01:14McCartney's new album, Pipes of Peace,
01:16has reunited him with former Beatles producer George Martin.
01:19Their collaboration last year on Tug of War
01:22was their first album together since Abbey Road in 1969.
01:25When the Beatles broke up, I wanted to get away from all of that.
01:28And there was this feeling that we had to prove we could sort of do it on our own.
01:33Like a kind of divorce, divorce feeling.
01:35I've never been divorced, but I imagine that kind of thing
01:37where you think, oh, the hell with it.
01:39You know, I want to do it on my own and stuff.
01:41So, none of us really seemed to want to work with George.
01:45He was part of the Beatles scene.
01:47But the relationship between artist and producer has changed.
01:50McCartney is now considered the most successful songwriter in history,
01:54a long way from the polite young man eager to please, eager to land a hit.
01:58Our first sessions, we came down, we came into this bit of the studio,
02:02never allowed in that bit, the control room.
02:04We came in, in fact, we often didn't know who was in that bit.
02:07We just came in here, in sort of voice, disembodied voice,
02:10said, all right, I took one.
02:12And you just do it, you know, it's frightened out your wits.
02:14And then you do it, is that all right, sir?
02:16I said, yes.
02:17You go to the pub.
02:18That was it.
02:19And you waited until they'd ring you up and say,
02:20we've decided that She Loves You will be a good single,
02:23and we're going to put it out then.
02:35It's been 20 years since She Loves You changed the sound of popular music.
02:39While much has been written about those days,
02:41one recent book, The Love You Make, was not at all appreciated.
02:44The Peter Brown book wasn't too clever,
02:46because it was a sort of betrayal, really, in my eyes.
02:53We thought we had a bit of friendship,
02:56but I think it was a betrayal.
03:00As far as I was concerned, as far as Ringo was concerned,
03:03as far as a lot of people concerned with the book,
03:04because we thought we all let him into our houses
03:06and kind of talked freely,
03:08assuming that he was such a mate that he would just go and do something
03:10that would be okay and kind of thing.
03:12But he just started doing what everyone does when they're after a book.

03:17McCartney talks about personal happiness and fame.
03:20That kind of elevated position where you get there,
03:23and there's nothing there.
03:25I'd rather not be there.
03:26I'd rather just come back a little bit.
