00:02Today, all new, for the first time, this family comes forward, their 25-year secret relationship with Michael Jackson.
00:11In the middle of the night, sometimes he'd just knock at the door.
00:14How did you all keep this a secret?
00:17Unseen, home video, unheard recordings, the controversy.
00:20Michael's longtime producer.
00:22Why do you say for sure it is him?
00:25Next.
00:26Michael Jackson was the biggest pop superstar in the world.
00:31He couldn't go anywhere without being hunted by the paparazzi, which makes today's story all the more intriguing.
00:37Michael Jackson had a secret hideaway at a home in a New Jersey suburb with a family whose name you've
00:45probably never heard before today.
00:47Michael recorded songs in their basement and had been regularly visiting their home for 25 years.
00:55And almost nobody knew about it.
00:57The family is here for their first interview with brand new, unreleased music and personal home video of their time
01:05with Michael.
01:07We're going to talk with them in just a few moments.
01:13So, also making news is the controversy surrounding the release of a new Michael Jackson album titled Michael, with 10
01:22never-before-heard songs recorded before his death.
01:24Now, this is the Casio family.
01:26They have been reluctant to come here today, afraid that they might be betraying a friendship that they've held so
01:33privately and dearly for over 25 years.
01:37That is how long they have had a secret relationship with the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
01:44He called them his second family.
01:46And they've written music together, have personal home videos, and endless memories with a man who was a mystery to
01:55most of us.
01:56Here is how it all started.
01:58Well, when I first met Michael Jackson, I was working at the Hemsley Palace Hotel.
02:03I used to manage all the suites in the apartments, and that's where he normally stayed.
02:09Michael asked me if I was married, if I had any kids, and that one day he would love to
02:16meet them.
02:16He was wonderful, and he treated him as he was part of our family, and that he was not the
02:23king of pop, but just a human being.
02:25He always called us the family of love, my second family.
02:29Mm-hmm.
02:30Attack!
02:31Oh!
02:31Oh!
02:33Michael!
02:34What did you call it to?
02:35We grew up with him literally since he was three and I was five, and so being around him was
02:42just normal.
02:43He really just was so humble and then never really played off on the fact that he was, you know,
02:48this Michael Jackson.
02:49You know, he was just Michael.
02:51He was just our friend.
02:56I used to cook all his favorite food.
02:58I knew exactly what he loved, and I would make it for him.
03:03I even would make him homemade pizza, and, you know, he loved it.
03:08Turkey dinners.
03:09He loved it, and turkey dinners.
03:11Mashed potatoes, stuffing.
03:12Thanksgiving dinner every day.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And he did love his sweets.
03:16Well, he, the candy counter, he kind of introduced us to, you know, at Neverland, he always had the candy
03:21counter.
03:21One of the first times he came here, he was like, where's your candy counter?
03:25And he made us go out and get...
03:27Everyone had a candy counter.
03:28Yeah, and my father went out and got boxes and boxes of all different types of candy that Michael loved.
03:33And we actually placed it, you know, over there.
03:36And then he was like, okay, you got the candy counter, we're good.
03:39Just like hanging out?
03:41Everywhere, yeah.
03:42He'd hang out just like this, just, you know, just standing around the counter and talking.
03:47And, you know, when there was...
03:48He took my garbage out one night.
03:50Yeah.
03:50Yeah.
03:51Yeah.
03:52He loved doing things like that.
03:53Yeah, he loved doing things like that.
03:55Helped her vacuum.
03:56He loved cleaning the house.
03:57Yeah, he tried to clean up the house.
03:59His way of cleaning it.
04:00Yeah, it was funny because he would just come up and enjoy family dinners and just be part
04:07of the family.
04:07He would always make sure that before every meal that we always, we say our prayers and
04:12say grace and, you know, and even afterwards we'd have sit-downs and we'd all go through
04:17and, you know, just talk about what we're thankful for.
04:20And, you know, those type of memories that we all have are just, they're really priceless,
04:25you know, because that was Michael.
04:29Connie and Dominic Cascio and their children, Eddie, Frank, and Marie Nicole have never spoken
04:35publicly about their relationship with Michael until today.
04:38Eddie has known Michael since he was a toddler.
04:40That was Eddie playing the piano in the home video that we just saw over the years.
04:46Michael mentored Eddie and taught him the ropes about music.
04:50And in just a few moments for the first time, we're going to hear a few of the songs that
04:53Eddie produced and wrote with Michael Jackson before he died.
04:59So why did, why did you want to be here, Eddie?
05:01Well, I felt, uh, it was important to show the world who Michael really was, especially
05:09to us as a family.
05:11Well, you were just a little boy when he first came to the house.
05:14I have to ask your mother, Connie, what in the world did you think when your husband said
05:18Michael Jackson was dropping by?
05:21Well, you know, um, Michael never, um, made an announcement when he was coming.
05:26He would just show up at the door and we were like, in the middle of the night,
05:31sometimes he'd just knock at the door and I'd wake up the kids.
05:34If you noticed, they were all in their pajamas when they were playing and half asleep.
05:38How did you all keep this a secret all these years?
05:42Michael was very private and he felt that, uh, he saw the warmth and how we respected
05:50Michael for who he was and now he just didn't want us to be that family that goes out and,
05:56you know, talks about Michael Jackson, you know, and we never did that.
06:00We wanted to give Michael that opportunity to know that we weren't there to, um, for who
06:08he was as a celebrity, that we were really there to be a family for him and to get him
06:13through all his bad times that he's been through.
06:17Um, cause we, we knew him before the bad times and when the bad times came, uh, we-
06:23Bad times you meaning charges of sexual molestation?
06:26Right.
06:26We weren't going to turn our backs on him and we stood there and we said, we're going to,
06:30we're with you all the way and I, and he appreciated and we did it.
06:35Well, I have to, you, I have to ask the questions because obviously there were bad times, uh,
06:42accused of sexual molestation.
06:43Mm-hmm.
06:44You had two young boys.
06:46Mm-hmm.
06:46A young daughter.
06:47Did you ever ask your children if any improprieties had occurred with them?
06:52Uh, as a father I did.
06:54As a father you did.
06:55And they looked at me like, are you serious?
06:58Uh-huh.
06:59I mean, human?
06:59But I had to do it.
07:01Uh-huh.
07:01We had to explain it to him, the kids, what was going on.
07:04They didn't understand it.
07:05At the time.
07:06Right.
07:06So I have to ask you, Frank, Marie, Nicole, uh, did, were there ever any improprieties?
07:13Never.
07:14With you and Michael Jackson?
07:15Never.
07:16Michael couldn't, he couldn't harm, he couldn't harm a fly.
07:20I mean, uh, he's, he's such a kind and gentle soul.
07:24So when you heard those charges and heard those charges then again and he went on trial
07:29for those charges, what did you think?
07:30You know, this is, this is ridiculous.
07:33It's ridiculous.
07:33Terrible.
07:33You know, Michael was a target and unfortunately he was targeted.
07:38So at no time did you ever feel during all of those charges against him that, that your
07:43children were not safe with him?
07:45Never.
07:45Never.
07:46Uh-huh.
07:47Never, never a doubt.
07:49Did he continue to come to your home and be with your family after he had his own children?
07:53Yeah.
07:53Oh, yes.
07:54Oh, absolutely.
07:55We were there when the kids were born and we were there.
07:59I mean, and he was so happy and we, you know, and.
08:02Like physically there?
08:04Yeah, physically there.
08:05Mm-hmm.
08:05And, uh.
08:06Would he bring the children to your house?
08:08Absolutely.
08:09Yeah.
08:09Absolutely.
08:09He trusted no one but us to even like, he wouldn't leave the kids with no one but other
08:14than the nanny.
08:15And, uh, and we were the other family that he left the kids with.
08:18Mm-hmm.
08:20We will be right back.
08:21Where have y'all been?
08:22We'll be right back.
08:30We'll be right back.
08:45And there are some more.
08:45A little bit more.
08:49And my husband would be right back here.
08:50I had been studying, uh, piano since the age of four and my brother as well.
08:55And, as we grew up we would play for Michael and I learned, we all both learned, pretty
08:59much all of Michael's songs.
09:24black, dark curtains,
09:26all die Richtung,
09:27mit einem Flatscreen TV.
09:29So, er hat, so he hat, like, his little cave.
09:31Right here, we had,
09:32it wasn't this dance floor,
09:33but we had a regular wooden dance floor put in
09:37just for him.
09:38He was training.
09:39Every morning, he'd dance.
09:40And I would be right here next to him dancing.
09:42Years later, fast forward to,
09:46I would say,
09:47the beginning of 07,
09:49he came ready to work.
09:50And that's what we did.
09:52We spent long hours working in the studio,
09:55recording.
09:58The vocals were done actually right in this room.
10:01I think, you know,
10:02Michael would be very excited right now
10:05that the music that he was doing for his fans,
10:08that they're finally going to get a chance to hear it.
10:10Keep your head up.
10:11Keepin' your head up to the sky.
10:15Keepin' your mind to stay.
10:17That was an exclusive preview of the new song,
10:20Keep Your Head Up,
10:21produced and written by Michael Jackson
10:23and Eddie Cascio,
10:25who's sitting here right now.
10:26The new album, Michael,
10:28is out on December 14th.
10:29What do you think is the most important thing
10:31he actually taught you?
10:33Just to always be true to who you are.
10:36Be humble.
10:37Be grateful for everything.
10:40And never stop seeking knowledge.
10:43He was a perfectionist.
10:44Oh, absolutely.
10:45Yeah.
10:46Did he always look like Michael Jackson?
10:48I mean, like,
10:49you sit with the epaulettes,
10:50and he's always,
10:51did he ever, like,
10:52come in a pair of sweats?
10:53Actually, Michael,
10:54Michael,
10:54Michael was...
10:55Did he wear pajamas?
10:56Michael, yeah.
10:58Oprah.
10:58All day.
10:59He looked,
10:59he always looked,
11:00he was always ahead of his time
11:02when it came to fashion in public.
11:04Okay.
11:04Especially when he wore the pajamas in the house,
11:06walking around.
11:07And the funny thing is,
11:09he'd wear pajamas
11:09with, like, a T-shirt,
11:11and then he'd have a nice blazer.
11:12Right.
11:12So he'd always,
11:13he'd always have something,
11:14he would always have, right,
11:15he would always have something
11:16that, that, that you saw,
11:18oh, that's Michael.
11:19Now, with the blazer,
11:20or with the, you know,
11:21the iconic, uh,
11:22the armband and everything.
11:24Did your family benefit in any way
11:26from the association
11:27other than the love that you felt for him?
11:29I mean, did he buy you lavish gifts
11:31or, you know,
11:33Rolls Royces, cars?
11:35No.
11:35Well,
11:36there was never any lavish gifts.
11:38There was always,
11:39Chris,
11:39we celebrated holidays,
11:40Christmases together,
11:41so there's always Christmas presents.
11:43Mm-hmm.
11:43But we also gave him Christmas presents.
11:45Mm-hmm.
11:45And he loved them.
11:47That was,
11:47we, we...
11:48Because I thought
11:48that he was a Jehovah's Witness
11:50and his religion
11:50didn't celebrate holidays.
11:52But he,
11:52he celebrated Christmas.
11:54He always loved Christmas,
11:55receiving gifts
11:56and giving gifts.
11:57Mm-hmm.
11:57And that's what he did.
11:58Okay,
11:59what do we actually get Michael
12:01for Christmas?
12:01you could say.
12:03Well,
12:03Michael,
12:04he loved books.
12:05Oh, good.
12:06Just buying books
12:08and art.
12:09He loved art.
12:10A lot of Disney stuff.
12:11He loved Michelangelo.
12:13Mm-hmm.
12:13He truly loved,
12:15always talked to me
12:16about Michelangelo.
12:16Mm-hmm.
12:17I hear you spoke to him
12:18three days before he died.
12:20Mm-hmm.
12:20Yeah.
12:20He called us at home
12:21on Father's Day
12:22to wish us
12:23Happy Father's Day.
12:24Mm-hmm.
12:25And, uh...
12:26We wished him
12:26a Happy Father's Day.
12:27Coincidentally,
12:27we were all in my house.
12:28Mm-hmm.
12:29So he got to talk
12:30to all the family.
12:30All of us.
12:31Mm-hmm.
12:31I mean,
12:31it's a,
12:32sometime when we think about that.
12:34Were you aware?
12:35Did you all see signs
12:36of drug addiction?
12:38We didn't see the signs.
12:40When he was at home,
12:41he was a normal person.
12:44Mm-hmm.
12:45What would you say, Eddie?
12:47He was sharp.
12:48It was unfortunate
12:49to learn of, you know,
12:53the so-called problem
12:54or addiction problem
12:55that we now know
12:58he suffered from.
12:59You know,
12:59unfortunately,
13:00it got the best of him.
13:01Mm-hmm.
13:01Did he...
13:04Everybody who's known him
13:05says that he had
13:06a chronic problem sleeping.
13:07Did you...
13:08Yes, because he's coming
13:09to your house
13:09in the middle of the night?
13:10Well, we knew that,
13:12but I'll tell you,
13:13he slept at our house.
13:15Because he really
13:16really did relax
13:17and sleep at my house.
13:19I mean,
13:20I...
13:21It's just amazing.
13:22I guess he felt like
13:23he can really just
13:25feel secure...
13:26...and separate
13:27from everything else.
13:29Um,
13:29we did a lot of family things
13:32to get his mind off of,
13:33I guess,
13:34the superstar that he was.
13:45Mm-hmm.
13:46that we all have,
13:47and we all mention his name
13:49all day,
13:50at least once a day,
13:51we mention,
13:52because we actually
13:52can feel him
13:53in our home.
13:56Michael and Eddie
13:57recorded 12 songs
13:58in the Casio's basement.
14:00They are locked in a vault,
14:01and we're hearing
14:02three of them today.
14:03Eddie,
14:04there have been
14:04some questions,
14:05you know,
14:05about, first of all,
14:07that this is people saying
14:08that this isn't Michael's voice.
14:09Yes.
14:09You know that.
14:10What can you tell us
14:11about that?
14:12I can tell you
14:13that it is Michael's voice.
14:15He recorded right there
14:16in my basement.
14:17In that little room
14:18with the mat on the floor?
14:20Yep.
14:20Mm-hmm.
14:21So sophisticated.
14:22I was, yeah.
14:23It was sophisticated studios there.
14:25Yeah,
14:26it was a home studio,
14:27and, you know,
14:29we worked.
14:30I was there pushing the buttons.
14:31He was right there directing,
14:34and he,
14:35that's Michael Jackson.
14:37As we go to break,
14:38here's another exclusive track
14:40called Monster Written,
14:41and produced by Eddie
14:42Cassio and Michael Jackson.
14:44Eddie says this is one
14:45that Michael would have
14:46gotten up and danced to.
14:47Take a listen.
14:48Hollywood
14:50Just look in the mirror
14:52And tell me you like
14:55Don't you,
14:56Don't you like it?
14:57Monster
14:59He's a monster
15:01He's an animal
15:05Coming up,
15:07why some say
15:07Michael's new CD
15:08should never have been released.
15:10Would Michael have liked
15:11the heat, though.
15:12Did he like the controversy?
15:15Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
