00:32The same demand that they've had earlier in the case of the need paper leak and then in the case
00:38of police mishandling as well.
00:42Story number two for you, E-20 Rao, that's not dying down.
00:46Arvind Kejriwal has taken the fight to Prime Minister's doorstep.
00:49He says that the Ahmadine is suffering.
00:51Why don't they have a choice to opt out of E-20 just like there is in other developed nations
00:58as well?
01:00And then we've got story number three, Raachi's Jantar Mantar moment.
01:04It's entered day 11 and the entire politics around it is just getting murky up.
01:10We'll bring you all aspects of that story.
01:12But first up, as always, let me take you through the top headlines on Top of Five.
01:18A political storm has erupted in Tamil Nadu over DMK leader Udhya Nidhi's talents' controversial remarks while addressing the Kaveri
01:25rally.
01:26Now, Udhya Nidhi responded to chants of Trisha Trisha with a comment that critics alleged was a double meaning targeting
01:35the actor.
01:36The controversy then escalated into his arrest with the Madras High Court, now directing Tamil Nadu police to release him
01:43on station bail.
01:45Udhya Nidhi Stalin now speaks to India today, says he didn't say anything wrong and that he will fight the
01:51case legally.
01:55Rao has triggered a political slugfest.
01:58BJP welcomed Stalin's arrest, calling it a consequence of his anti-women remarks.
02:02The AIADMK also condemned his comments while the PMK criticised both the remarks and the arrest.
02:10The Congress, too, distanced itself from the controversy and demanded an unconditional apology.
02:17Charkhan's students' agitation is showing no sign of slowing down.

02:54Fresh recruitment controversy has erupted in Karnataka.
02:57Hundreds of candidates boycotted the police constable recruitment exam in Vijayapura,
03:02alleging delays in question paper distribution, confusion over OMR sheets and widespread mismanagement as well,
03:08while demanding a re-examination.
03:10The state government has now denied any lapses,
03:13with Home Minister Priyank Kargay attributing the Rao to misunderstanding over OMR's serial numbers.
03:22Meanwhile, the Karnataka cabinet expansion has triggered a political storm.
03:26Multiple MLAs have now threatened resignation after being left out of the new ministry.
03:32Speaking to India today,
03:33rebel MLA there questioned the government's ability to deliver.
03:37Chief Minister D.K. Sivakumar dismissed the rebellion,
03:40saying those who want to resign are free to do so and that patience pays.
03:45BJP, meanwhile, has dubbed the new cabinet as a symbol of corruption and controversy.
03:53Arvind Kejriwal's march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence over E20 fuel policy
03:57was stopped by Delhi police, after which the AAP chief staged a sit-in,
04:01demanding the rollback of the policy and claiming over 2.3 lakh petitions have been signed against.

04:09Kejriwal then also went on to reiterate his charge that Centre was promoting E20 under pressure from the US.

04:42The opposition, however, has defended space for dissent on social media.
04:46Amit Darao, government, has also submitted a Meta head offer,
04:50has asked them to be summoned in front of them of public policy on 5th August.

05:03An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi encountered a severe turbulence mid-air,
05:10leaving nearly 12 passengers and crew injured.
05:13The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, with Air India confirming that there was no serious passenger injury.
05:18Sources say that the flight briefly lost around 300 feet in altitude,
05:23while one cabin crew member suffered serious injuries.
05:29The FSSAI has directed Darbar, India to stop selling several products carrying 100% claims,
05:36saying that labels could mislead consumers and violate advertising rules.

10:52All right, let's get a view from my colleague Ashwarya Pallewal joining us for more details on the story.
10:57Ashwarya, it's been a stormy session to say the least when it comes to this particular monsoon session.
11:04But in middle of that, they've managed to pass one bill at least.
11:07In fact, two at the moment that we're looking at.
11:11Both Vande Matram and also the paper, you know, the anti-leak bill as well.
11:15But if you compare this to all the protests that you've been hearing from the opposition so far,
11:21are we to understand that largely it has been to try and get the Home Minister and the Prime Minister
11:27to respond to the big two controversies that, you know, are talk of the nation at the moment.
11:34One, on NEET, you know, including that of how the police handle the crowd,
11:39and then of the Chandachori as well.
11:42Is that how he's supposed to read this entire opposition?
11:47You know, Sonal, let me tell you what exactly is happening.
11:50The opposition very, very clear that they want the Home Minister to A, come in the Lok Sabha,
11:55and B, they want him to make a statement to tell India what exactly happened
11:59and why were the pellet guns being used.
12:01Second, the government, what they are doing, let me tell you, you know,
12:04you also spoke about the two bills.
12:05But what's very interesting, Sonal, the first bill which was passed yesterday,
12:08you know, the bill was tabled at 2.03 and it was passed at 2.09,
12:13which means within six minutes we saw one bill being passed
12:16and that is exactly what happened even today.
12:19Barely, you know, minutes after the bill was being tabled, it was being passed,
12:23it barely took seven minutes.
12:24So nine minutes yesterday and seven minutes today, this is what we are looking at.
12:28The government is very, very clear.
12:29We do have certain bills that we want to be passed.
12:32We will get those passed, whether the opposition creates a ruckus or does not create a ruckus.
12:37The opposition in the morning, they all come out and they all say
12:40that we want the Home Minister to make a statement.
12:42But Sonal, as far as I understand, we are not seeing the statement coming in from the Home Minister,
12:46at least in days to come.
12:48All right.
12:49Ashwara, they are putting in perspective and the government wants,
12:51even in middle of all this dharna happening and the ruckus happening inside the House and outside,
12:58it manages to pull it off.
12:59And other times, it is just trying to handle the opposition.

22:24ethanol called E100. With most Brazilian cars now built as flex fuel vehicles and they are able to
22:32run on either. In United States what's the story? Where there they keep E10 as its base fuel that
22:38sells about E15 and E85 separately at many stations for compatible vehicles as well. So
22:44different states there depending on what kind of cars they largely have have different kind of
22:49blends. Now the government in India has defended the policy on the grounds of reduced crude oil
22:55imports, lower emissions, additional farmer income and greater energy security as well. It has ruled
23:01out reviving E10 or E0 as well that's pure petrol at standard pump prices and it maintains that there
23:07is no link between policy and the US trade pressure. All of that aside, online the conversation
23:15is very different. People still continue to complain. So is Arvind Keshriwal.
23:20Mr. Sir, what are you doing here? Sir, you are here to reach the march. Is there a police
23:26barricade in this moment? What are you doing for the petition? What was the petition?
24:17All right.
24:19Amit Bharatwajna joins us for more details on this story.
24:22Amit, this is perhaps for the first time
24:24that the opposition has actually taken the E20 question
24:28to the Prime Minister himself.
24:29So far, we've seen criticism coming the way of Mitnigat Kare.
24:32He dragged a couple of these YouTubers
24:33who made content like that to court as well.
24:36Now there is a petition against another petition
24:38fighting out in different courts.
24:40But our Adipati effectively is saying
24:42and talking about a new allegation
24:44of this US pressure of added ethanol.
24:46At the end of the day,
24:47is the conversation when you talk to people
24:50more about choice.
24:51That we did not have a choice
24:53of taking either E20 or pure petrol.
24:57Yes, it exists,
24:58but in very few stations at a very high price.
25:04So, no, as far as the opposition strategy is concerned,
25:07it is pretty clear.
25:08In the Parliament,
25:10as the week proceeds,
25:11and in the last week of Parliament as well,
25:13we will see the opposition putting pressure
25:15on the government on ethanol.
25:17And Arvind Kejewal has a full-fledged campaign built on it.
25:21He was one of the first key opposition leaders
25:24who actually felt that this is the issue of the Ahmadine,
25:27or the common man of the country,
25:28and it must be raised.
25:30So if you look at the entire trajectory,
25:33he first held press conferences,
25:34then launched a campaign,
25:36digital campaign,
25:37where he was sure that
25:39there will be lakhs of digital signatories
25:42to this campaign,
25:43seeking the government to roll back
25:45the blended petrol, or E20.
25:48And now,
25:50when he has those signed petitions
25:53with the Ahmadinei party claims
25:54that it is 2.38 lakh in number,
25:57he wanted to approach the Prime Minister,
25:59asking him to completely roll back
26:01the blended petrol, E20 petrol.
26:03And on the same hand,
26:06he has been writing to the vehicle manufacturers,
26:09asking them as to whether they can ensure
26:11that there will be no problem
26:12with the cars or motorbikes
26:16using E20 petrol across the country.
26:19And if that guarantee comes,
26:20they should be providing full damage replacement
26:27to the consumers.
26:28And he, on the other hand as well,
26:30has reached out directly to consumers
26:32to understand what you asked as well,
26:34as to what is the pain point
26:36for the consumers of vehicles right now.

29:39Meanwhile, the BJP has sharpened its attack.

29:59the government assured that they are working towards a solution.

30:31The crowds are swelling and the agitation is gathering political heat.
30:36The question now isn't whether the movement is growing
30:39but how long the government can afford to wait before responding.

30:51All right, moving on to the other big story coming to us from Supreme Court today
30:54and this is a good one.
30:55In a significant expansion of legal protection for women,
30:58the Supreme Court has now ruled that the criminal law against domestic cruelty
31:02will now extend to even live-in relationships.
31:06The court held that the protection available under section 498A
31:11will apply where a relationship is in the nature of marriage,
31:15making it clear that the intent to marry is an essential requirement there.
31:19But explaining its reasoning,
31:20the Supreme Court said that cruelty does not check whether a woman is married or not.
31:26Before entering a household,
31:28stressing that the law must evolve with society.
31:31The bench observed that marriage alone can no longer be the sole basis for extending protection,
31:37especially when live-in relationships have become a social reality.
31:41The court said that the objective of the law is to protect women from domestic cruelty,
31:45not merely married women.
31:47It held that the law must respond to changing social realities
31:51and that denying protection solely because a couple is not formally married
31:57would defeat the very purpose of the legislation.
32:00The court, however, also drew clear boundaries.
32:04It said that only those live-in relationships that closely resemble marriage
32:08with a shared home, shared domestic responsibilities, financial independence
32:12and a clear intent to marry will qualify for protection.
32:16Casual or purely romantic relationships will not be covered
32:20and that the initial burden of proving that the relationship was in the nature of marriage
32:25or with the intention to marriage will lie with the woman seeking protection.

47:17And how they did this study is also very fascinating.
47:20They picked up identical and fraternal twins.
47:22They took their hands, put it in a container which had all the mosquitoes.
47:26And researchers could actually track which twin the mosquito moved towards.
47:30Identical twins who shared the same DNA attracted mosquitoes at almost the same rate.
47:35But fraternal twins didn't nearly match as closely.
47:39So, if you have to avoid the mosquito's 5-star rating, then what do you have to do?
47:45First, wear light colour clothes.
47:47Second, wear full sleeves.
47:49Third, use repellant.
47:50And what happens is that the mosquito gets confused.
47:53They don't like the smell and they run away from you.
47:56So it actually works.
