Genesis Chapter 19 records the arrival of the two angels in Sodom and the judgment that follows.
The angels come to Sodom in the evening. Lot meets them, bows, and urges them to stay in his house. The men of the city surround the house and demand the visitors. The angels strike the men with blindness. They urge Lot to take his family and flee. Lot’s sons-in-law think he is jesting. As dawn breaks the angels seize Lot, his wife, and his two daughters and bring them out of the city, saying, “Escape for your life. Do not look back.” Lot pleads to flee to the small city of Zoar. Then the Lord rains sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot’s wife looks back and becomes a pillar of salt. Abraham looks toward the place and sees the smoke rising. The chapter ends with Lot and his daughters in a cave in the hills.
