Transcript
00:00Now, I'm drinking Golden Tornado right now, so tell me a little bit about Golden Tornado.
00:03Hey, it's Adam Twelve from the ROR Morning Show with my very first edition of what I'm calling
00:08Can Check with Adam Twelve, even though technically we're not holding cans here.
00:12But that's okay.
00:13Yeah, I guess they're not, but it's okay.
00:14It has beer inside, and that's the important part.
00:16Introduce yourself to the people, please.
00:18Hi, everyone.
00:19I'm Chris Tkach.
00:20I am a co-founder of Idle Hands Craft Ales.
00:23We've been in business for 15 years now, right?
00:26My wife and I started off as a little tiny brewery over in Everett, and we've grown.
00:30We're in Malden now.
00:31I've been there for 10 years, creating a lot of delicious beers and having a lot of fun.
00:37Is 2026 your 10-year anniversary year?
00:39It is.
00:3910 years in Malden, yes.
00:42The Tap Room in Malden.
00:43I've told you this before, Chris, and this is why I'm starting the series with you.
00:46Yours is my favorite.
00:47Don't tell any of the other breweries that will be featured in future episodes of Can Check
00:52with Adam Twelve.
00:52But it's like, okay, so real quick story.
00:55My father is one of five, and his mother, my grandmother, over the course of each child's
01:00life, took them aside at one point and said, don't tell your brothers and sister this,
01:04or in my Aunt Kim's case, don't tell your brothers this, but you're my favorite.
01:08And then the best thing about setting that time bomb is it goes off at a different time
01:12in each kid's life.
01:13Two siblings get in a fight.
01:15Well, mom told me that I was her favorite.
01:17What do you mean?
01:17She told me I was her favorite.
01:19But anyway, you're my favorite.
01:21Idle Hands is my favorite.
01:21All right.
01:22What do you have going on in the Tap Room lately?
01:23Oh, man.
01:24We got a bunch of things.
01:25You know, we have our 10-year anniversary in Malden coming up at the end of the month.
01:29Then we roll into a bunch of beer gardens up here in Melrose, culminating with our Oktoberfest,
01:38which is really our 15-year anniversary.
01:41We kind of celebrate them.
01:43Excellent.
01:43And that's the second week in September.
01:45Now, I'm drinking Golden Tornado right now.
01:47So tell me a little bit about Golden Tornado.
01:48So this is a fun little beer that we've done really for Malden.
01:52You know, Golden Tornadoes is the Malden mascot.
01:54Yep.
01:56Easy drinking Golden Ale.
01:58We'll try to create this as a less expensive option in the Tap Room and also to go.
02:03So we sell these in big 16-ounce six-packs for, I don't know, I think it's like $14 or
02:09something like that.
02:09Affordable.
02:09Very affordable.
02:11Just a nice, easy-drinking beer, especially for the summertime.
02:14What was the first beer that you served when you opened the Tap Room 10 years ago?
02:18Do you remember?
02:19Or one of them?
02:20Because I'm sure you had three or four scenes.
02:21I would have to say Pro-Am, which is still a BOE brew today.
02:26Okay.
02:26It just has a different name.
02:27Okay.
02:27So it's called Farmhouse Pale right now.
02:30And yeah, it's been with us for 10 years.
02:32When did you start brewing beer?
02:34Personally?
02:34Yeah, personally.
02:35Oh, man.
02:35I started brewing when I was 21.
02:37Yeah.
02:37Maybe even 20.
02:38Okay.
02:39Oh, yeah, right.
02:40I got a little homebrew kit from my uncle for Christmas one year and kind of sat in the
02:44corner for a couple of months while I was living in college with a bunch of college roommates
02:49and took it out one day and made some terrible beer.
02:52But it didn't matter.
02:53It's free alcohol out of them.
02:55Right?
02:56It got better, though.
02:56I was going to say, the beer is certainly not terrible anymore.
02:59And I say this, and I've said it to you before, so I'm saying it honestly.
03:02I'm not making this up for the bit.
03:04But I've tried pretty much everything that you guys have served in your taproom, and I've
03:08never had anything I haven't liked.
03:10There have certainly been things I've liked more than others.
03:11Absolutely.
03:12But even if I were to rank all of them, everything that I've tried at Idle Hands has been something
03:16that I've enjoyed.
03:16That's great.
03:17Great to hear, man.
03:18Cheers to that.
03:18Cheers to 10 years of Idle Hands, and cheers to the first episode of Can Check, or in this
03:23case, I guess, Pint Check, with Adam12 on the ROR Morning Show.
03:27Make sure you're following ROR Morning Show on Instagram and Facebook, and also make sure
03:31that you stay tuned for LBF and her Bottoms Up feature, which is forthcoming.
03:36Cheers.
03:36Cheers.
