00:05Secretariat Club, facing eviction. The club, which started in 1919 as the Talkarora Club,
00:10was originally created as a recreational space for central government employees.
00:15But now, the government says it has drifted far from the purpose.
00:19The Department of Personnel and Training withdrew the club's recognition,
00:22citing administrative and financial irregularities, failure to conduct elections,
00:27allegations of illegal gambling, liquor-related complaints, and unauthorized occupants on
00:32government land. Three days after the club's recognition was withdrawn on July 14, an estate
00:37officer ordered the establishment to vacate the premises. A few days later, the government took
00:42possession and logged the property. The club has now moved the Delhi High Court, arguing that the
00:47eviction was illegal and that a 107-year-old institution cannot be removed without due process.
