Genesis Chapter 21 records the birth of Isaac and the events that follow.
The Lord visits Sarah as He had said, and she bears Abraham a son in his old age. Abraham names him Isaac and circumcises him. Sarah says, “God has made laughter for me.” Later Ishmael is seen laughing or mocking, and Sarah demands that Hagar and her son be cast out. Abraham is distressed, but God tells him to listen to Sarah, for through Isaac shall the offspring be named. Hagar and Ishmael wander in the wilderness of Beersheba; when the water is gone, God opens her eyes to a well. The chapter continues with the covenant between Abraham and Abimelech at Beersheba. Abraham plants a tamarisk tree and calls there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.
