00:11and he gave you the ugly from last night.
00:14And listen, the offense, which I think most of the day was beyond what I think
00:23most Texans fans could have hoped for against a quality opponent like the
00:27Buffalo Bills to put up 31 points, to have damn near 30 before the fourth.
00:33That's beyond what I think people were hopeful for.
00:36And as you said, C.J., for you, he was better than you expected.
00:40Nick Kaley, good praise for him.
00:43I mean, when you're a coordinator and you are the coordinator of this struggling team
00:49and you struggle at, I mean, struggling offense from last year,
00:52you struggle at times when you personally get a walk-in touchdown
00:56that really almost anybody on your team could have executed to David Montgomery
01:01just because of your play call and how you set it up.
01:04That's big time and what they did the rest of the week.
01:06Now, they weren't perfect.
01:08And I think throughout the week we'll probably look at some things moving forward.
01:13And one thing for me, Clint and Tyler, is I'm just – how long are we going to do this
01:20Jalen Dole
01:22and Xavier Higgins thing or Xavier Hutchinson thing?
01:28Like, it is clear that he is far more explosive.
01:34And, listen, I understand that Hutchinson should have a role in this thing.
01:39But, I mean, I just think they've got to give C.J., Nico, everyone the best chance they can get.
01:45Hutchinson played 56% of the snaps, had three catches, 32 yards on six targets.
01:52Like, there was a point where I felt like the ball was coming his way just a tad too much.
01:57But he had six targets.
01:59Jalen Dole was by far the second leading receiver in the game behind Nico Collins
02:06on two targets for 53 yards.
02:09Two catches, two targets, 53 yards.
02:12He played lesser snaps, Clint, than Jared Wayne did.
02:17Jared Wayne played 32% of the snaps.
02:20He played 30% of the snaps.
02:21And he was their second leading receiver.
02:23However, there's one thing that was clear, Clint, that they found a way to score
02:30and do some things, but they are lacking a lot of explosiveness behind Nico.
02:36And we kind of knew that going in.
02:37But it was on full display.
02:39But it is clear that kid brings it.
02:42And I just – I think he has got to see the field more.
02:46And to think that Hutch is seeing it that much more.
02:48They didn't run the ball that well for him to just – for him to be out.
02:52But they have got to find a way to get this catch.
02:54And this is two years in a row.
02:55I don't know why – what it is and what's happening that he is not getting on the field more.
02:59Yeah, look, I think the – Jalen Dole is the answer, I think, to a deficiency, if you will,
03:07on this offense.
03:07Look, they scored 31 points.
03:09It's hard to complain.
03:09The reality of it is we're going to see a better front.
03:12So is this offensive line really that good?
03:15We're going to see a better secondary.
03:17I mean, that secondary was very, very suspect in Buffalo.
03:21We're going to see a better secondary, right?
03:24We're not going to be able to throw the ball to 11 different pass catchers every single game.
03:31Now, here's where – here's where I think, to your point, the bigger overall need –
03:40we've talked about it a million times, and I think it's very real.
03:43Now, the lack of speed, explosion, change of direction, twitch, whatever you want to call it,
03:48in this entire pass catcher group, you've got Foster Moreau, Cade Stover, and Dalton Schultz.
03:55I mean, there ain't no shake.
03:57I mean, hey, look, I like all three of them in a vacuum, right?
04:02Ain't none of them should touch the dance floor now.
04:04I mean, they're not creating separation.
04:07They're not changing directions.
04:08They're all old trustees.
04:10They're all, you know, good chemistry, be where you're supposed to be guys.
04:14That's great, right?
04:15But that's your tight end room for the most part.
04:1783 is going to mix in there as a rookie.
04:19To some degree, we'll see what he brings to the table in the regular season.
04:23Him too, maybe a little bit more for him too.
04:24Right, I like him, but we'll see what he brings to the table.
04:27David Montgomery is going to be more of your bell cow,
04:31and they're going to try to run the football.
04:32I don't know that you're going to have a whole, you know,
04:36a long laundry list of plays that are going to feature Woody Marks in a pass game.
04:42Just don't think this offense is going to feature that, right?
04:45In the wide receiver group, to your point, beyond Nico,
04:48boy, there's a large gap between one and two receiver
04:53when it comes to just speed and change of direction,
04:55explosiveness, playmaking ability.
04:56And I agree with you that that gap is between Nico and Jalen Knoll.
05:02Like, Knoll is the next guy.
05:03So, as we see it right now, I agree that Jalen Knoll is the guy that's got to,
05:09against a better defense, you're going to have to seek out your better players
05:13to get plays, I think, to get plays made, I believe.
05:16I mean, you could just see, I mean, his ability compared to all of the other guys
05:21to create separation, it's just, I mean, on one play,
05:26he outgained just about everybody else on the one play.
05:30Yeah, well, he's just a different, like, I love Boutte in that opposite
05:33outside receiver stationary role.
05:35Yeah, he'll come along.
05:36I love that, and maybe he is the one that comes along.
05:39But the guy that seems to be underutilized or unknown
05:42or that could carry more of the load and be a bigger part of the offense,
05:46I think, overnight, is Jalen Knoll.
05:49And I think he brings a different element than a Nico and a Boutte
05:52and some of these other guys.
05:54So hopefully Jalen Knoll, to your overall point,
05:57hopefully Jalen Knoll does become a bigger part of this.
05:59And that's the other point.
06:00Yeah, they scored 31, and I think they have the ability to be very successful
06:05this week against this defense as well, against the Bengals.
06:10But as you said, they're going to face better defenses, better fronts,
06:17and you need to give CJ, you need to give Nico,
06:21you need to give yourself, Nick Cayley, as much a chance to have space
06:26and have the ability to get guys open and to get the ball out.
06:31And he uncovers as quick as any of the other receivers.
06:37And you're going to have teams that just say to hell with it.
06:39And I think Buffalo even did it at some point,
06:41like you're just not going to let 12 beat us.
06:43We're just not going to let it happen.
06:44CJ was really comfortable this week.
06:46Like there was never – like Buffalo didn't have the ability to go,
06:49okay, we're going to put clamps on everybody
06:51and we're going to force you to win at the line of scrimmage and win now
06:54or you're going to get sacked.
06:55Like they didn't have the ability to do that.
06:57Teams are going to try that against this offense.
06:59And when they do, 12 can't be the only answer.

07:03Maybe Boutte becomes a bigger part of it.

07:06But Jalen Knoll seems to be the guy that's got a little bit of shake
07:09that should give you answers.
