00:17without sanctions and in peace.
00:24The peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the national coordination of the Bolivarian army have collapsed following repeated reports
00:34of extreme violence among guerrilla factions.
00:43The naval force of Iran's revolutionary corps announced the seizure of two vessels lacking the required permits to transit the
00:49strategic trade of Hormuz.
00:57Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Suso Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with
01:03the news.
01:18The National Assembly of Venezuela approved the project of an agreement in support of the great national pilgrimage for Venezuela
01:26without sanctions and in peace.
01:27The first vice president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, stated that the elimination of sanctions must become a common
01:36cause for this country.
01:37He explained that this agreement will be debated in all municipal chambers and in the legislative councils.
01:42He also indicated that of the approximately 1,081 sanctions enforced, only 18 licenses have been granted to relax some
01:50measures, but not eliminate them completely.
01:53On the other hand, the National Assembly appointed the members of the preliminary commission that will give way to the
01:59Judicial Postulations Committee.
02:00The president of parliament, Jorge Rodriguez, stated that this composition is part of the deep judicial reform process that has
02:07been initiated by the Commission for Democratic Coexistence and Peace.
02:17In this scenario, the acting president joined a human formation to express that Venezuela is peace from the state of
02:24Falcón, accompanied by regional authorities and social movement leaders.
02:28In this case, Desi Rodriguez visited the iconic Falcónian dunes to call for the lifting of the unilateral coercive measures
02:34imposed on the Venezuelan economy.
02:36A large crowd gathered to support the acting president, sending a strong message of national unity.
02:42He recalled that the aim of the pilgrimage is to unify public demand for the definitive lifting of the sanctions
02:47affecting the country's development and the well-being of the people.
03:09In the Venezuelan state of Falcón, the country's acting president does the biggest state that lifting sanctions is essential for
03:15restoring public services and social well-being.
03:24I have to say we are making progress, but we must keep the complete liberation of Venezuela from the sanctions
03:30system so that we can fully restore health care, education, public services, electricity and water.
03:39Here in Falcón, I am also making that commitment too.
03:45I have just come from reviewing the submarine pipeline project that must be completed for the Paraguana Peninsula.
03:53It is an immediate necessity to supply water to the population.
03:59So this journey does not have at its purpose or objective partisan controversy.
04:04It is not about hatred, resentment or revenge. No.
04:09Its purpose is unity. It is about unity.
04:12So that in this second independence of Venezuela, we can say that we also managed to unite as Venezuelans in
04:18the face of our common challenges.
04:24In this scenario, from the state of Trujillo, sectoral vice president for political, citizen security and peace, Diosdado Cabello,
04:31highlighted the country's progress despite the unilateral coercive measures imposed by U.S. imperialism.
04:36In addition, Cabello reassured that Venezuelan sovereignty must be respected and that lifting sanctions will enable the country to develop
04:43fully.
04:44Diosdado Cabello also thanked the population for their participation in the pilgrimage
04:48and invited all sectors to join the initiative called by acting President José Rodríguez,
04:53which demonstrates that Venezuela is a land of peace.
05:01Let Venezuela fly free so the world can see it as an united country.
05:06All sectors at the national level.
05:08All Venezuelans are united in the desire to have a Venezuela free of sanctions, a Venezuelan peace.
05:14Peace and tranquility are cross-counting values that enable everything else to flourish.
05:20With the peace and tranquility of our country guaranteed an investment arriving without any problems if the blockades and sanctions
05:28are lifted.
05:31And in a message sent from his place of kidnapping in the United States, Venezuela's constitutional president, Nicolas Maduro,
05:38expressed his admiration for Pope Francis.
05:41The Venezuelan president posted on the first anniversary of his passing and paid tribute to Pope Francis with profound admiration
05:48and affection.
05:50On behalf of Venezuela, he acknowledged his courage, the clarity of his words, and his love for suffering peoples.
05:57Francis always advocated for peace, dialogue, and defending human dignity in the face of evil, injustice, and lies.
06:07President Maduro added,
06:08Thanks to the love for and closeness to our people, Venezuela,
06:12joyfully venerate St. Jose Gregorio Hernandez and St. Carmen Rendiles at the Universal Catholic altar,
06:18in gratitude for his solidity and with the desire to speak to God from the heart and always seek the
06:24truth.
06:24I shared his teachings on prayer as said out in the Gospel of Luke 11, 1, 4 and 9, 10.
06:30Thank you, Pope Francis. You son hope forever.
07:05Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cosillo noted that the increase in the electricity generation resulting from greater fuel
07:12availability demonstrates the impact of the energy blockade imposed by the United States.
07:17On social media, Fernández wrote,
07:18The U.S. government shamelessly claims that the problems of insufficient power generation capacity are due to the alleged incompetence
07:26of the Cuban government.
07:27Why then does it threaten with coercive retaliation against the government of any country that allows the export of fuel
07:34to Cuba from its own territory?
07:36Even while acknowledging the technological challenges of the national electricity system, it is impossible to ignore the criminal and ruthless
07:44effect of the collective punishment imposed by the U.S. government on the Cuban people.
07:56We now have our first break. Stay with us.
08:17Welcome back.
08:18The peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the national coordination of the Bolivarian army have collapsed following repeated reports
08:26of extreme violence among guerrilla factions.
08:29Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the termination of Taro with one of the insurgent groups, discerning that they breached previous
08:35commitments.
08:36The Colombian head of state emphasized his desire to achieve national peace, obeyed founded on solid principles rather than deception.
08:43This crisis unfolds with less than four months remaining in Petro's four years presidential mandate.
09:07And Peru's National Jury of Elections reported this Tuesday that approximately 3,000 electoral records remain outstanding currently held under
09:16the custody of the National Office of Homeland Security.
09:19These critical documents are deemed indispensable by the governing body to finalize the verification of the official vote count.
09:27Although the agency claims to have resolved over 33,000 disputed records, it warns that the absence of the remaining
09:34copies prevents the legal closure of the process.
09:37This administrative deadlock unfolds amid the resignation of the OMPE chief following serious issues recorded during the April 12 polls.
09:52And Cuba once again denounced this Tuesday at the United Nations that the current international economic order is a structural
09:59obstacle to the development of nations.
10:01The Cuban ambassador to the organization Ernesto Soberon spoke at the 13th session of the mechanism of experts on the
10:08right to development and called for a profound transformation of the global financial architecture and the fulfillment of international cooperation
10:15commitments.
10:16The ambassador also denounced the escalation of measures by the United States government against Cuba, including the intensification of the
10:23blockade and the restriction of fuel supplies.
10:32The persistent bombing campaign orchestrated by the United States across the Caribbean and the Pacific has claimed at least 180
10:40lives.
10:40Moreover, in recent days, two Allied governments under the shield of the Americas banner have joined this ongoing massacre.
10:47Lately, an attack on an Ecuadorian fishing vessel left several dead and others adrift.
10:53Consequently, a survivor revealed that after being pulled from the sea and enduring abuse, he was handed over to the
10:59Salvadoran Navy.
11:00A previous incident involving a poder and workers also implicates the administration of President Daniel Noboa.
11:06In light of these atrocities, the High Commissioner for Human Rights and expert Jorge Vicente Paladines have categorically described these
11:14events as death penalty without trial.
11:22And on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a variety of events were held to commemorate Pope Francis one year after
11:27his death.
11:28Dozens of faithful gathered at the church in Buenos Aires to celebrate a mass in honor of the first Argentine
11:33and Latin American pope in the history of the Catholic Church.
11:36During the ceremony, attendees highlighted the virtues of the Supreme Pontiff, especially his love for those most in need.
11:43In addition, believers held a mother cave in his memory that threw iconic spots in the city creating an atmosphere
11:49of contemplation and recognition of the spiritual and social legacy left by Francis.
12:00And China expressed deep concern regarding Japan's current defense policy trajectory,
12:05worrying against an escalation toward what it labeled news-style militarism.
12:09This critique was delivered by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jia-kun, who urged Tokyo to uphold its commitment to peaceful
12:16development while reflecting on historical lessons.
12:18These declarations emerge as the Japanese government modifies its regulations to allow the export of lethal military equipment to allied
12:26nations.
12:27Nevertheless, Japanese security policy remains governed by a postwar constitution that restricts the use of force solely to territorial defense.
12:34Currently, the nation maintains self-defense forces whose operations are strictly bound by these legal limitations.
12:47And on Wednesday, the International Criminal Court confirmed that it has jurisdiction to try former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,
12:55who had filed a motion challenging the International Court's jurisdiction in his case, in which he is accused of crimes
13:01against humanity.
13:02In April 2017, a Filipino lawyer filed a complaint against Duterte with the ICC, accusing him of committing mass killings
13:09during the anti-drug campaign,
13:11which began after his inauguration on June 30, 2016, and during his 22 years as mayor of Davao on the
13:18island of Mindanao.
13:19In June 2021, the ICC Prosecutor's Office sought judicial authorization to investigate alleged crimes against humanity,
13:26estimating that between 12,000 and 30,000 civilians were extrajudicially executed between July 2016 and March 2019.
13:33The court denied Duterte provision of release, citing the risk of flight, obstruction of justice, or the possibility of re
13:39-offending.
13:46And German carrier Lufthansa has announced the cancellation of 20,000 short-haul flights through October, adopting a fuel-saving
13:55strategy amid surging prices driven by the U.S. war against Iran.
13:58According to an official statement released this Tuesday, the corporation specified that this measure represents an estimated saving of 40
14:06,000 metric tons of fuel since the announcement.
14:08The initial 120 daily cancellations have already taken effect, impacting routes from Frankfurt to destinations such as Bitkosk and Restshof
14:18in Poland, as well as Tevenger in Norway.
14:21Furthermore, Lufthansa indicated it is re-evaluating its medium-term route planning with expected adjustments to short-distance services for
14:29the summer season in an attempt to secure schedule stability.
14:38Let's take now our second break. Don't go away.
15:04The Naval Force of Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced the seizure of two vessels lacking the required permit to transit the
15:10air.
15:10Strait of Hormuz. Military authorities say that the French-origin ships manipulated their
15:17navigation systems, thereby endangering maritime security within the waterway. Currently, Iranian
15:22forces reveal that the container ship is linked to the Israeli regime, emphasizing that any
15:28disruption to order and safety in the strait represents a red line. Previously, the Islamic
15:33Revolutionary Guard Corps had declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the
15:37United States completely lift its naval blockade.
15:56On Wednesday, Iran confirmed that negotiations with the United States would continue once President
16:01Donald Trump orders the lifting of the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. The permanent representative
16:06of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Amir Said Irovani, said that he has
16:12reliable information that Washington is interested in continuing the meetings in Islamabad. Several
16:18international agencies reported that the Iranian army had fired on a tanker that attempted to break
16:22the Persian control this morning. The ambassador did not comment on this but recalled that both the
16:28anti-blocate and the intimidating measures imposed by the White House in the Persian Gulf were illegal.
16:39Iran entered the negotiations in good faith and with seriousness but has found one side to the
16:44negotiations that has shown a lack of seriousness and good faith. The United States is constantly
16:49changing its position. We never said we would go into negotiations and then break our commitment.
16:54That is a practice unique to the United States. Iran urges the United States to lift the
17:00naval blockade so that negotiations can resume in Islamabad, Pakistan.
17:09Iran is willing to return to the negotiating table in Islamabad provided the United States lift its
17:15naval blockade. Following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement to extend the ceasefire,
17:20the United States must cease its violation of the ceasefire agreement before any new round of talks.
17:41For its part, despite Iran not sending any delegation to participate in the Islamabad talks,
17:46U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a post that he is extending the ceasefire. In a message on his
17:50social media Truth Social, the U.S. leaders cited alleged internal divisions within the Iranian state
17:56as a reason for maintaining the truth, ignoring the effects of the U.S. aggressions against Iran that
18:02have killed several senior figures in the country. In this regard, Iran stated that it will not recognize
18:08the ceasefire announced by Trump and may not respect it and will act in accordance with its national interests.
18:19For its part, in this regard, the spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Abraham Sol Faggarty,
18:26warned that the armed forces of his country are on high alert and ready to respond in the face of
18:32repeated threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. Sol Faggarty emphasized that Iranian forces would
18:38immediately and decisively attack pre-established targets in the event of any aggression or action
18:45against Iran, adding that the United States and Israel would receive a more severe lesson than ever
18:50before. In this regard, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Air Space Force,
18:55Brigadier General Mahid Mousavi warned on Tuesday of any enemy aggression against Iranian territory.
19:01Mousavi also warned Iran's silent neighbors not to use their geography or resources to serve the
19:07enemies and attack the Iranian people, adding they should say goodbye to oil production in the region.
19:13The two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan,
19:17has been in effect since April 8, 2026, while Iran maintains its readiness to respond to any aggression.
19:29In the United States, a senior official from the Army's Nuclear and Chemical Security Office confirmed
19:35the brutal massacre of the girls of Minab School in Iran at the hands of U.S. forces and revealed
19:39the
19:40continued use of lethal toxic agents in imperialist aggressions. The scientist was exposed during a
19:46sting operation by investigative journalists, where during an undercover encounter, the official leaked
19:51classified data on camera. Furthermore, he admitted that infanticide is a recurring element of U.S.
19:57military doctrine, adding a shielding ultimatum regarding the assassination of Moushaba Khamenei
20:03should Tehran reject Washington's demands. Likewise, Andrew Hook confirmed a cover-up laboratory
20:08disaster involving a severe toxic explosion.
20:17The authorities of Kuwait reaffirmed that their territory will not be used as a base to attack
20:22any country in the region. In a statement, Kuwait's Council of Ministers emphasized that the country is
20:27not a party to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The authorities reaffirmed that their foreign
20:32policy is based on international law, peaceful coexistence and good neighbourly relations. In the statement,
20:38officials emphasized that safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting the country's
20:43interests remain their top priority.
20:51And on Tuesday, the United Nations warned that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz threatens to
20:55trigger a massive food crisis in vulnerable countries. According to the U.N. Office for Project
21:01Services, the blockade of this maritime corridor is hindering the distribution of fertilizers essential
21:06for food production in much of the world. The agency's executive director, Jorge Mereda de Silva,
21:12emphasized that one-third of global trading fertilizers and raw materials, such as urea and ammonia,
21:18passes through this area. The disruption directly affects countries already facing humanitarian crises,
21:24such as Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Sri Lanka, which rely on these supplies for their agricultural cycles.
21:30The international organization urged an immediate reopening as the planting season on the African
21:37continent ends in May.
21:45The United Nations Children's Fund released a new report on Wednesday on the situation of children in
21:51Gaza. According to this report, more than one million children in the Palestinian enclave are not
21:56receiving any kind of aid, a situation that is worsening as the occupying force prevents the entry of
22:02vital aid, despite the agreements made. 700,000 guys and children have now spent two years of school
22:08without sustained access to education, and nearly one million may be suffering from chronic malnutrition.
22:38And on Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV celebrated a Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in
22:44Montgomery, the last country of his apostolic journey across Africa. After this Mass, the Pope continued his
22:52journey and met with young people and families in Bata. He would also hold a closing Mass at the
22:59Malabu Stadium before returning to Rome. This visit demonstrates his humanitarian commitment and
23:04strengthens the spiritual bond with the African continent.
