00:00So one of the things that has been happening more recently is that now that a lot of these

00:06primaries are over and these DSA candidates or these communist candidates have actually won

00:11their races, a lot of them and Democrats like AOC, Bernie Sanders, and others are backtracking

00:21on a lot of their stances because they realize in order to win a general, they can't say a lot

00:28of the things that they were saying, or they have to pretend like they don't support things

00:34like defund the police and all this other crazy lunatic stuff.

00:38And so you're seeing a lot of them do a whole lot of backtracking, which is what AOC recently

00:43did.

00:44And we're going to hop right on into it.

00:46I'm not going to bury the lead here.

00:47Let's jump right on into AOC on ABC backtracking like crazy.

01:00We have Wisconsin coming up next, Francesca Hong, who is the Democratic Socialists of

01:05America, a supporting candidate for governor.

01:10Are you, you haven't endorsed her.

01:14My focus has been in winning back the Congress, winning back the House, and positioning ourselves

01:19to have the best chance possible to win the Senate.

01:24So I've been focused on those legislative reasons.

01:27What do you make of those controversial statements I'm sure you've seen?

01:29I mean, she's, you know, the Thanksgiving dust up.

01:33She says she doesn't, you know, still believe that.

01:35But, you know, I love how when Democrats are, you know, put in the hot seat, like when

01:42Graham Plattner, right, was going through all of his nonsense.

01:48When you would ask some of these Democrats, they'd say, well, I'm focused on blah, blah,

01:53blah, as if they can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

01:58You know, like they're acting like they're so focused on, you know, this, this race or

02:04this other race that they don't know about what's going on with Graham Plattner or she

02:08doesn't know what's going on with Francesca Hong.

02:12You know exactly what is happening.

02:14Stop with this nonsense.

02:15Well, I'm focused on blah, blah, blah.

02:23And if you can't, then maybe you shouldn't be in D.C.

02:32There needs to be a little more pushback against these Democrats using that as an excuse to

02:37not answer some of these questions.

02:41You know, the abolish prisons, abolish police, which is also positions that have been taken

02:46by a lot of the progressive candidates who have won.

02:50How do you how do you get around that?

02:51Yeah.

02:52Those are not positions that are supported by.

02:55I mean, I think that a lot of these races.

02:58Even right now, they'll have a tendency to be nationalized.

03:02But these races ultimately are local and all politics are local.

03:08My understanding is that is is that Francesca Hong has made clear her present stances to

03:15her.

03:19And I have a local city councilman that has this saying, woke one was crazy.

03:30And I think that what's important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying.

03:35I mean, did the movement go too far with some of those positions?

03:37I mean, you you briefly supported the idea of defunding the police.

03:40Well, you know, I think I think that during this time and during especially during COVID,

03:48there was a huge opening of the Overton window.

03:50We were shut down.

03:51There was some of the highest unemployment rates that we have seen because of those shutdowns.

03:55And I think that the doors were really open in trying to entertain any and every policy

04:02that was going to get us to a better place.

04:05And I actually think that the discussions that had that were had in that time were quite

04:11fruitful.

04:12I think that when we talk about crime today, it's fundamentally different than the way

04:17that we talked about crime in bringing crime down.

04:20Right.

04:20And I think that we all share in the goals of having as low a crime rate as possible.

04:25I think that, you know, during lockdown.

04:28No, we do not.

04:30No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, we don't.

04:33And the proof is in the pudding.

04:36The proof is in the pudding.

04:38You you look at these Democrat run places versus Republican led places.

04:43Completely different.

04:44Completely different.

04:45You look at the policies, completely different.

04:48Democrats believe in abolishing the police.

04:51Democrats believe in getting rid of jails.

04:53Democrats believe in unfettered number of chances.

04:59That's not the Republican stance.

05:02The Democrat policies lead to more crime.

05:06Republican policies don't lead to more crime.

05:10It's facts.

05:11This is facts.

05:12So don't try to make it seem like we're one in the same.

05:15We are not in the same boat at all.

05:18I mean, granted, we're in the American boat.

05:20But outside of that, nah, bruh.

05:28It's crazy.

05:30Of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today.

05:34And I'm grateful that these candidates have the opportunity to present who they are to

05:39their electorate and what they're campaigning on in this moment.

05:43Because, you know, and obviously the Democratic Socialists of America are having quite a moment.

05:50But you know how Republicans are responding.

05:52Let me just give you a brief sampling.

05:54Sure.

05:57Let's call it what it is.

05:59It's communism.

06:00The Commie Caucus is coming to Congress.

06:03Communism is on the ballot this November.

06:05We're not going to turn this country into a communist experiment.

06:09Well, you kind of get a sense of the theme.

06:11And obviously the president has said the same thing.

06:14By the way, just a quick definitional thing.

06:16What, in your mind, is the difference between socialism and communism?

06:20I think, to me, the fundamental difference is, I mean, there's many.

06:25One prevailing one is democracy.

06:28And I believe that Democratic Socialists are fundamentally pro-democracy.

06:35And we believe in the ballot box.

06:38We believe in...

06:46...assuring that the ideas...

07:30And so, I think that's why so much of what we focus on is also making sure that we are

07:37providing for the majority of Americans.

07:39Guaranteeing health care, raising wages, strengthening the right to a union.

07:44And I think that that's, at its core, what we're about.

07:59So, every DSA chapter is formed locally.

10:38You know, every position that Scott just laid out, when you presented it to her, she talked about backing off,

10:46changing their views, evolving views.

10:52Look, I think the congressman put it correctly, that there's two parts to this.

10:57It's what are you talking about, and do we trust what you're saying?

11:00And after listening to the congressman, why should anyone trust her?

11:03The things that she has said previously now, when she senses that she didn't know what she was talking about,

11:09and she was out of touch with the American people, and now wants to advance her career,

11:14now all of a sudden she's saying different things.

11:16And I have to say, when you played the Francesca Hong part, I can tell you this.

11:22The Republican Governors Association is giddy over what will happen on Tuesday,

11:28because we're going to hold people like her and the congresswoman to what they've said over their careers,

11:37not what they're trying to conveniently evolve into now.

11:41Yeah, I agree with that.

11:43I agree with that.

11:44And I'm not even a big Chris Christie fan.

11:46Not a Chris Christie fan at all, to be completely honest.

11:48But he's right.

11:49And that's exactly what we should do.

11:52Hold them accountable for what they have been saying,

11:55and not what they want to say now, simply because it's election time.
