Transcript
00:00Venezuelan Vice President Elcio RodrĂguez addressed the Gas Exporting Countries Forum
00:16taking place in Qatar, warning the U.S. seeks to appropriate the natural resources of the
00:23Bolivarian nation. At least 18 departments in France are on orange alert due to the
00:32impact of storm Benjamin which has been battering the country since Thursday
00:38morning. And the United States government announced new sanctions against the major
00:46Russian oil companies Rosnaft and Lucoil. Hello and welcome to From the South. My
00:56name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from a Tesla Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:01We begin with the information from Venezuela within the framework of the Gas Exporting
01:18Countries Forum taking place in Doha, Qatar. Vice President Elcio RodrĂguez denounced the U.S.
01:23military threats against her country and the Caribbean region in general, emphasizing that
01:29its objective is to appropriate the rich natural resources of the Bolivarian nation.
01:38This opportunity to denounce the war threat by the United States against Venezuela and the
01:43Caribbean countries. They want to steal our hydrocarbon, oil and gas resources. But they
01:48also intend, and I would like to take this opportunity to point this out, to disrupt the
01:53agreements that Venezuela has, the gas agreements with the Caribbean.
01:59And on Thursday, Venezuela activated the national coastal defense exercise as part of the Independence
02:05200 plan in response to the United States military deployment at the Caribbean Sea that threatens the
02:11nation's sovereignty. A joint effort involving civilians, the military and the police was set off in this defense
02:20as part of the United States. The United States, the United States, the United States, the United States, the
02:25United States, the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States, and the United States.
02:26And the main purpose of this action is to guarantee the capacity to respond to any aggression that threatens the
02:33country's territorial peace. The Independence 200 plan ensures the protection of constitutional rights that guarantees the free movement of citizens who are committed and willing to defend their homeland.
02:45Here we are in perfect union with the people, the military and the police in this special exercise that allows us to
02:57threaten the defense of our coast in eastern Venezuela and, in particular, here in the state of Anzuategui.
03:03From the municipalities of Peña, Albert, Bolívar, Urbaneja, Sotillo, and Guanta, in this most human national park, this exercise demonstrates our strength,
03:10our capacity, and most importantly, our absolute will and determination to protect our national territory, our independence, and our sovereignty.
03:18A proteger nuestro territorio nacional, nuestra independencia y nuestra soberanĂa.
03:23I would say in Venezuela, as the International Anti-Fascist Forum, concluded a day of debate, bringing together 52 delegations from various countries from around the world.
03:33The meeting served as a platform for global unity and rejection of the escalation of U.S. military threats in the Caribbean.
03:41During his speech, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill denounced Washington's recent mobilization of naval and air assets,
03:49describing it as a violation of international law.
03:53In this regard, he stated that these maneuvers of interference will not prevail against a people that have decided to be free.
04:03Today, they threaten us with missiles, with warships, with aircrafts, with nuclear submarines, with economic sanctions, with blockades,
04:23as the ones offered by the revolutionary people of Cuba, and us, here in Venezuela, with sanctions.
04:34But there are no nuclear submarines, no military aircrafts, no ships, no missiles.
04:41There is no sanction that can defeat a people when they decide to be free.
04:45It does not exist.
04:49Also in Venezuela, the Great Mission Return to the Homeland completed its 79th flight, repatriating 208 Venezuelan migrants from Texas in the United States.
05:01This group was made up of 159 men, 35 women, and 11 minors.
05:07The day was marked by the success of a great humanitarian effort that led to the reunion of seven-year-old Osmadi Perdomo Carranza with her mother, Catherine Carranza,
05:18after being separated for almost five months in the U.S.
05:23The mother, Catherine Carranza, publicly denounced that during her trial, U.S. officials pressured her to sign her deportation order
05:31without guaranteeing her prior reunification with her daughter, in this way violating her fundamental rights.
05:44Now we go now to Honduras, as Councillor Marlon Ochoa reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office
05:50the plans to destabilize the country in connection with the electoral process on November 30th.
05:57The Councillor Ochoa delivered a USB drive with 24 audio files.
06:03He claims they prove an organized plan to discredit the electoral process, create a crisis of legitimacy,
06:09and cause post-election unrest.
06:12Ochoa asked the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate, identify, and sanction those responsible
06:18and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
06:21In addition, he warned that the Electoral Council resolves transmission system,
06:26which depends on private channels and multinational companies,
06:30represents a vulnerable point that could be exploited to manipulate or interrupt the transmission of records on Election Day.
06:37Dear Attorney General of the Republic, I, Marlon Ochoa, hereby appear before you
06:51to file a complaint and inform the Public Prosecutor's Office of facts that,
06:57to the best of my knowledge and understanding, constitute conduct criminalized under the criminal and electoral laws of the Republic of Honduras,
07:11and pose a serious and imminent threat to the Republic order, democratic stability, constitutional order,
07:18and the integrity of the 2025 general election process.
07:22My complaint is based on information and audio material that I am obliged to transmit to the competent authorities
07:32so that it may be subjected to a rigorous investigation.
07:36On Tuesday, Brazil's Supreme Court sentenced seven participants in the attempted coup,
07:43led by former President Jair Bolsonaro, to up to 17 years in prison.
07:49Seven other high-ranking former collaborators of Bolsonaro have already been sentenced in that trial,
07:56which led to punitive tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump against Brazil
08:00on the grounds of an alleged witch-hunt against his ally.
08:05Those convicted on Tuesday, a federal police officer and five military officers,
08:10as well as the president of an independent electoral audit institute,
08:14contributed with digital militias to spread misinformation about the electronic voting system
08:21during the 2022 elections, according to Judge Alexander de Moraes.
08:30And the Brazilian president, Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, has arrived in Indonesia
08:36as part of his tour of Southeast Asia.
08:40In addition to strengthening the bilateral trade,
08:43the Brazilian leader seeks to establish new generation agreements
08:47related to innovation, artificial intelligence, data centers,
08:51and the promotion of university relations.
08:54President Lula highlighted the geopolitical importance of Indonesia
08:59for the global south following its recent incorporation into the BRICS.
09:04For his part, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto urged his counterpart
09:09to continue deepening these good bilateral relations in key areas,
09:13such as investment and agriculture.

09:32Welcome back to From the South.
09:53We continue with more information.
09:55In France, at least 18 departments are on orange alert due to the impact of Storm Benjamin,
10:01which has been battering the country since Thursday morning.
10:06Meteor France issued a second-level alert for the western, northern, central, and southern departments
10:12due to adverse weather conditions that will affect nearly the entire country.
10:17In this scenario, official reports forecast that winds could reach 130 kilometers per hour,
10:24although the level of precipitation is still unclear.
10:28Several train lines have been temporarily suspended with operations as a precautionary measure,
10:34and more than 100,000 homes are reportedly without electricity.
10:41Residents in the southern Tunisian city of Gibbs held a general strike over a years-long pollution crisis.
10:55This way, protesters demanded the closure of a state-run phosphate processing plant,
11:00which is being blamed for the pollution affecting thousands of citizens,
11:04leading to several illnesses and mass poisoning.
11:08In this context, demonstrators denounce that over 200 people have been hospitalized in recent weeks
11:14due to respiratory issues associated with the operations of the chemical plant.
11:19Moreover, environmental organizations have warned of the deterioration of the marine ecosystem
11:25due to the large volumes of ammonia, nitrogen oxides, and sulfates
11:30spilled by the company into the Mediterranean Sea.
11:34The strike was called by the Tunisian General Labor Union
11:38and completely shut down economic activity in the city.
11:48Meanwhile in Brazil, representatives of indigenous peoples and social organizations
11:53set sail in the Yakumama Flotilla
11:56to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP30, in Belén du Pará.
12:02The fleet set sail from the city of Coca in Ecuador to denounce the use of fossil fuels.
12:09These boats will cross the Andes to the Amazon
12:11and bring together more than 60 indigenous and territorial organizations
12:16and international allies.
12:18The delegations emphasize that this journey is an act of resistance
12:22and empowerment that links the climate crisis to its colonial and extractive roots.
12:32Meanwhile, the Mexican government announced on one-state delivery of aid to families affected
12:41by the rains that have hit the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, and Querétaro.
12:47According to President Claudia Sheinbaum, the families will receive 20,000 Mexican pesos worth of aid per home
12:54with the possibility of additional assistance in cases of the total loss of their houses.
12:59The president informed that access to some of the affected communities had been partially restored
13:05and that works are still underway for the recovery of all public services to the communities.
13:12Sheinbaum also said that she will visit the state of Hidalgo on Saturday to supervise the recovery operations.
13:20And in other news, the Mexican government has established more than 600 support centers for women.
13:33According to data from the Secretariat for Women, the institution achieved its goal of establishing 678 centers
13:41for freedom, equality, well-being, community networks, and emancipation throughout the 32 federal entities.
13:49According to an official statement, from May 1st to August 15th,
13:53the initiative, backed by an investment of more than $35 million, served 99,032 women.
14:02In this context, President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed the secretary that by the end of her sixth-year term,
14:08women should have at least one free center in every municipality in the country.
14:14And in Panama, workers at the Inter-Oceania Canal have denounced that the administration is taking illegal and arbitrary action regarding their wages.
14:29Captains and tugboat officers denounced the company as using a ruling to retroactively reverse salary increases
14:36from when the collective agreement was enforced.
14:40The workers are complaining about the imposition of undue sanctions to change in working conditions without proper procedure
14:47and the discrepancy between the administration's salary increase and the proposals for the workers.
14:54Lawyers describe these practices as illegal and arbitrary.
14:58However, they emphasize that the problem is not the ruling itself,
15:02but rather the interpretation being made by the Canal's administration.
15:10And in Peru, military and police units have been on patrol since early Tuesday following the declaration of a state of emergency
15:20due to anti-government protests.
15:22The interim government decision was made under the argument of stopping the presence of what it described as
15:29hetment and mafia groups, which allows the armed forces to support the national police.
15:36The measure affects about 10 million people in addition to restricting rights such as freedom of assembly and the inviolability of the home.
15:45The protesters demand an end to the reform of the pension law, which has less than 2% of people's approval.
15:54The state of emergency comes in the context of the intense mobilization that continued to develop in the Indian country
16:01in rejection of the government of Josejeri.

16:26Welcome back to Queen South. We continue with more information.
16:46The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced on Wednesday new sanctions against the major Russian oil companies Rosnaft and Lukoil.
16:55The decision comes after President Donald Trump suspended a meeting in Budapest with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin
17:03on the grounds of lack of progress in the solution of the conflict in Ukraine.
17:08The measures are in addition to the 19th package of sanctions already imposed on the Eurasian nation
17:14and include the freezing of assets and interests of both companies in U.S. territory,
17:21the prohibition of transactions with U.S. nationals and entities,
17:25and their exclusion from the U.S. financial system.
17:29Meanwhile, in the United States, the leading candidates for mayor of New York City,
17:42Democrat Sarah Mamdani and Independent Andrew Cuomo offered statements on Wednesday
17:47regarding a raid by Immigration and Customs Inforcement, or ICE.
17:52In their final debate before the election, the candidates discussed how they would handle an ICE raid in an area where street benders operate.
18:01Mandani in the first place in the polls advocated for passing a street bending reform that protects benders
18:09as opposed to working with Trump, who seeks to declare war on these benders.
18:14As a former governor and member of the establishment, Cuomo cited his experience with Trump
18:21and asserted that it is necessary to confront him, as he had to do so in the past due to his interference in local elections.
18:30Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered in front of the federal building in New York
18:44to protest against the recent raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
18:50The protesters not only expressed a rejection of ICE's presence and actions,
18:54but also accused the authorities of directly attacking migrant communities.
18:59They also described these operations as unacceptable and authoritarian demanding an end to these measures in the city.
19:07At the national level, the intensification of ICE and other federal agencies' police
19:13against undocumented immigrants has created a deep division between those who support them and those who condemn them.
19:29We go now to the Middle East.
19:45As in Jordan, a group of 12 children from the Gaza Strip arrived to receive medical treatment.
19:51The minors landed in Amman on Thursday with 38 family members who will accompany them during their professional medical care
19:59in local and private hospitals.
20:02Health authorities reported that once their treatment is complete,
20:05the patients and their families would be sent back to Gaza,
20:09allowing access for another group of Gaza and children in need of care.
20:13This evacuation is the 13th under the Jordan-Ghasa Medical Corridor Initiative announced in February,
20:20as the country is ready to receive up to 2,000 Palestinian children.
20:25The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq, the IHEC,
20:37and a delegation of experts from the European Union held a meeting to coordinate
20:41and discuss mechanisms to support the upcoming electoral process.
20:46The chairman of the IHEC Board of Commissioners, Omar Ahmed,
20:51received the European Union delegation to coordinate actions
20:54to aim to ensure transparent and fair elections.
20:59The European Union delegates praised the organizational and administrative efforts
21:03made by the electoral body during the preparation of the legislative elections
21:08scheduled for November 11th.
21:11The High Electoral Commission officially approved more than 7,768 candidates
21:19who will compete for a total of 329 seats in the House of Representatives.
21:25And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
