00:10More than a week after the earthquake that struck Colombia in August 10, residents stepped up
00:15recovery efforts and announced a lack of concrete state actions in the wake of the tragedy.
00:23In Bolivia, heavy freight transport unions have declared a state of national emergency
00:28following fuel charges considering President Rodrigo Paz's administration responsible
00:32for the lack of effective solutions for the sector and the country.
00:40Iran's top negotiator Mohamed Bagheer-Galibaf affirmed on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz
00:46will not be opened until the United States meets Tehran demands, including lifting its
00:50naval blockade on oil sanctions.
00:57Hello, welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:02We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:22One week after the earthquake in Colombia, our certainty is growing among affected people
01:27due to the government's lack of response. In Valle del Cauca, communities are demanding concrete measures
01:32to address the ongoing emergency. Our correspondent Milton Ganau has more information.
01:40The damage to homes, some of which were completely destroyed and others of which are on the verge of
01:45collapse, has created an uncertain situation one week after the tragedy. For residents of Seville,
01:51a municipality in Northern Valle del Cauca department, the state's response has made it clear
01:57that they will have to fight to recover what they built over many years.
02:03They told us that there is no money available at the moment and that we have to wait for aid
02:08from
02:08Bogotá to be distributed.
02:12Parisa managed to save her own life and the lives of her family members. In contrast to the limited
02:17response of the Colombian state regarding the future of her loved ones, her friends showed solidarity by
02:23providing them with a place to spend the night. So far, I haven't seen anything. They say engineers
02:30are coming, but we don't know if they're going to rebuild our houses or relocate us. I don't know yet.
02:35I don't know what will happen to our home.
02:39For some analysts, the earthquake that hit Colombia made two things very clear.
02:44First, amid the tragedy, the immense solidarity of citizens under the slogan,
02:48people for the people resulted in the most massive and timely response. Second,
02:53the incoming government's slowness, limited administrative experience,
02:57and clear lack of support for the nation's relief agencies,
03:00which rely more on willpower than resources, became apparent.
03:04The national government and the state owe firefighters more than 340 billion pesos.
03:13It's time to support firefighters.
03:16We cannot continue to be at the mercy of mayors who decide whether or not to allocate resources.
03:21We are still in need. I must mention that Colombia's municipalities lack a public risk management
03:27policy. If they did, the community would already be trained and have taken measures to make their
03:33homes earthquake resistant, everything that calls for prevention.
03:40In recent hours, President Abelardo de la Espriella's visit to Buenaventura to hand out balls and t-shirts
03:47went viral on social media. Citizens have questioned this move due to the lack of immediate and substantive
03:53solutions to the emergency. Meanwhile, in Cali, restrictions on volunteers at rescue sites have been constant,
04:00as has the work of journalists and citizens searching for their families at various sites of the tragedy.
04:06At this time, I am unable to comment to the press. I am not authorized to speak with them.
04:11Why is there so much silence in response to the demands?
04:15There is no silence. There is no silence.
04:17In Sevilla, Valle del Cauca, con la Cámara de Alexander Quiñones, Milton Henao, Telesur.
04:26In Colombia, in response to the emergency caused by the earthquake, residents of Cali send donations to those affected.
04:32Citizens, volunteers and foundations are organizing charity events to collect and source supplies until late at night
04:39and send them to those affected by the disaster. These days, the community is prioritizing non-perishable food,
04:45drinking water, blankets, mats, tents and personal hygiene kits to ensure that aid reaches the affected areas safely.
04:52Authorities and community leaders recommend delivering donations only to the authorized and official
04:57collection centers of the Colombian Red Cross, the City of Cali and the Cali Food Bank.
05:21As Venezuela continues the road to recovery after the double earthquake of June 24,
05:26the acting president, Eze Rodriguez, reported a new perceivable quake recorded early on Tuesday.
05:32Via Herc Telegram channel, the president wrote,
05:34I wish to report that approximately 23 minutes ago, a felt earthquake was recorded with its epicenter in La Guaira
05:41and a magnitude greater than four.
05:43Our protection system is activated and is conducting the necessary monitoring and follow-up.
05:48As of now, we have no reports of damage of any kind. We remain vigilant and are working to ensure
05:54everyone's safety.
06:14On Tuesday morning, the Spanish province of Granada recorded a new 4.8 earthquake on the Richter scale at 10
06:21.37 a.m.
06:22with its epicenter northwest of Cujar and deep at a depth of five kilometers.
06:27The regional government of Andalusia has confirmed that three people sustained the minor injuries as a result of the new
06:33earthquake.
06:34This cosmic event is one of the strongest tremors recorded so far in the series of quakes affecting the province
06:40since August 14,
06:42the most significant of which was the 4.8 magnitude earthquake recorded on the 15th.
06:47The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks. The strongest one, according to preliminary estimates, occurred at 11.34 a.m.
06:55with a magnitude of 4.2 with its epicenter in Alendin. Subsequently, at 12.39 p.m., another aftershock of
07:02magnitude 4.2 occurred in the same town.
07:11And now we have a short break coming up. But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur
07:16English.
07:17There you will find news in different formats, news updates and much more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
07:46Welcome back from the South. In Bolivia, heavy freight transport unions have declared on Monday a state-definition emergency,
07:52following fuel charges, considering President Rodrigo Paz's administration responsible for the lack of effective solutions for the sector and the
08:00country.
08:00The transporters question the new price per litre applied to large consumers and warn that this increase will affect producers
08:08and could raise the cost of the basic food basket and the cost of living.
08:12They also condemn the long waiting time to fill up with fuel, criticizing the government's economic policies as measures that
08:19are impoverishing the country.
08:20The complaints join those of six federations from the Coshabamba Tropics who issued a call for unity among the country's
08:27various strategic sectors to organize and defend the plurinational state.
08:39It's not just us who are suffering, those of us who use gasoline in our small vehicles, but also the
08:45bus and truck sector is facing an even more difficult reality right now.
08:49Even families are falling apart because of this fuel crisis. Why? Because the head of the household can't even make
08:56it home.
08:57He has to sleep at the gas pumps for three or four days, and it's even worse if he travels
09:02to another department for three or four days.
09:04They don't know how to pay off their bank debts. As a result, families are falling apart.
09:09Some of our colleagues are even leaving the country to earn money to pay off their bank debts, while their
09:14wives and children are left behind here, which is another problem.
09:18There are even suicides occurring. There are people who are considering suicide because they can't pay off their debts, not
09:24being able to have a peaceful work environment where we can work well.
09:27Well, no so. All of this is a result of the very poor management by this government.
09:34In this scenario, leaders of six federations of the Cochabamba Tropics denounced a new economic setback due to the setting
09:40of new diesel prices
09:41and spoke out against Supreme Decree 5676 issued by the government of President Rodrigo Paz.
09:49In order to once again confront these policies of this right-wing government, which once again seeks only to divide
09:56us and once again wants to restructure our state's political constitution,
10:00we, the social organizations, will defend the state's political constitution because it represents the social achievements of the Bolivian people
10:08and, of course, of the social organizations.
10:11We will also defend our strategic companies. The sole intention of this government amidst this economic crisis that is affecting
10:19us day by day is to bankrupt our companies, of course, with the goal of privatizing them.
10:26During a visit to Havana, a delegation from the Russian Civic Chamber donated humanitarian aid to Cuba to support the
10:33country's population.
10:34According to the Russian Civic Chamber, the delegation from Russia donated food, streets, flat lights, USB drives and first aid
10:43kits to the Cuban people who are suffering from an energy crisis caused by Washington's actions.
10:48The donation ceremony took place during a meeting with the leadership of the Cuban Institute of Friendship Among People as
10:55part of the events commemorating the centennial of Fidel Castro.
10:59The Russian Civic Chamber delegation emphasized that Russia stands in solidarity with Cuba and will continue to support it in
11:07all international forums in which Russia's NGOs participate.
11:11Noemi Rabasa, first vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship Among People, expressed her gratitude to Russia for its
11:19assistance at a time when Cubans lacked basic necessities such as medicine, fuel and food.
11:33The popularity of United States President Donald Trump has hit its lowest point yet driven by growing public concern over
11:41the ongoing conflict with Iran and raising energy costs at home.
11:44According to a new Reuters Ipsos poll, President Trump's approval rating fell to 33% with 64% disapproving.
11:53Escalating military action in Iran has disrupted global oil supplies, leaving 80% of US citizens, including 87% of
12:01Democrats and 71% of Republicans.
12:04Convinced the conflict will drag on long term, only 16% expect a swift conclusion.
12:10While the president maintains that higher gas prices are a necessary cause to stop nuclear proliferation, public support is thin.
12:18Only one in five United States citizens and just 50% of Republicans believe the war has been worth the
12:24price.
12:24With November midterm elections approaching widespread economic strain and warfare,
12:30have congressional Republicans deeply concerned about defending their slim majorities.
12:42And also in the United States on Monday, protesters gathered outside the Laney Hall Immigration Detention Center in Newark, New
12:50Jersey,
12:50demanding its closure following the death of Guatemalan migrant José Efraín Chajón Razón.
12:56Footage shows demonstrators holding a vigil outside the heavily fenced facility displaying photographs of people who have died after being
13:03detained there,
13:04marking the third death in the center since it reopened in May 2025.
13:09Detainees and campaigners have also denounced inadequate medical care, poor food and unsanitary conditions at the facility.
13:17The Laney Hall is ruled by the private prison company GEO Group, who operates under a 15-year contract with
13:24the Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency, ICE.
13:26In this regard, New Jersey sued GEO Group in June, demanding a full inspection of the center.
13:38When I first learned that another person had passed away at the Laney, like I said, I felt pretty angry
13:47and then really sad, right?
13:50Like going through the stages of grief. And then I said, well, what's the best way that we can continue
13:57to honor them, right?
13:59And the only way that we can do that is by continuing in this fight, right?
14:05Like they will live on as long as we keep on fighting.
14:09I'm tired of having to keep coming up here because they killed somebody else. When is enough enough? When is
14:16they going to stop?

15:07Welcome back from the South.
15:08Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Bagayar-Ghalibaf is referring to say that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Thailand's
15:15demands are met by the United States.
15:19I want to state clearly that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the U.S. commitment stipulated
15:26in the Memorandum of Understanding,
15:27specifically the lifting of the naval blockade, the unfreezing of assets, the lifting of the oil embargo, the cessation of
15:36threats and military operations on all fronts, as well as the other clauses of the text, have been implemented.
15:44On Tuesday in Syria, eight Israeli air strikes targeted the runway of Abu al-Duhur military airport in the eastern
15:51Idlib countryside.
15:52Syrian authorities said the Israeli strikes caused material damage to the airport's infrastructure but resulted in no injuries.
15:59For its part, the Syrian foreign ministry condemned the Israeli attacks which is stated are a flagrant violation of Syria's
16:06sovereignty and territorial integrity and a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.
16:12Israeli occupation forces have previously carried out hundreds of strikes across Syria since the overthrow of the former government led
16:21by Bashar al-Assad.
16:28Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian doctor in a raid in the occupied West Bank as Zionist aggressions against healthcare personnel
16:36continue to rise.
16:37Local news sources reported that Israeli forces have arrested 54-year-old gynecologist Dr. Dima Muhammad Amin Baragad after raiding
16:46her home in the Atira neighborhood of Ramallah.
16:49In another attack, Israeli forces injured two Palestinians during a raid on the village of Beit Imrin south-northwest of
16:56Nablus in the occupied West Bank,
16:58while the Palestinian Red Crescent said its crew retreated two people who had been beaten by soldiers before taking them
17:05to the hospital.
17:06This is all part of a continued campaign of aggression by the Zionist forces against the Palestinian population.
17:20Also in Palestine, the Union of Municipalities of the Gaza Strip warned of an imminent collapse of the water, sanitation
17:26and basic services system in the area.
17:29The Union explained that the situation is due to the continued ban on importing generator oil and the reduction in
17:35diesel supplies over the past several months,
17:38which threatens the lives of more than 2 million people.
17:40The statement highlighted the catastrophic situation in areas of extreme overcrowding, particularly in the city of Han Yunis,
17:48where humanitarian and environmental conditions are deteriorating severely due to the continued accumulation of waste and the suspension of basic
17:56services.
17:56The Union also urged the relevant authorities and the international community to intervene urgently,
18:02stating that the continuation of the siege and the war is exacerbating the suffering of citizens and pushing the entire
18:09service system toward collapse.
18:25Moving on to Russia, the army forces reported that more than 600 Ukrainian drones attempted to attack Moscow.
18:32The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sovyanin, reported that a total of 620 Ukrainian drones fled toward Moscow between
18:41Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
18:43The mayor specified that 180 of the unmanned aircraft were destroyed over the Moscow region.
18:49In response to terrorism from Kyiv, the Russian armed forces are carrying out systematic strikes against military targets.
18:59And energy, transportation, logistical or other types of facilities linked to Ukraine's military industrial complex.
19:16Meanwhile, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, met in the Kremlin with President of the Republic of the Union of
19:22Myanmar, Minan Lang,
19:23who arrived in the country on an official visit.
19:26The Russian President emphasized that there are already solid foundations and promising projects for the strengthening economic cooperation between the
19:34two countries,
19:35and thanked Myanmar for its collaboration in developing Moscow's relations with the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations,
19:43ASEAN.
19:44The meeting is part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries, which have maintained diplomatic relations for more
19:51than seven decades.
19:52In this regard, the Russian President also highlighted the growing economic and tourism ties with the Asian countries.
20:05Head of states from several nations across the African South gathered in Durban for the 46th South African Development Community
20:13Summit,
20:14focusing on industrialization, infrastructure and regional economic integration.
20:20Opening the two-day summit, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called on member states to advance Vision 2050,
20:27urging deeper cooperation and the free movement of goods, services and people across borders.
20:33The regional experts emphasized that leaders must move beyond rhetoric, urging actionable solutions on cross-water trade,
20:41health care and economic development to prevent a deepening regional crisis.
20:45During the opening session, Ramaphosa officially assumed the role of SADC's shareperson, succeeding Zimbabwean President Emerson Nangawa.
20:59...at summits and practice exclusion in the streets of our countries.
21:05Now, as we work towards Vision 2050, we should seek a region in which people are able to freely move
21:15according to established principles, protocols and laws.
21:22And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
