00:01All right, Clint, let the people know, what is it that you feel as we are getting closer
00:05and closer to training camp starting, about a little over a week before training camp
00:12starts, where we get to put our eyes on these guys, and the season is in full effect and
00:18full go at that point, leading to week one against the Buffalo Bills.
00:23What is it that you feel like we haven't talked about nearly enough?
00:26Well, the beginning of the season, the first month of the season for the Texans, that's
00:31the beautiful thing, being a Texans fan, having a team that's a 10-12 win team that's expected
00:38to compete at a Super Bowl level, to be honest with you, and whether you agree with it or
00:43not, that's what we have, is we have a team that's got some very, very high expectations,
00:49and we've got a first month of the season, Ron, that I think is going to, it's going to
00:54be entertaining either way, but it's going to tell us a lot, most importantly, tell us
00:59a lot.
01:00You start looking at that first month of the season, and now when we say first month of
01:05the season, we're talking about four ballgames.
01:08We could go further than that if you want to, but we're talking about four ballgames, and
01:12it starts with Buffalo, right out of the gate.
01:16Buffalo, Cincinnati week two, at Indy, and then Dallas, and you look at who the Texans
01:22are right now, and just from a 30,000 foot view, we're going to get to watch what we believe
01:28and many believe is the best defense in football that got better signing Reed Blankenship of
01:34safety in the offseason, that got better drafting in the second round what many believe to have
01:40been the best interior defensive lineman in the draft this year, Caden McDonald, right?
01:45They, that defense is going to get to face, going to get to, huh?
01:52Josh Allen, right out of the gate with Joe Brady, new head coach, kept his offensive coordinator,
01:57went from offensive coordinator to head coach, going to be a more offensive-centric organization
02:01now.
02:03What does that look like?
02:04Best quarterback in football, many believe, right there.
02:06Joe Brady, when you, I mean, Joe Burrow with Cincinnati, which by the way, I mean, look,
02:17Zach Taylor, their offense has been unbelievable.
02:20I mean, whether Burrow was there or not, I went back and watched that damn, watching that
02:24quarterback, that Netflix documentary, I forgot how good Joe Burrow was in that.
02:30Flacco lost some 39, 38 ballgames, 40, 40-point ballgames.
02:34I forgot how good Joe Flacco was in that offense.
02:36So clearly, Zach Taylor, the offensive amount he's doing, it seems like they got better
02:42on defense, but you got, you got our, our defense versus Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, not
02:49real sure what Indy's going to look like yet.
02:51Daniel Jones, I'm assuming is going to be back by then.
02:53That, that could be a challenge.
02:55We'll see which Daniel Jones shows up.
02:57And then you got Dak Prescott with that offense that they have with George picking on one side,
03:01CeeDee Lamb on the other, Ferguson in the middle and a running back that they really,
03:04really liked.
03:04They re-upped him this year.
03:06So if you just look at it from our strengths, our defenses is, you know, we believe is the
03:12best in the league.
03:12Many believe and everybody believes is the top two or three defense in the league versus
03:16those offensive first.
03:17We're going to find out.
03:18Is our defense really good enough to be the headliner of our organization and three out
03:28of the first four games is going to be against the best the league has to offer from a quarterback
03:33perspective?
03:34I mean, that, that is, that's the first month of the season, ladies and gentlemen.
03:38And then number two, you get to the QB matchups back to Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott.
03:44Who is CJ Stroud?
03:46Who, who is CJ Stroud?
03:48We talk a lot about, and the system matters, the play caller matters, the supporting cast
03:51matters, the O-line matters.
03:53And right now, by the way, by however metric you judge it, the Texans, even, even with most
04:00the way people are talking about Daniel Jones, the Texans have a disadvantage at quarterback
04:04in all four of these games, the way that people have discussed him and his peers during the
04:11off season.
04:11Yeah.
04:11And so he, we're going to find out that the two biggest pieces of this, of this organization,
04:15the defense and CJ, we're going to find out literally three of the first four games.
04:21Again, not discrediting Indianapolis at all.
04:24I don't, I just don't know exactly what that's going to look like with Daniel Jones coming
04:27back from an Achilles injury, uh, needing to be mobile.
04:30The best version of him is he's, he's, he's, they use his legs a little bit.
04:34So I don't know what that's going to look like, but them other three, we got a pretty
04:36damn good idea of what it's going to look like.
04:38And more than likely they're going to be healthy.
04:40And the QB matchups are going to be a big time with CJ Stratton.
04:45By the way, we're catching, I believe all three, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Dak Prescott
04:50are all right here at NRG.
04:52So you're catching them at home and we as fans, we're going to get to see these quarterbacks
04:55versus our defense.
04:56Which is, by the way, which is more pressure too of like, I mean, you, you, you got to get
05:02these home games because I think Clint, a lot of potential by week stuff, standings conversation
05:14could be a big point coming out of that first month, especially those first two AFC games
05:20that teams that think they're going to be potentially contending for the playoffs.
05:24Those are, those are huge games that you could really get on top of if you win those games,
05:31especially those first two, or obviously if you lose them the other way, losing two
05:35home games at home to AFC teams.
05:37Right here in our own backyard, man.
05:39The third, third, third point here is kind of couch it however you want, but Nick Cayley
05:45and CJ Stratton versus, and they're going to be monster matchups.
05:49And I don't care.
05:50I don't give a damn what time they're played.
05:51They're going to be monster matchups that they're given week in the NFL Texans, but bills,
05:55Texans, Bengals, Texans, Cowboys, and help that matter, even that it's a division opponent.
06:02I mean, those are going to be monster matchups that, that, that, that given week and CJ and
06:08Nick Cayley, however you want to couch it versus defenses that they've either seen before multiple
06:14times or were sus, Dallas and Cincy's defense, I don't know exactly where Cincy's ended up
06:19last year, but Dallas and Cincy's defense, I mean, they were pissy poor y'all.
06:25I mean, I don't know.
06:25I don't, I don't have the rankings in front of them.
06:27They were pissy poor.
06:28If CJ and Nick Cayley can't go out there, I don't give a damn what system they're running.
06:32If they can't go out there against those two defense.
06:34Now I know both of them have had, they've been major overhauls.
06:37I get it.
06:38And we'll see after week one, what those, what those defenses look like.
06:41But, but again, the 30,000 foot view of just looking down the pike and going, Hey, you're,
06:46you're going to get to see what Nick Cayley's made of versus a rebuilt Dallas defense with
06:51a young coordinator.
06:52I don't even know if that kid's ever, if that guy's a kid, I don't know if that guy's ever
06:55been a defensive coordinator.
06:56I don't know if he's called plays before you Cincinnati.
06:58I don't even know who their defense coordinator is, but they rebuilt their front.
07:01We'll see what they are.
07:02I don't know what Buffalo's defense is going to look like without Sean McDermott, their defensive
07:06minded head coach that they, they parted ways with.
07:09And so there should be in these matchups, I don't believe the Texas is going to be staring
07:13down the barrel of, Oh my God, we got a defense like the tech.
07:16We're staring at one of the best defenses in football.
07:19They're going to have opportunities and they're going to need to take full advantage of those
07:23opportunities, given who, who the, the, the offenses of the opponent, Ron.
07:26So that first month of the season for the Texans is an absolute monster month.
07:31And it's going to be from an entertainment perspective where, you know, just a fan's perspective,
07:36getting them at home, the quarterback play.
07:39Our defense, and you look up in that first month in, remember last year, we got off to
07:43a slow start, had to win nine or 10 straight to, to write the ship there.
07:47Do the Texans dig another hole or do they come out on the back end of that month and, and
07:51look like world beaters and all of a sudden the momentum is ours.
07:55And we are looking like we can get 12 or 13 or 14 games and be an AFC one seed
08:00kind of deal
08:00and get a buy what, what that first month I think is going to tell us as much as any
08:05first
08:05month of the season ever has who the Texans are this year.
08:08There's a, there is, there is a big opportunity for the Texans coming out.
08:12Oh, huge, huge opportunity with those, those, those first four games, three of them being
08:19AFC games, three or two of them, at least being against opponents that you feel like
08:25are on your level or, or if not better.
08:27Now, some of you may disagree, whatever the bangles and the, and the bills are, are either
08:33to me, probably on your tier or above it with the, with maybe the bills or some people would
08:38say that you got two home games against that.
08:42You obviously with the Colts too, that you could get out of you're out of there three and
08:45Oh, four, three and one, four and Oh.
08:48Like that's a, that is, as you said, a big step towards something they've never really
08:54had.
08:55And that is the first or second seed.
08:57They seem to always, Tyler, you could tell me if I'm wrong through the, through the years
09:02because they've never made it past the divisional round.
09:04They seem to always have to play that damn game somewhere else and somewhere cold and somewhere
09:10like they, they seem to always have to play that because they're not a one or a two seed
09:14that this could put them in that, in that space.
09:17And as you said, the confidence from starting off that with those quarterbacks and those
09:23offenses.
09:24I mean, it, cause I mean, you looking at the Titans behind that, you looking at the Jags
09:28behind that boy, they, they, they'd have a chance to really make a run.
09:32And by the way, I did, I got them going three and one out of that.
09:35You got them three and one.
09:36I got them two and two.
09:37The initial, the initial one there.
09:39Let me get through some training camp, see what I see a little bit more.
09:42When I first saw the schedule, I had them going three and one out of that.
09:46Yeah.
09:46I had them losing to Buffalo.
09:48I got them beating Buffalo.
09:51I got them beating Buffalo and Indy Lose into the, the best two offenses, the more high
09:56flying offenses in Cincy and Dallas.
10:00Yeah.
10:01That Josh Allen for a third time.
10:03I don't.
