00:01uh for a british uh bitter british pale ale um it is surprisingly smooth it has that little bit of
00:08tang hey it's adam 12 weekday mornings from 5 30 to 10 on 1057 wror uh co-hosting the
00:18ror morning show with lbf and ripping off lbf for my weekly uh edition of can check i mean
00:24ripping off in the way that for a while now lbf has uh been giving you bottoms up a weekly
00:30cocktail mixing segment that she does with uh dave falcone um obviously if i mixed cocktails that
00:36would be completely ripping her off so i just decided to pivot to beer instead uh and as you
00:41can see i am on location for this week's edition of can check as i will be for probably the
00:46remainder
00:46of the summer all of the episodes you'll see i will be from wells beach maine uh that's the web
00:51river marsh you see in the background the web planet river itself is uh on its ebb right now
00:56as the tide goes out um but i wanted to take a moment and share a little bit of history
01:01uh and
01:02personal history with this wonderful place in maine i've been coming here since i was a kid wells
01:08beach maine my parents have been coming here since they were kids um and going back about 20 years or
01:14so uh the tradition was when we would get up here on a saturday for our week vacation my father
01:19and my
01:20brother and i uh would go to tully's wine and spirits right there at the wells plaza um and uh
01:25fortunately that is no more but larry uh the former tully's employee now so it's larry's wine and
01:30spirits so the tradition continues um but tully's always did a great job of having all of the go-to
01:35beers but then also stocking some interesting stuff and again about 20 years ago my brother on a whim
01:41picked up a four pack of what's called old speckled hen uh this is a bitter british pale ale
01:49named after a british car called the mg featherlight saloon uh it's a car that had a wooden frame
01:55covered in old speckled black paint uh and so you know in british you'd say oh that's the old
02:01speckleden sorry that's not a very good british accent that became old speckled hen uh this bitter
02:07british pale ale brewed by currently by green king brewery uh which was a a pub and brewery founded in
02:131799 in suffolk england but again my brother saw a four pack of this at tully's and said that looks
02:19pretty cool i'm gonna pick it up and now it's become an annual vacation coif for the 12 family
02:25at wells beach um i'm also going to shout out another member of my family my uncle neil who when
02:32he drinks beer drinks it out of a small glass i don't know why the man does this perhaps i'll
02:39have
02:39them on a future edition of can check but i've got my little glass uh with a little bit of
02:45creamy head
02:46forming at the top of course if i poured a full can into the full pint glass uh it would
02:50be a much
02:51different experience but you can let me know in the comments what you think about the uh drinking
02:56beer out of a small glass trend that's not actually a trend it's just something that my uncle does
03:00uh or you can get mad at me for not pouring the old speckleden into a proper pint glass
03:05as perhaps i should have uh for a british uh bitter british pale ale um it is surprisingly smooth
03:13it has that little bit of tang on the back of the tongue um but it's really smooth and really
03:19really
03:19easy to drink and really enjoyable that we have again a go-to summer beer for the 12 family that
03:27is a
03:28british pale ale because you don't usually think of that with the beach um i'll walk you through some
03:33more of what we like to drink in wells beach in a future edition of can check uh make sure
03:37you're
03:37following our or our morning show on all of your socials and uh cheers to the old speckleden
