Genesis Chapter 24 records Abraham’s search for a wife for Isaac and the finding of Rebekah.
Abraham is old and well advanced in years. He makes his servant swear that he will not take a wife for Isaac from the daughters of the Canaanites, but will go to Abraham’s country and kindred. The servant takes ten camels and journeys to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor. At the well he prays for a sign: the young woman who offers water to him and also to his camels. Before he finishes speaking, Rebekah comes out. She does exactly as he prayed. She is the granddaughter of Nahor. The servant gives her gifts and is brought to her family’s house. He recounts everything. Laban and Bethuel agree that the matter comes from the Lord. Rebekah consents to go. They return to Canaan. Isaac goes out to meditate in the field, sees the camels, and meets Rebekah. He takes her into the tent of Sarah his mother, and she becomes his wife. He loves her.
