03:20you know, NFL starts tonight with the Hall of Fame game.
03:22But we were talking yesterday about what are some of the big storylines
03:27in the NFL heading into the season.
03:30You know, is Patrick Mahomes going to be back to his old self
03:34after he heals completely from the injury?
03:36Is Deshaun Watson, does he have an act two in him?
03:40Like, there's some questions.
03:41For college football season, what are some of the big storylines
03:46we were mentioning early in the show?
03:48Arch Manning, I'm guessing there's still a storyline there, right?
03:51Did we see enough at the end of last season to say,
03:54hey, Arch Manning's worth a number one pick,
03:56or he's a generational talent, or we need to see more?
03:59Well, I think with Texas, can Arch lead them to the playoffs
04:03and deepen the playoffs and have a shot at a national championship.
04:08You know, I think obviously LSU and Lane Kiffin,
04:11the news at the end of the season, him leaving Ole Miss,
04:14going to LSU and all that.
04:17And, you know, heck, Congress is trying to create a bill,
04:20and part of that is the Lane Kiffin rule.
04:22You can't leave when your team's got games in it.
04:25And he's got a quarterback.
04:27He's got a stud quarterback who I really like,
04:29the kid Leavitt from Arizona State.
04:31So he's a talented player.
04:33I think with college football is now with the transfer portal is how quickly
04:38do these guys come together?
04:40It's not like when Channing and I went to a school,
04:42you're minimum three years there, maybe five,
04:45and you come together, you're boys with your boys,
04:48and you know what, you grow up with each other,
04:50and then you become a great team together.
04:53How quickly can they, you know, even UM, you know,
04:57how quickly does Mensa take the reins in a new offense?
05:02You know, and I think that that's kind of a curious thing with college football now
05:08is how have people navigated the portal,
05:12and how do they fill the missing pieces?
05:15Because, you know, in the past it used to be, oh, okay,
05:18Miami lost our quarterback.
05:19We're starting a guy that hasn't played.
05:22He's going to be a registered sophomore.
05:24He's talented, but he hadn't played.
05:26Well, that's not like that anymore.
05:28Now we've got a guy that, you know, lit it up at Duke
05:30and won the conference last year.
05:33So I think that that's the big change with college.
05:38The pro, I like the pro part of this.
05:41Funny is like, you know, re-ranking these quarterbacks.
05:44Like I read something, they put Lamar Jackson
05:47in the middle tier of the league.
05:48I'm just like, I just shake my head at some of this BS

05:58There's a lot of teams, including if I was running one,

07:59Even though they lost, like you can see that he can spin that thing.
08:02Who is, in your mind, going and saying at Ohio State,
08:05who's the number one ranked in the coaches poll, who is that guy to you?
08:09Who is that guy going in that has to not prove himself,
08:12but he has to stay at number one?
08:16Well, I think saying, you know, as a registered freshman to get to the finalists
08:21for the Heisman, and then he's got arguably the best player,
08:26for sure the best all-around receiver in college football,
08:32he's got to have a season.
08:34And I think Leavitt, I think he's shown flashes where you're just like,
08:38wow, this kid's got all the talent in the world.
08:40And, you know, for whatever reason, he got dinged up or, you know,
08:44didn't put it together.
08:45I think Arch, though, I think with Texas, it's more of the team's success
08:50because Texas is not short on cash and players.
08:55So I think they're loaded.
08:59The tough part, I mean, you know, get through the SEC.
09:01It's like, okay, when are you banged up?
09:04Are you banged up and then you've got to go, you know,
09:06play Georgia on the road?
09:08And then that's a tough hold.
09:10Are you banged up and then you've got to play, you know,
09:13kind of the lower part of the conference, like a Mississippi State or something?
09:17So I think that's the hard part with the SEC.
09:21And, you know, that's why all these conference commissions –
09:24well, that's why the Big Ten, they want to expand the playoff to 24
09:27so they get four of their crappy teams in every year.
09:29Man, the Big Ten.
09:34They got a couple championships, you know,
09:36now they're talking about the SEC is nothing.

09:39More recently than the SEC.
09:41I never get into the conference debate.
09:43I'm like going, okay, you've got the best team in the country.
09:46It doesn't mean you have the best conference from top to bottom.
09:49I mean, not so long ago, the Big Ten was the big two
09:54and it was Michigan and Ohio State.
09:55I mean, Indiana was the bottom of the barrel.
09:58You know, these teams were awful in the middle of that conference.
10:01And I would still say, I mean, Minnesota, Illinois, you know,
10:07Penn State was average last year.
10:09You've got some teams where maybe they have some blue blood names,
10:13but they're not exactly putting on blue blood product on the field on Saturday,
10:18not even close to the SEC.

10:24I heard you try to say – I heard you try to assert superiority of the SEC
10:30over the Big Ten, but, I mean, all you have to do is look at championships recently.

13:37Hey, Gino, I know that the goal for the Canes and for Cristobal is make the college football playoff.
13:43They did it last year that way.
13:44It worked, and however you can get into the dance, you get into the dance.
13:47But is there something to be said?
13:49It's not even about winning the ACC, but it's finally not having one of the setbacks against a Syracuse, against
13:55a Georgia Tech.
13:56It feels like since Miami joined the ACC, whether it was Duke one year, whether it was a Virginia team
14:02one year, whether it was just one of these mediocre, maybe above-average ACC teams that Miami, on paper, was
14:09better than, ranked ahead of, but they always had a setback.
14:12Is there something to be said about Cristobal finally getting over that hump and beating the teams, all of the
14:18teams that he's supposed to beat?
14:20Well, I think their first goal is win the conference.
14:23Win the conference and you get into the playoffs.
14:25So I would say yes to that.
14:28You know, I think the tough games, going to Clemson, what has Clemson done now that they've started entering the
14:36portal and bringing some players in, and then going to Notre Dame?
14:41I mean, those are really going to be the two tough, I would say toughest games, just based on, you
14:47know, I think the schedule last year set up well for them.
14:50You know, you play Florida, you know, early, you play Notre Dame early in the heat, and the humidity just
14:56demoralized them down here in South Florida.
14:59So I think that the schedule last year set up well for them.
15:03I think it does this year.
15:04And I think that, you know, it's just a matter of, you're right, you win the games you're supposed to,
15:10and you beat the hell out of the teams you're supposed to, and then you move on.
15:14But I think that, yeah, their first goal is win the conference, and then the rest of the stuff, you
15:20should be in the playoffs, and you hope you're healthy.
15:23And then, like last year, I mean, they get into the playoffs by, you know, it was close, and they
15:29got in, they got hot, and they got to the championship game.
15:31So you want to get in, you don't want it to be close, and then you want to, you know,
15:35be healthy and go on a run.
15:37Before we run out of time, let me ask you this Norris Cole question real quick that we were talking
15:41about.
15:41Norris Cole won two rings with the heat, if you recall.
15:44He said on a podcast, getting $50 million and two rings, which is what he earned and earned, is better
15:53than $400 million and no rings.
15:57And what he says, what he follows up with, I'm taking $50 million in my rings.
16:02You got to remember, for me and what I value, $50 million, I can get anything I want.
16:06How many Rolls Royces, how many mansions can you get?
16:08And you know, in the Midwest, a million-dollar crib and a million-dollar crib in Miami or L.A.
16:13is two different lifestyles.
16:16So what's the question?
