00:00Nothing can overcome what I'm seeing with my eyes.
00:02Last year, when you and I were talking about how bad Dylan Gabriel looked
00:05and how Shador was looking actually really nice in limited opportunities
00:10and Joe Flacco looked like a real quarterback
00:12and Kenny Pickett looked lost with his tiny baby hands,
00:15we had people out there, what I can only assume is taking it
00:20directly from the Browns saying,
00:22Kenny Pickett looks good, Dylan Gabriel's ahead of schedule, right?
00:26Yeah, and the reason why we called shenanigans on that was why.
00:28We were sitting here talking to Bernie Kosar at this very table
00:31that we're doing right now, interviewing Bernie
00:33while watching Dylan Gabriel miss pass after pass after pass.
00:36Well, but I think that's, I think my lesson last year was
00:39I want to know what everybody's hearing
00:41because that is informed speculation,
00:44but if I'm seeing what I'm seeing with my own eyes here
00:47and you're seeing it and then, you know,
00:50people that we really like and respect that are out here
00:52are saying the same things, this isn't exactly some thought vacuum.
00:56You know, this isn't, we're not doing this in some vacuum
00:59where it's not just a bunch of people convincing you.
01:02No, it's what you're seeing.
01:03I know, but I guess the reason why I would throw Schrager in there
01:06and anybody else and why it's almost going to be like
01:08I need the national media to wake up
01:10and kind of pay attention to what's happening here
01:12is because although we can look at it and see what's happening,
01:15the blinders that this Browns organization has worries me.
01:19And the idea that they constantly put their thumb on the scale
01:21for the result that they want, no matter what's happening,
01:24and this is evidenced by Dylan Gabriel last year,
01:27the idea that they kept throwing him out there
01:29and kept throwing him in our face and saying,
01:30he's better, he's better.
01:32And I kept saying, no, he's not.
01:33He's not better.
01:34What are you seeing?
01:35And so that's the part that worries me.
01:37When the national guys start to trickle in, though,
01:39it tells me that the Browns have their eyes awoke to this.
01:42They see what's happening.
01:43And that's really the game I'm playing right now, Nick, is a simple one.
01:46I'm waiting for the Browns to play catch up
01:49to what they already know
01:50and what is already happening on the field.
01:52So here's the thing.
01:54Here's where last year,
01:56part of my lack of trust in the quarterback thing is
02:00what was being said did not match my eyes.
02:03And it was also, I think Kevin was lost in the sauce.
02:06To me, why I feel like there's real momentum in the quarterback room
02:12is I don't think Todd Munkin is going to play these games.
02:16I really do.
02:17I think Todd is an incredibly honest human being.
02:20I think that honesty and that just pragmatic approach to football
02:24is what this organization has been missing.
02:26You can think your way out.
02:28I mean, he said a lot of nice things about Deshaun Watson today.
02:30Well, yeah, I think.
02:31Well, but again, there's a difference between what he says publicly
02:34and what he's actually saying behind closed doors.
02:37There's no way right now Todd Munkin is being like,
02:40but what about that one pass from Deshaun Watson?
02:43I mean, he's got no reason to go for it
02:46the same way that Andrew Barry and Jimmy Haslam do.
02:49Jimmy Haslam and Andrew Barry are invested into the idea that,
02:52as of right now, that is the biggest mistake
02:54either one have made in their professional careers.
02:56So they're heavily invested in Deshaun finding the fountain of youth
02:59and turning back the clock.
03:00Munkin doesn't have that same investment.
03:02Yeah.
03:03He doesn't.
03:04So that's something that I would hope he'd be the voice of reason in all this
03:07and he would step up and say,
03:08I got to call it exactly how I see it.
03:10I got to look at it exactly the way that it is.
03:12There's no way he's not seeing what's out there on the field.
03:15He knows exactly how this is going right now.
03:17And how it's going is Deshaun Watson looks awful at football.
03:20I just think a lot of people are getting hip to this.
03:24From a fan base, like we got the prosecutor on Twitter tweeting at us
03:28saying, I don't know why they don't just call this
03:31and start giving Sanders as many reps as possible
03:33to prepare for the season.
03:36So we've been, again, ahead of this.
03:39We both have thought Shador was going to start.
03:41We both have been saying Shador looks good, Deshaun looks lost.
03:45So now everyone's caught up.
03:47I think within the next 24 to 48 hours, I think if this continues
03:52and Deshaun looks lost, the light doesn't come on,
03:55and Shador continues to merely look adequate,
03:58I think you're going to start to get this groundswell of support
04:00of people saying, why are we wasting time going off the ones and twos here?
04:06Give Shador the ones and let's see what this kid can do.
04:09I hope so.
04:09I think that's where we are as soon as the end of installation on Thursday.
04:13I hope so.
04:15The question will be, will the Browns be?
04:16Well, and that's it.
04:17That's what it always goes back to with me.
04:18It's like, will the Browns get on the page that they're supposed to?
04:21Will they get on board with what looks obvious at the current moment,
04:24or are they going to extend it out?
04:26Maybe for them, they'll say, well, we've got to see in preseason games.
04:29You know, because sometimes guys are gamers, right?
04:32And I would never make the argument that Deshaun Watson's a gamer.
04:35But these guys are at the poker table,
04:37and they're playing with nothing as far as their hand is concerned.
04:39And so they're going to try to make something out of nothing here.
04:42Maybe that's just what they're hoping.
04:44I really don't know.
04:45Do you extend this out to – if it continues to go this way,
04:49do you extend it out to give them the Bears preseason game on the 15th?
04:53No.
04:54No, not if we're talking about splitting reps.
04:57Because, like, so much of what I find to be a very false conversation
05:02with people who want to compare Dylan Gabriel last year and Joe Flacco
05:06and Shador is Shador was never given a chance to come close to getting right
05:12despite succeeding in his minimal reps against, like, the fourth team, right?
05:17Right, right, right.
05:18And so by the time you actually got around to Shador,
05:21the fact that that guy got you three wins in seven games is a miracle.
05:24He should have been worse than he actually played last year.
05:27Agreed.
05:27So every single rep counts for him.
05:31In a way, it just doesn't for Deshaun.
05:34And honestly, I would say the same thing about Dylan Gabriel,
05:37although I don't think Dylan's really factoring in on this job.
05:39So if it's obvious that Deshaun's just not – he doesn't have it.
05:43He's not there.
05:44He's not going to be there at least until maybe sometime when the pressure's off
05:49in the middle of the season, right?
05:50If that's obvious right now, why not throw it all behind Shador?
05:55Or – and again, if the point is he's got to get his cadence right,
05:59how do you get the cadence right?
06:01Practice.
06:01Practice it, exactly.
06:02Going out there and doing things time and time and time again.
06:05Which is another thing Munkin himself said today.
06:07We do this all the time with radio.
06:09The kid just needs reps.
06:10He just needs to get behind the mic.
06:11Same thing Munkin said today when it came to Shador and Deshaun Watson.
06:14It's all about reps.
06:16It's all about making sure they get enough opportunities.
06:18Now, I do want to point out, every time I say the Browns,
06:20and we've got a lot of folks here –
06:23Yeah, people turn around and look.
06:24Yeah, they're – oh, they're talking to me.
06:26I'm not sure what happened, though.
06:27And it's like, you are in a Browns – like, you've got your little brown shirt on.
06:32Why?
06:32Do they think they're chomps all of a sudden?
06:33I don't understand how this works.
06:35I actually kind of like the idea –
06:37Or are they surprised that we're talking?
06:39That anyone – they're surprised we're here?
06:41Yeah, they're like, I thought I was by myself.
06:43We're also surprised that we're still here at 6 o'clock and nobody has –
06:48Nice irrigation system they have out here, though.
06:50I will say, the sprinklers don't get enough credit out here in Berea.
06:53This is – they've done a nice job rotating.
06:55Yeah.
06:55I've really enjoyed watching them get to work.
06:57I know we've had some grounds crew guys retire over the last couple of years.
07:01We got the shout-out a few days ago.
07:02They have pulled off a seamless transition to the current grounds crew.
07:06We also call this the Munkin effect?
07:09Oh, he helped ease the transition there?
07:11No, like, Stefanski's lawn didn't look like this.
07:13That's all I'll say about that.
07:14Many people have said it.
07:15Yeah, his lawn didn't look like this.
07:16But, no, I like the idea that anyone that puts on a brown shirt while in Berea
07:22thinks themselves ubiquitous with the browns.
07:25I don't think that's it.
07:26I really think they just didn't hear us talking.
07:28It has been Stepford Wives-esque.
07:30Yeah, but then we got loud, and then all of a sudden they heard us talking,
07:33and they said, what's going on over there?
07:34So the coincidence here is –
07:36Did someone die?
07:36Oh, no.
07:36People are just doing a radio show.
07:37So the coincidence is every time I say the Browns that somebody in Browns
07:41regalia looks back, that's the – that exact Pavlovian response.
07:46Is that right?
07:47Yeah.
07:47That's the coincidence?
07:49It's the greatest coincidence I've ever seen.
07:51I'm calling it how I see it right now.
07:53I'll tell you right now, if I work – if I was even like – you know,
07:57the grounds crew, there's guys come out here, and they, like,
07:59throw, like, seed onto the field after practice.
08:02Yeah, they're doing the same thing like you when you go to the golf course,
08:04for instance, and then you've got to patch up your divot.
08:06I would think myself ubiquitous with the Browns if I had one of those.
08:10I'm like, yeah.
08:11Who are these interlopers that are out here with their big,
08:16fancy equipment talking about my team, talking about me personally?
08:20It's almost like a how dare you, you know?
08:23Yeah.
08:23How dare you occupy the space that I'm in right now?
08:26This is supposed to be my time.
08:26And they've got a point.
08:27Yeah, definitely.
08:28Yeah.
