00:25every island has a story some are told through celebration others through resilience today our
00:33journey takes us to Cuba where breathtaking beaches rich culture and timeless history continues to
00:40welcome visitors even as the country faces one of the most difficult periods in modern history
00:46for Cubans hope isn't simply something they just talk about it's something they live every day
00:53headlines often focus on Cuba's economic challenges but behind those headlines are ordinary
01:00people adapting to daily life under extraordinary circumstances speaking with wider region Cuban
01:07ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Gustavo Vélez Olivares says the situation has become increasingly
01:15difficult but he believes understanding Cuba means looking beyond the headlines and we're
01:21suffering today a lot of blackout more than 20 hours daily that's affect everything in our life
01:32touring as you asked to me before or coming to me for health of course all the the our daily
01:42life is
01:43a strong affected because this name the blockade despite those challenges Cuba remains one of the Caribbean's
01:52most recognized destinations offering visitors far more than beautiful coastlines the ambassador says the
02:00island's greatest attraction may be its people with the Cuban people will be interesting for the visitors we have a
02:08high
02:08development of cultures a high development of education a lot of place to visit a part of that is good
02:20is good is a
02:26for cuba resilience is not simply enduring hardship it is believed to be a high development of the Cuban people
02:28people is my suggestion that also a people going there they're going there and
02:37and free what is going on how how Cuban people try to going for us despite the challenges for Cuba
02:48resilience is not
02:50simply enduring hardship it is believing tomorrow can still be better looking ahead the ambassador says
02:57that hope rests in the Cuban people's determination to move forward while strengthening relationships across
03:04the Caribbean and the wider world
03:07people will continue as I say before to take actions to recover our to recover our own development without
03:19intervention of anyone we don't accept is our philosophy or according to our history we don't accept the
03:28intervention of any one country we don't believe in ignite our president this is not the solution for us the
03:37solution for all is to have the bilateral relationship with United States and all countries around the Caribbean
03:47inclusive of course like independence and sovereignty country as Cuba continues navigating difficult economic waters its message to
03:57the Caribbean remains remarkably simple come see experience for yourself and understand
04:04sometimes the most remarkable thing about a place isn't what it has it's the spirit that carries it forward
