00:00You know you've done him wrong or whatever so you were out and I did some we had moments like
00:05that and but I have to say in retrospect that he honestly tried so hard and went through so much
00:14with me and I know now and I look back at he's never done that with any other female or
00:18anyone as much as we went through and when we hit rough waters and we would and we would argue
00:23three-day arguments sometimes taking a break to eat and sleep.
00:26You know I'd have to say that I really admire that he really gave it a good shot. You know
00:34I didn't appreciate it then and I wish I did.
00:38Coming up Lisa tells me about the last time she spoke to Michael Jackson.
00:49BC7.
00:55Did he have to die for you to recognize that he loved you?
01:03I think so sadly.
01:06Is that the first time you recognized or believed that he truly loved you after he died?
01:13I think yes.
01:17Sweeping answer would be yes.
01:19When we were together we were really in love and then we had the rough patches and then I had
01:25to make a decision to walk because I saw that the drugs and the doctors were coming in and they
01:30scared me and put me right back into what I went through with my father.
01:33So I that ended it and then we again we're going to get back together for we spent four more
01:40years after we divorced getting back together and breaking up and talking about getting back together and breaking up.
01:47And at some point I had to push it away because it was just not it's just I wasn't moving
01:54forward I'm with myself.
01:56So you still loved him even when you left him?
01:58Very much.
02:00I left him to put in my to sort of stomp my foot into the ground and go I was
02:07trying to take a stand and say come with me don't do this and I was a stupid move because
02:12he didn't and he was just you know he's a stubborn I'm stubborn he's stubborn the two of us it
02:19was like you know.
02:20Don't make a dare you're not willing to follow through on right so I made a stupid move and and
02:25I actually afterwards you know he and I were still you know I I was flying all over the world
02:33still with him for years to follow.
02:36When was the last time you spoke to him?
02:39Coherently good conversation was in 2005 it was a very long conversation and I was so removed from him and
02:48he could feel it and he could hear it and I think that's one of the things that killed me
02:52in the end too was that I was very distanced and he was checking to get a read you know
02:57he was trying to throw a line out to see if I would bite emotionally and I wouldn't I was
03:02pretty shut off at that point.
03:04And I don't even know how I managed to be like that but I was and he was asking me
03:08he wanted to tell me that he that I was right about a lot of the people around him and
03:13that it had panned out to be exactly what he and I had talked about years ago and he asked
03:20if I still loved him and we went into a whole thing about that and I told him I was
03:24indifferent and he didn't like that word and he cried and he was just trying to find out where I
03:29was at and how I could become so detached and then the
03:33The final part of the conversation was him telling me that he felt that someone was going to try and
03:40kill him to get a hold of his catalog and his estate and I really didn't know what to do
03:47with that so he actually gave you names he did and I would like not to say them but he
03:54expressed to me his concern over his life
04:01Coming up as you stood over his casket where you were able to make peace
04:16You know I asked you this and I have to ask it again even though it's an uncomfortable subject but
04:23when you were on the show the first time I think I asked you this whether you had ever seen
04:29any inappropriate behavior between Michael Jackson and young children
04:36Are you asking me again? I'm asking you again
04:38The answer is absolutely not in any way
04:43I did not see anything like that
04:45So by 2005 I think when he was on trial for the second charge
04:50Right
04:50Your feelings at that time were what?
04:53Did he ever talk to you about it?
04:55He was calling me about it and I said
04:58Please keep your head together please
05:00If this goes to trial please hold it together
05:03And he said what are you talking about? What do you mean? And I said he said you mean drugs?
05:06I said yes
05:07Because all I saw you know there was a few year period there where he was the random things were
05:11coming out
05:12Whether it was a Martin Bashir interview or various interviews and in those interviews. I saw him
05:18Intoxicated I didn't see Michael that I knew in that Martin Bashir and of you guys like he was high
05:23as a kite from what I saw and from what I knew
05:25Really? He was either too speedy or he was sedated
05:29It wasn't the Michael that I knew
05:31The shocking things
05:32He said some pretty shocking things in that Martin Bashir interview
05:35Particularly
05:37About how he felt
05:38It was okay to sleep with young children
05:41I think he said that stuff sometimes to be defiant
05:44Because he got so angry at that
05:47Having been accused
05:48I think that sometimes he was such a little stubborn rebel sometimes and he was like a child and he
05:53would just say
05:53What he felt everyone didn't want him to say mm-hmm. I don't feel like he was I had a
05:58straight head
06:00During those things and I think that they were edited in a very very manipulative nasty
06:07Way so you never saw anything and
06:11To this day you don't believe that any of those charges were true. No, I mean I can
06:16I honestly cannot say the only people that are ever going to be able to honestly say the truth or
06:21him and whoever was in the room at the time of whatever
06:24Allegedly took place. I was never in that room. It would be unfair for me to
06:28I can tell you I never saw anything like that
06:32Have you now made peace
06:35With his death I know you watch the
06:39Funeral that we all saw on television and I know that you went to the private
06:44Funeral ceremony. What was that like standing in the room with his casket?
06:53That was
06:59Really another six months of
07:02More to recover from I think
07:05But you know I was the last one standing with him
07:10and
07:13That was what do you mean last one standing well most people have left and I went back in and
07:18I was alone with him
07:20Standing over him, you know, I didn't want to leave him
07:24so
07:26As you stood over his casket
07:29I know it's you know, it's there's probably nothing more
07:33You know personal or private
07:37Than those those moments as you stood over that casket where you
07:42You are able to make peace
07:45um
07:47No, I don't think I could make peace then I think that I more a pop I wanted to apologize
07:52more was like
07:56I
07:56I felt like I wanted to apologize for
07:59Not being around
08:02You know
08:03Do you think you could have saved him?
08:04God, that's such a hard question
08:07um
08:09Naively, I want to say
08:12I know that it's naive to think that I could have but I wanted to
08:16Could I have had I made a call had I stopped being so
08:21shut off from him
08:23had I just said how are you can I
08:26tried to make a phone call you know I really did regret that I didn't
08:31Do you think that
08:34Family and friends let him down
08:39Do you think that somebody could have done something
08:41I think that they tried and I and I and sadly
08:46um
08:47Like I said if he didn't want you run if you were going to make him confront something
08:50He didn't want to confront he can make it go away including his own family
08:52And they got on the opposite side of that I think that was a train headed in a certain direction
08:58that
08:59I don't know if anyone could have stopped and I and I've had to really get my head around that
09:03in order to stop the
09:04the pain for yourself
09:06And how is this for
09:20Your current husband who seems like a really loving
09:25generous
09:27supportive
09:29Man
09:30How is it for him with all this michael stuff coming up?
09:33He's so happy. I'll be done with this interview
09:35He's just like I want you to just exercise this and get it out because I've been
09:40You know, he's had to hear it for so long
09:43He's never good for the current husband to have to hear about the ex-husband a lot. No, it's not
09:48It's not no and I understand that
09:49But he also understands he's the most understanding person I've ever met in my life
09:53And I'm I've never you know
09:55I thank god because he's really allowed me to go through whatever I need to go through with this
09:59Which I know would be highly highly unusual and it's a lot to ask for
10:03of him
10:04And I don't feel good about it
10:05But it's something that came down came down on me that I've had to I've had to deal with and
10:10I've been doing it
10:11Because all these michael feelings were repressed and buried when you started
10:15Dating michael lockwood exactly you said earlier
10:20That the universe god you don't understand is trying to teach you something obviously
10:27Because of the parallels between your father elvis presley's life and michael jackson's life now
10:34with over
10:36a year after michael's
10:39death and
10:4133 years since your father passed
10:44What do you think the lesson is for you?
10:48I
10:49feel really alone in that i've gone through this
10:51With these incredible people like this and I feel really honored at the same time
10:57And with michael's death is it for you like a lot of people still his birthday
11:04The anniversary of his death all of those are still hard days
11:10They are but it's been happening all my life
11:12August 16th i've dreaded my whole life which has been you know the death of your father right and now
11:18you know
11:20It's doing 25th, so
11:21You said that you when we talked about doing this interview you said i'm going to do it one time
11:26Yes
11:27So this is it you're not going to talk about it anymore
11:29No, i'm not i'm not going to talk about it
11:31Anyone wants to know in future they can
11:34Refer to the oprah winfrey show
11:36Thank you thanks for letting me have the time really well thank you and for opening up about it
11:41Not an easy thing to do thank you
