00:00The family of Mongolia National Ahtantuya Sharibu has fully refunded the damages and
00:06costs previously awarded following the Court of Appeals' decision clearing the government
00:10of liability for her death nearly 20 years ago.
00:14The family's lawyer, Sangeet Kaur-Dio, said the entire amount had remained untouched in
00:19her firm's stakeholder account from the moment it was received in strict compliance with
00:23the court order.
00:24Sangeet also noted that the same procedure was followed for Ahtantuya's former lover,
00:29Abdul Razak Baginda, with remittance made in accordance with the deductions ordered by
00:33the Court of Appeal.
00:35Last month, FMT reported that Ahtantuya's family would be required to return RM4.7 million
00:40to the government following the Court of Appeals' decision to absolve the government of liability
00:45for her death.
00:47Razak, meanwhile, was expected to receive a refund after deducting the RM1.38 million in
00:53damages awarded by the court three days ago.
00:55The refund was based on a High Court decision last year, which ordered both the government
01:00and Razak to pay RM4.7 million each, totaling RM9.4 million in damages, and deposit the funds
01:06until their appeals were heard.
