00:00One of the hardest things to do as the new head coach, because we get a new head coach wherever
00:05it is, it's building your staff.
00:10We always focus on the head coach and what we think that head coach is going to do.
00:15But the first thing that you should do when you see a new head coach is who is he hiring
00:19as the OC, who is he hiring as the DC, who's going to be his quarterback coach, who's going to
00:23be his quarterback coach, who's going to be his linebacker.
00:26All of that stuff matters, and I think Aaron Glenn smartly is looking at some of those decisions and critically
00:35evaluating them.
00:36Because you're right, you've got to have a good working relationship, but they better be competent at what they're doing.
00:43And sometimes you end up hiring friends.
00:45Let's give my friend a chance, because I've seen him grind, I've seen him do this.
00:49Let's give him a chance.
00:50You better know it's going to work.
00:51And so that's probably the best interview I've ever heard Aaron Glenn do since he's taken a job with the
00:58New York Jets.
00:59That's the best one that I've ever listened to him.

01:03I'm glad you feel that way.
01:05That answer alone, and the whole interview was great.
01:07I thought the guys did a great job with all their interviews yesterday.
01:10But Aaron Glenn specifically, it gave me hope for the Jets.
01:15Now again, I'm not off of that interview going to default and change and go, you know what?
01:19I think the Jets are winning nine games.
01:20That's not what I'm saying.
01:22But it gave me hope because I know that in this town between the Jets and the Giants combined, we've
01:26seen a lot of head coaching failures, and that's putting it lightly.
01:30And oftentimes, these guys tend to figure out or get into panic kind of modes when it's too late.
01:38I mean, look at Brian Dable yesterday last year when he finally pulled the ripcord and went to Jackson Dart.
01:42He should have sorted that Jackson Dart from week one, but he kind of didn't know what to do, thought
01:47he owed it to somebody, kind of like that.
01:49Made promises.
01:50Made promises.
01:51Made promises.
01:51And that's just one of a million examples.
01:53You want to go down the line of Joe Judge and his relationship with Dave Gettleman, whatever.
01:57And with the Jets, Robert Sala with the old, you know, the best teams coach themselves and not really getting
02:01his hands dirty enough with the offense, maybe.
02:03And then having Aaron Rodgers come in.
02:05There's just a litany of mistakes.
02:06But Aaron Glenn in year one saw a complete failure with him kind of probably getting that culture shock of
02:12what it's like being a CEO and then realized, let me just strip this down and get back to why
02:16did I get hired?
02:18What made me, like, approachable as a head coach?
02:21The Jets weren't the only team interested in him.
02:23And that was, he was a great defensive mind.
02:25And he allowed his defense to become borderline atrocious.
02:28They didn't get a turnover last year.
02:29Atrocious.
02:31And he basically said, you know, he was detached, not all the way, but he should have done it earlier
02:35and should have got his hands dirty.
02:36The problem is when you start going to sit in your ivory tower and look at everything, you just, you're
02:41disconnected.
02:42Yeah, you lose sight of it all.
02:43And I.
02:44You don't get it.
02:44You don't understand even what you're trying to do.
02:47That answer gives me hope that the Jets, even if this gets off to a bad start and they're just
02:53maybe the talent isn't there or the quarterback itself, that's not Aaron Glenn's fault, isn't very good.
02:58And he's turning the ball over a million times.
03:00Is that really going to be an indictment on whether Aaron Glenn could be a head coach or not for
03:04the New York Jets?
03:04Should we maybe think twice before we're putting out our first coach to be fired if this team starts one
03:09and six?
03:09Are we really pulling the ripcord right away?
03:11Because that right there is an answer from a man who understands and acknowledges you shouldn't wait too long to
03:17make changes.
03:18You know, this time is fleeting as a head coach in the NFL.
03:22And he saw in year one and is acknowledging year one where he went wrong.
03:26He wasn't too stubborn in saying, well, you know, you don't understand this or that.
03:30Like, no offense.
03:31That answer is the opposite of any time you hear Aaron Boone speak.
03:34And I love Aaron Boone, but like Aaron Boone is never that self-deprecating.
03:38I just appreciated it.
03:40And I agree.
03:41I agree.
03:41I'm a Jet fan and I'm ahead of year one.
03:43Again, I have my doubts about the offense.
03:46Not that the players.
03:46I just I don't trust the quarterback situation.
03:48But defensively with all these young guys on defense and what they're doing.
03:52I mean, Aaron Glenn's certainly going to go down swinging with the way he wants to handle it.
