In an exclusive interview with India Today, Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra extended full backing to democratic protests against alleged electoral malpractice, affirming her party's solidarity with youth demonstrators. Speaking on the call for accountability, Moitra asserted, "He's the first person whose resignation should be on the table," referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She maintained that the movement's focus goes far beyond individual officials, stating that "obviously the buck doesn't stop with Ganesh Kumar" and directly implicating senior government leadership. Moitra challenged allegations of foreign influence and unauthorized infiltrators, citing tribunal data and demanding concrete evidence from the government regarding alleged illegal voters in Bihar and West Bengal. Addressing opposition coordination, she emphasized that senior leaders have deliberately maintained separate protest schedules to preserve public and student spaces while remaining united in their collective effort to protect Indian democracy.

00:00I want to cut across right now to TMC Lok Sabha MP, Senior Leader Mahua Moitro, who's joining us live.
00:06Ms. Moitro, thank you for taking the time out.
00:08Allow me to ask you a first quick question.
00:10Where does the TMC Mamata Banerjee faction stand on the protest call by Abhijit Dipke, which is the 16th of
00:19this month?
00:19Will a political party like yours be joining in?
00:26As our leader Mamata Banerjee has already tweeted today, she said that we've always stood for democracy over the years
00:33and we continue to do that.
00:35And what has happened today is a blot on democracy.
00:38Jantan Mantar is a public place.
00:41You cannot be criminally, you cannot be trespassing on a public place, A.
00:46B, criminal trespass has to have intent to do something criminal.
00:50In this case, all they did was unfurl the flag.
00:53And the last time we saw that was a crime was under British colonial rule.
00:57And also what we've seen here is they say it's breach of peace.
01:00How is unfurling a flag breach of peace?
01:03So we are with them 100%.
01:04Mamata Banerjee has tweeted her support and as have all the other India Alliance leaders.
01:10So we are behind them 100%.
01:13Ms. Moitro, you yourself did get roughed up the last time around you went out in protest.
01:20Will there be physical presence of opposition parties in this protest?
01:25Because till now we've seen a complete demarcation where at one end when the opposition protests the India Alliance, it's
01:33separate.
01:34And then there is the call of the CJP.
01:35Do we see the merging of parts right now?
01:38Because the language seems to suggest there is one common cause and every part should come together.
01:46It's definitely one common cause and everything has to come together.
01:50All of us are together as you've seen with the solidarity shown of the Gen Z young protesters with us
01:57and us with them.
01:58So it's definitely one and that is to reclaim our democracy.
02:01There's no doubt about that.
02:03Now when the youngsters, when Gen Z, when the students are protesting, the senior leaders have taken a call that
02:10we don't want to go in and cramp their space.
02:12So we don't want to go in and cramp their space and political parties, there are a lot of people
02:16in this country still who believe that they don't want to align with a particular political party.
02:22But at the same time for something like this, like vote chori, like reclaiming democracy, they still want to be
02:27out there.
02:28So we want to leave the space open that if there are people who want to be, you know, without
02:33political color, but to go in and reclaim democracy from the hands of these louts and goons, that they are
02:39free to do that.
02:39Which is why we have been doing our protests on different days and leaving the CJP and the youngsters to
02:47do it on different days.
02:48So I don't know if they will converge later, but as of now this has been simply done to leave
02:52everyone their space.
02:53But we are all in the same fight together, fighting for the same goal.
02:57Ms. Moitra, you had the Home Minister yesterday, after even senior cabinet ministers like Piyush Goel.
03:03The train of thought now is very clear.
03:06The messaging coming in from the government is an attempt on the opposition part, like you, an attempt to spread
03:13anarchy, playing into foreign forces, and also supporting what the Home Minister called Ghuspetias.
03:24Who is interested in the Home Minister?
03:26Is anyone interested in this Home Minister?
03:29Tell me honestly, is anyone interested, does anyone give a flying fig as to what Home, Amit Shah says?
03:36He's been in hiding.
03:37If he's been Home Minister, this government has held the Home Portfolio for the past 12 years.
03:42If they're still giving us the bogey of Ghuspetias, like I've said this before, he's the first person whose resignation
03:47should be on the table.
03:48So, no one's listening to this dog whistling anymore.
03:54If you've seen the ECI data infrastructure, the software, the clouds, it's all held by this company in Bangalore, next
04:03-gen, which is held by Finot Khosla, who's got ties to Epstein, who's based in Silicon Valley, who's not based
04:09in India.
04:10So, what are we talking about?
04:12This foreign infiltration, nationalist thing, we are anti-national, we've had enough of all of this.
04:18People who, there is no bigger criminal, democratic criminal in this country than someone who stole democracy and stole the
04:26mandate.
04:26And that is the BJP and the BJP ecosystem that has done it via Seema Khanna and Gyanesh Kumar.
04:34There is nothing, there are no other criminals in that.
04:36Ms. Moitra, where does...
04:37So, I'm Piyush Gowell.
04:38Does anyone listen to Piyush Gowell?
04:41You know, ma'am, you know, in effect, well, those who support the government will turn around and say the
04:46same of the opposition.
04:48So, you're well within your right to ask that question, but there's a counter-opinion on that as well.
04:52For those who do support the government and who do feel that the likes of you are spreading handily.
04:56Just a counter-opinion, I have not heard, I have not heard one counter from this government on what the
05:04main points are.
05:05I have not heard one counter from the Home Minister and Modi ji, the Prime Minister, on how Gyanesh Kumar
05:14is still in his seat after it has been proven that the Election Commission has stolen the mandate.
05:20After it has been proven that people were illegally deleted without a chance for hearing from the database in this
05:28country.
05:29How, when it has been definitively proven that a majority of the 13 crore voters and definitely majority of the
05:36ones in West Bengal that have been deleted, have been deleted illegally and should be back on the rolls.
05:43We've not heard, that is the main issue.
05:45The main issue is not about, you know, what you're saying, what I'm saying and this kind of tutu meh
05:50meh.
05:50This is not the issue. You said there were Ghuspetias in Bihar. I was a petitioner in Bihar. Who were
05:57the Ghuspetias? Could you prove at the end of the Bihar SIR how many Ghuspetias were there? What's the number?
06:02There were 200 odd Nepali Hindu women who were married to Biharis on the border districts.
06:09In Bengal, there were 27 lakh pending adjudication where they are coming back, the hit rate of their being accepted
06:17once they are being heard at the tribunals is something close to 95%.
06:22So, 95% of those 27 lakh people, now it is 32 lakh people, should be back on the rolls.
06:28How many are Ghuspetias? At the end of the Bengal exercise, give me a list of 100 Ghuspetias that you
06:34found.
06:35Have you done that? These are the questions. This is not a question of tutu meh meh and I would
06:39request you, Preeti, you somehow managed to take a stand somewhat divergent from India today, which is complete Gaudi media
06:45and I'm saying this, not you, so you're not responsible for it.
06:48But you've somehow been somewhat of a sane voice in India today. So, I'm telling you on live television that
06:53it's high time that the media also called this out.
06:58We want real answers. This is not about Puyish Goyal doing tutu meh meh or Amit Shah doing tutu meh
07:02meh. Give us the answers.
07:03Allow me to ask you one final question, but do allow me to say this. The sheer fact that I
07:08represent my channel, my channel represents me and I just want to leave it at that.
07:12And I'm very proud to be associated with India today. And I will just now ask you one final question
07:17before we let you go.
07:18Wonderful. And I hope, yes, yes.
07:21Let me ask you one quick question before we let you go. Because the Congress has taken a very strident
07:27stand that the buck doesn't stop with the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation.
07:31They've escalated it to the Home Minister and the Prime Minister himself. Other political parties like the Samajwadi Party and
07:38even the left parties have made it very clear that their fight is limited to the resignation of the CEC.
07:48I don't think we are limited to that. I don't think and I don't know where you're quoting that from,
07:53but we've made it very clear that that Amit Shah, we said Amit Shah needs to resign a long time
07:58before.
07:59So, we have said Amit Shah needs to resign 10 months ago, for the past two years ago. So, we
08:03have made it very clear that Ganesh Kumar is not some rogue agent.
08:07Ganesh Kumar has been propped up by the government, by Amit Shah and Narendra Modi. Who is Ganesh Kumar? He's
08:13an IAS officer from who's been deputed here.
08:16Ganesh Kumar has not come from Mars on some mission to destroy Indian democracy. He's been placed here by people
08:21who destroy democracy.
08:22Why is this government, after all of this uproar, all of this, that people are hitting the streets, bending over
08:28backwards to save Ganesh Kumar, Priti?
08:31Who is Ganesh Kumar? He's just nothing. He's a puppet. Who are the ones holding the, who are the puppeteers?
08:36It's Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. And of course, the bug stops with them.
08:40If they would remove the Ganesh Kumar, they've got three other tattoos in the line to replace Ganesh Kumar.
08:44So, obviously, the bug doesn't stop with Ganesh Kumar. And I'm not sure that they, I don't know where you've
08:48got that.
08:50I'll tell you where I've got that from, because we've had both left parties and Samajbadi parties who've come on
08:56the channel and said very clearly that their limited fight today is the resignation of the CEC and they're not
09:03escalating it to the HM and the PM.
09:05They've said that. But thank you for taking the time out and joining us this evening. I appreciate the time.
09:11That's not what I got to go away, but I definitely hope that.
09:13Okay. Fair point. Thank you. Thank you, Ms. Moitra, for joining us. Appreciate it.
