joint practice,
05:29whether it be a preseason game or a real game, really everybody,
05:33but particularly for the quarterback.
05:35When you leave that practice, it is – I mean, it's unbelievably valuable for that player
05:42to have had success and feel like he had a big day.
05:46And it sounds like C.J. Stroud – C.J. Stroud, for the most part,
05:50I'm not worried about a late interception at all.
05:52I mean, again, it was one of those kind of interceptions where –
05:55Yeah, we'll route to the running back to Woody Marks.
05:59Yeah, I mean, you don't throw it every single day.
06:01It's not one of those, like, flip it, just bonehead mistakes.
06:04It was, hey, the defense made a play.
06:06You were throwing the ball to a running back.
06:07Not a major – even if it were a miss, not a major ordeal,
06:11nothing to be concerned about.
06:12For C.J. Stroud to go out there,
06:14number one most important thing for the Texans,
06:15for C.J. Stroud to go out there and come out on the backside of a joint practice,
06:20having maybe – I want to say gained because he's always had confidence,
06:23but maybe recovered a little bit of that confidence
06:27and a little bit of that swag that he had early on.
06:32That's big-time important for this football team.
06:34Just to start with the quarterback, before we dig into the other pieces,
06:38the other A topics, if you will, the offensive line, the injury,
06:43all that kind of stuff, C.J. Stroud right now is somewhere watching film
06:47and is pretty excited about what he put on that tape.
06:51No, and he should feel good.
06:54Now, again, I do not want to over-the-top this thing,
06:59but, Clint, as you have talked about, and we've talked about,
07:02this is probably – now, I hate it, but this is probably what they love.
07:06There was nothing spectacular, right?
07:09There wasn't any – the wheel route they tried was going to be attempted to big play.
07:13There was some 15-yard gains, I'd say, throws to Nico, a couple across the middle.
07:20But nothing great, no huge plays in this.
07:24But, as you said, running the offense and getting the ball to where it should go
07:30and getting the ball to the people it needed to get to
07:32and making quick decisions, I think, to me, he did everything
07:37that Nick Cayley would want for his quarterback to do.
07:43Well, look, I mean, if we're talking – I said this before,
07:46and most people get offended when I say it, or at least defensive.
07:49This is probably the easiest offense in football to defend
07:53for multiple reasons.
07:55But there's – a lot of offenses come at you, and it is –
08:00everything is set up to either get their best player of the football
08:04as many times as they possibly can, or to apply pressure and get vertical
08:09and take shots and take risks and to apply pressure to a defense, right?
08:14They're wired to do those things, create mismatches, get the ball down the field,
08:18get the explosive plays.
08:19To your point, Ron, I think this is what you were saying.
08:21And this offense is about let's go out, let's stay ahead of the chains,
08:26let's be clean, let's be efficient, don't turn the football over,
08:30let's score points when we get in the red zone.
08:32And if you can accomplish that, then I think you're probably going to get
08:37what, a little skull and crossbones?
08:39I guess this would be a bullhorns maybe for the back of your helmet.
08:43Remember those days, by the way?
08:44Oh, yeah.
08:45Oh, yeah.
08:45Man, there was nothing more proud than walking around with that helmet
08:48full of helmet stick, skull and crossbones.
08:50Ours were cats, like little cats because we were the wild cats.
08:56They were like the power cat.
08:58That was our –
09:00I need you to find a picture and show me.
09:03K-State Wildcats.
09:05You're a K-State – you know, they're the power cat.
09:08We got little ones.
09:10We got little ones that you could build up.
09:11Those are clean now.
09:12Not like the marijuana leaves that Ohio State has.
09:16Oh, yeah, the Buckeyes?
09:17Yeah, yeah.
09:18They've been smoking weed over there for a long time, Figgy.
09:20A long time.
09:22All right, can I get to a little good, bad, and a horny – football horny.
09:27Football horny.
09:28Can I get to a little good, bad, and a football horny on what I saw today?
09:30Oh, right out the gate, huh?
09:32Yeah, let's get it right out of the gate.
09:33All right.
09:34Well, hell, come on.
09:34The good for me, Clint, and I'm – listen, you know I can tend to get myself excited.
09:40I'll answer it before some of you did.
09:42Yes, I let David Johnson get to me.
09:45Okay?
09:46First year in the building, I did.
09:48Shut up, Aaron.
09:49I let you – if you'd have been out there in that COVID practice where they only allowed 11 of
09:54us
09:55and we all had to be 20 feet from each other, and you saw David Johnson turn it up like
10:00he did,
10:01catch the ball.
10:02I mind you, go watch the first three quarters, maybe not the fourth,
10:05but the first three quarters of that first game of the season against the Chiefs,
10:09I thought that David Johnson would actually be something.
10:12He wasn't.
10:13Hold on.
10:13All right, I've had some misses, and I maybe get excited a little bit.
10:17Hey, man, that Woody Marks, man.
10:20Today was the day, huh?
10:22Hey, that Woody Marks, boy.
10:23And I walked over to Seth, and I said, can he be the T-Mu version of Darren Sproles?
10:30Like getting the ball to him in a bunch of different ways.
10:33He caught a touchdown pass from CJ today.
10:36He ran a tough – and this is a legit one.
10:39He was tackled and got the ball over the goal line.
10:42Ran a touchdown in the goal.
10:44He caught a punt, and probably if you were out there,
10:47had the play of the day where he just trucked a cat.
10:50Number 34 for the Raiders.
10:51Might as well just took his stuff and gone on home.
10:53He just got ran the hell over by Woody Marks.
10:56So I am excited, really excited about Woody Marks
11:00and what he potentially could be, Clint.
11:02Ron, I hope – I hope – everything you've described off air
11:06and then I heard it just for the second time right there on air,
11:09that is the Woody Marks that I personally think is the best version of Woody Marks.
11:16And as I've said many times, I think it's the best version of the Texans running back room.
11:21But when Woody Marks can be the – remember yesterday when D'Amico was talking about Jalen Knoll?
11:28Yes.
11:29And he said, you know, we've got to get him touches in multiple ways
11:32and, you know, carve out a little package.
11:37I just think that it's great he can do the other things, no doubt about it.
11:40Not minimizing that at all, right?
11:43But, boy, it is just – for whatever reason,
11:45this could move into the horny category real quick for me if I saw it.
11:50It almost was.
11:51There was something else that took it, though.
11:52The bad.
11:53Guys, Wyatt Teller struggling.
11:56Wyatt Teller – and we'll get to, I think, what maybe the story of the day was.
12:01But Wyatt Teller, he just got his ass kicked on multiple occasions.
12:06He – you know, they had the fake officials there.
12:08I guess they're real.
12:09But he was getting held.
12:11He was getting called for holds throughout,
12:13and he was not getting called for holds against ones.
12:17So the Wyatt Teller situation,
12:19I know they brought him in for a veteran situation.
12:22and
