00:01Former Mara Corporation Sendirian Berhad CEO Badlisah Abdul Ghani has failed to overturn a court order requiring him to pay
00:09the company RM3.4 million for breaching his duties.
00:13Bulletin TV3 reported that the Court of Appeal found no reason to interfere with the High Court ruling and ordered
00:19Badlisah to pay RM50,000 in costs.
00:22The High Court had found him liable for breaching contractual, fiduciary and statutory duties during his tenure as CEO from
00:31September 2020 to January 2021.
00:34Badlisah was appointed on September 8, 2020, suspended two months later and had his contract terminated on January 12, 2021.
00:43Mara Corporation's suit cited several actions taken without board approval, including hiring 25 employees, buying 25 Microsoft Office Surface laptops
00:53and appointing public relations and recruitment firms.
00:58The Court said hiring 25 workers within two weeks of his appointment raised serious questions and showed he had overstepped
01:05his authority.
01:06The move cost Mara Corporation RM9.4 million in salaries that year, far above its approved RM1.799 million emolument
01:16budget for 2020.
01:18The judges also found that an internal memo had improperly expanded his authority to appoint senior directors.
01:24They also upheld the finding that Badlisah had misrepresented the employment status of four workers,
01:31after telling a committee they were ready to join Mara Corporation when they were already employed there.
