JP finds it ironic how the two positions groups of concern on the Commanders offense already have injury issues after the first week of camp.

00:00How many times on this radio program did I say Debo's not coming back here?
00:04That ship has sailed.
00:05Because I bet I've said it a hundred times.
00:08More than a hundred.
00:08Right.
00:09But like, because I never technically tweeted it out and said Debo Samuel won't return to the commanders per source.
00:15Like people are like, man, why weren't they bringing him back?
00:18He was never coming back here.
00:19The ship had sailed.
00:22Like that was not happening.
00:24Honestly, him resigning in San Francisco makes a lot of sense.
00:27They're dealing with their own injuries out there.
00:29Um, so the Debo thing wasn't going to happen here, period.
00:34I do think the Steph digs thing remains open, remains viable, a possibility.
00:40If I'm Steph digs and his camp and you see Trey Burks getting an injury on the first day of
00:44camp, even if it is incredibly minor, even if Dan Quinn's telling the total truth, I think Steph digs price
00:51just went up.
00:52Hey, I need one more incentive in there that if I have 30 catches, that's another 500 K.
00:58Like whatever it is, because it's just remarkable for this commanders team, all off season, the two things, the thing
01:09I was most concerned about was corner.
01:11And they added somebody, they signed a veteran, Rasul Douglas.
01:15He had an interception yesterday.
01:17I believe like that's a veteran corner that knows how to play the position.
01:21He's an NFL player, period.
01:24And I do, I've said this repeatedly in the receiver room, they added NFL players in Deami Brown and Van
01:31Jefferson.
01:31Like the, the depth in the receiver room is significantly different than what it was last year.
01:36Because even now, if Burks is going to miss some time, Deami has looked quite good through two days of
01:42training camp.
01:44But throughout the off season, I think the, the, my, my boy, Mitch Tischler, we do the podcast together.
01:50He's been screaming about the center position since they released Biotis, since they decided to just go with Allegretti at
01:55the position.
01:56And I like Nick, I like him as a human.
01:58I like him as a player, but he sustains a calf strain.
02:03Dan Quinn said the words calf strain.
02:05I'm not inventing that with, with Trey Burks.
02:08It's foot soreness.
02:09That's a very ubiquitous thing.
02:12Calf strain has like, you can Google that.
02:16One of these Twitter doctors that claims to know everything.
02:18Like they can tell you typically how much time you miss.
02:22And there are degrees of a strain certainly.
02:25But what's remarkable is, and I want to be crystal clear that I'm not knocking Julian good Jones.
02:32Like he was thrust into a situation yesterday that wasn't ideal for him.
02:37But the, the lack of depth at the center position, it's not going to bury you.
02:43It's August.
02:43If Allegretti is back on the field by next Thursday, then none of this really matters.
02:48Like if Allegretti is the starting center, when you get into the preseason, this is all forgotten.
02:56But they have put themselves in a position with very, very little depth at the center position.
03:03And credit to Stallion.
03:05Like he is learning.
03:06Had you ever been to training camp before the last couple days?
03:09As a fan I have, but not as a media member.
03:11Okay.
03:11So, Stallion, I walk in this morning and he had told, what did you tell the junkies?
03:17Because then they immediately asked me a question.
03:19I told them, I was like, I thought the offense kind of struggled a little bit.
03:23Well, that's not what you said.
03:24I thought Jaden missed a couple throws yesterday.
03:25Sure.
03:26And what I said is, well, you had a backup center in there and Julian Good-Jones has been, I
03:33think he graduated, look up when he got out of Iowa State, White Bryant.
03:36I want to say 23 was his first year in the NFL, but he's been an NFL practice squad player
03:44for some time.
03:45He has been active in one game, week 17 or 18, 2023 against the Cowboys, and he had two
03:52offensive snaps.
03:54And I think Julian Good-Jones is better slated to play guard than he is to play center.
04:00But like, if you watched yesterday and your takeaway was Jaden missed some throws, you're
04:05entirely missing the boat because they were in red zone and the center of the offensive
04:11line was just getting blown up.
04:17So, Jaden got sacked on back-to-back plays.
04:19They had a first and goal from like the five and they ended up with like third and goal
04:22from the 21.
04:23It's not on Jaden.
04:24He's running for his life.
04:26And if Jalen Lane makes a catch on the third and 22, I bet Stallion feels very differently
04:30about Jaden's afternoon.
04:31So, I think you got to look at the totality of the picture.
04:34But what I want to do for the phone lines, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067, I'll let you start
04:44mad.
04:45I think because it's July 31st, is that what day it is?
04:49July 31st?
04:50You know what I'm terrible at?
04:51I never know what month has how many days.
04:55I know October because Halloween is the 31st.
04:57And I know February has 28, but outside of that, I know there's like some way of knowing
05:02there's like some nursery rhyme or whatever that kids know.
05:05I have no idea what month has how many days.
05:07Like how many, how many days are in March, Stallion?
05:1030 or 31?
05:11I think it's 31.
05:12Wait, no.
05:13So, you don't know either.
05:14Yeah, I don't.
05:15How many days are in, I guess November's 30 because December has 31 because of New Year's
05:20Eve.
05:21I guess I could go backwards off New Year's Eve and Halloween.
05:24Is there a nursery rhyme for that?
05:26Isn't there some rhyme?
05:27It probably is.
05:28I don't, I don't know it.
05:29I appreciate that input by Brian.
05:32Here's my question for these phone lines.
05:37Since free agency opens in March, they went after Alec Pierce, didn't get him, which I'm
05:42cool with.
05:42They went after Linda Baum.
05:45Vegas wasn't going to be denied on that.
05:48They paid a center, a boatload of cash.
05:51They didn't get him.
05:52But how mad are you that the, the positions you've been screaming about are tweeting me
05:58about our wide receiver and center.
06:01And on the first day of camp, the starting center gets hurt and then will likely be okay.
06:08I can't stress that enough that it is July 31st.
06:11He will likely be fine, but he did get banged up the first day.
06:15And presumably the number two wide receiver, Trey Burks foot soreness, fairly, fairly, I
06:24don't know, ambiguous.
06:25I don't know what foot soreness means.
06:26I don't know how long he's going to be out, but Burks is a guy that, that has never played
06:31more than 11 games in a season.
06:32And like, I think Trey Burks could play, but I think he's got to stay on the field to do
06:36it.
06:37And I'm just curious where fans are.
06:39Like if it was a linebacker injured his wrist on the first day, I don't think it would feel
06:48the same as the center and the wide out being injured.
06:52If that makes sense.
06:53If it was one of the D linemen, if it was, you know, one of the tight ends, weirdly, we
06:59didn't get much of an answer.
07:00John Bates didn't practice much yesterday.
07:02Maybe he was getting a vet day.
07:03I think it's kind of crazy to get a vet day on the second day of camp, but they have
07:07their,
07:07they have their reasons for all, all their veterans days.
07:11But I think because people were so concerned about the center position after the release
07:15of Tyler Biotish, and then people were so concerned, excuse me, about the wide receiver
07:21position that they didn't add to it.
07:24And people still want them to add to it now.
07:26And Steph digs is available.
07:27And we've dealt with six months of brain and I use social media posts.
07:30The fact that however minor those issues are the fact that it's those two positions,
07:37I just feel like it generates some real frustration from the fan base.
07:41Oh dude, who's ready?
07:43Anybody ready to rock Mark and Largo on a Friday morning to kick off the show?
07:47Let's go.
07:51Hello, Mark.
07:51How do you do, bud?
07:52How you doing?
07:53What's up, bro?
07:54How you doing, man?
07:55How are you?
07:57I'm doing pretty good, man.
07:58I do kind of agree with the fan base.
08:00I think the center position, look, I've said for the past two, three years about the wide
08:06receiver position, and I'm still upset about that.
08:09That's one thing.
08:10It's the center position right now that's become a disaster.
08:13Starting with letting Bionis go, and then not getting the guy that went to Oakland,
08:19went to Vegas and stuff like that.
08:20Now look at where we're at right now.
08:23I'm going to tell you right now, if they get off to a bad start, you've seen what Josh
08:28Harris has done in Philadelphia by getting rid of Daryl Morey, cleaning the house, and
08:32keeping the coach.
08:34Because I look at 24, Dan Quinn and Jaden Daniels got this team to that NFC title game, not Adam
08:42Peters.
08:43And Adam Peters is really showing he's in aptitude to really tighten and help this team out on
08:50the offensive side of the ball.
08:51And what's crazy is, and I think I feel like everybody feels the same way I feel about
08:57Peters now, is this is a pattern with him as far as not getting the players that we're
09:04supposed to get.
09:05And then he comes up with excuses.
09:08I mean, they need to be on the phone this weekend to get finished.
09:13The wide receiver position with Stephon Diggs, look, let me say this to you, JP.
09:18If they sign Stephon Diggs, he should submit his resignation the day after.
09:23And at the bottom of his resignation, he should put down there, Jaden, I'm so sorry.
09:28Hold on, you'll be mad if they sign Diggs?
09:32See, I think what it shows is, it's just something that Stephon Diggs shows me, you have no way
09:37of putting a quality receiving core around your quarterback.
09:41Everybody else's draft class has done it.
09:44Look at everybody else's draft class, JP.
09:48I mean, they're kind of dwarf stars.
09:52In our division, we are...
09:53You know, I was looking at something yesterday, which is interesting.
09:57Watson has the 30th worst receiving core in the league.
10:01Those are arbitrary rankings, but yeah, I've seen that stuff.
10:06So, Mark, I appreciate your passion.
10:09I appreciate your passion, sincerely.
10:11I hope you know that.
10:11Love you too, JP.
10:12I think to call anything a disaster on July 31st is premature.
10:16I want to at least say that.
10:20I think there's frustration with the fans.
10:23I think it couldn't have gone worse for day one to see two, albeit minor, injuries to those
10:30specific positions.
10:31I also want to point this out, that a lot of people are going to call and say, get a
10:37center right now.
10:39The centers you're going to get on July 31st probably have some pretty big question marks.
10:44Not to say they maybe can't help, but there's some question marks.
10:47I think if we get...
10:51So, hold on.
10:51We're talking about days and months of the year.
10:53The amount of people that are texting me about how you can tell the days and months of the
10:57year, our monumental producer, Joey, is claiming there's a knuckle trick.
11:01White Brian knows some knuckle tricks, all right?
11:03Nobody knows about days and months of the year with your knuckles.
11:07My mom texted me.
11:08She said, 30 days has September, April, June, and November.
11:12So, maybe write that down somewhere, White Brian.
11:15We'll keep track that way.
11:18I am...
11:21We're going to see if you remember that at the end of the show.
11:23No chance.
11:24No chance.
11:25My brain is too full of football to contain...
11:30There's things I'm good at.
11:32I'm good at state capitals.
11:33I'm good at international capitals.
11:35Nairobi is the capital of Kenya.
11:37And I'm good at football.
11:39But, like, that's about the list.
11:41Like, I like going on walks with my kids.
11:44Like, there's not a lot I'm good at.
11:45I don't know what to tell you.
11:47What I can tell you is, there's a dead week on the NFL calendar.
11:52Roster cuts have to go from 90 to 53, even though it's kind of 70, August 30th, right?
11:57And then they don't play till the following week.
12:00So, if you're looking at the dead week on the NFL calendar, it's August 30th till about September 8th.
12:07And they'll practice a little here and there, but it's kind of just glad-handing, chilling out.
12:12Like, what I can tell you with certainty is all over the NFL, that's the most golf that gets played
12:17technically in season.
12:20What also happens there, help me with the math on this.
12:23There's 32 NFL teams.
12:25Washington is one of them.
12:27So, there will be a pool of players going from 90 to 70, which is 20 players.
12:33Do the math for me, Dubby.
12:34There will be 20 times 31 players immediately available.
12:39Because those guys will get released from other rosters.
12:42620?
12:43Perfect.
12:44Then, you've got 17 players on NFL rosters all over the country.
12:5017 times 31.
12:51That's 70 to 53 zone.
12:53That if Washington finds someone they like, they can sign to their active.
12:57So, that increases that 620 pool to what?
13:01Another 17 times 31.
13:04Whatever that number is.
13:061177.
13:07There will be 1177 players that are on rosters right now that Washington cannot sign that will become available on
13:15August 30th.
13:16I find it very hard to believe that we get to September 5th, whatever day Labor Day is, that they
13:21haven't added a veteran from another roster at the center position.
13:26Now, is that a justifiable answer to them not having dealt with this in March or April?
13:32Perhaps not.
13:33But, I can't stress enough, one, I think they'll add somebody at the position once roster cut's clear.
13:41Two, I wonder if they want Matt Goulbin, the 6th round rookie out of Michigan State, who is a center,
13:47if they want him to get a couple weeks of NFL training camp under his belt before he would actually
13:53be the backup to Allegretti.
13:54And on day two of training camp, they're not going to thrust that rookie into that role.
13:59But, if we're talking week three and Allegretti gets banged up, I think it would be Goulbin over Julian Goodjohn.
14:07All of that said, if you're concerned about the center position, I get it.
14:12They did not add to the position.
14:14I like Allegretti.
14:15If you listened to DQ and AP the other day, talk about Allegretti.
14:18They love the guy.
14:18There's a lot to like there, but it is remarkable that on day one of camp, going into day two,
14:24Dan Quinn has to get up there and say, yeah, our center and our wide receiver are going to miss
14:29some time.
14:30Phone lines are full, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
14:35If you're on hold, stay there.
14:36I'm taking you as soon as we come back.
14:38How frustrated are you that two days into camp, you've got the starting center and presumably a starting wide receiver
14:45missing time?
