00:04garden man are the ones who do the traffic control so as with most garden
00:09man in Japan they don't really guard anything the ones that work in
00:14supermarkets usually collect shopping trolleys other ones in other businesses
00:19sort of just greet customers so they don't do much in the way of guarding
00:25interesting too we've been noticing recently that the garden man are getting
00:28older and older recently we were driving through a place and there was an old
00:34garden man not this one but one equally as old or if not older and we drove right
00:40up to him and we're almost touching him before he actually noticed the vehicle
00:45and then he sort of acted really surprised and sort of jumped back when he saw the
00:50car he didn't see us coming so it's quite common more and more retired people are
00:57getting jobs as garden man so it's quite common to see really really old garden
01:01man walking around the place oh this one we thought was interesting just because
01:04there's so many of them is that what they're doing the cross-arm thing there
01:10they're not letting cars enter from this direction only from the opposite
01:14direction which isn't a road rule thing legally you can turn right here and
01:19enter into that car park but they decided this group of five garden man for some
01:25reason decided that only let cars enter coming the other way so they're doing
01:29the cross-arm thing see this thing and making that guy go up right up the street
01:34and then turn around and come back again and that yeah that woman there's laughing
01:39about it look how fun is turn around and do the cross-arm thing that cross-arm
01:43thing drives me nuts instead of telling you what you can do and where you can park
01:50and where you can go quite often the garden man to stand there with their crossed
01:54arms drives you nuts so why there's five of them standing here doing the cross-arm
01:59thing seems to be a total waste of manpower doesn't it so yeah the old garden man most
02:07of the time they're more just to sort of give the customer a feeling of being greeted or
02:12welcomed or something more often than not they're not actually achieving anything
02:16this is just an entrance to the car park you could take these five garden man away and
02:21their little sign there and just let people go into the car park themselves so they're
02:28not really achieving anything it just sort of seems to be just to give the customer a
02:33a feeling of getting attention from whatever business or place it is and being looked after
02:42that seems to be what it is it's sort of an image this is the same place and there was
02:48these three guys that were sort of standing on a sort of a closed street for no particular
02:53reason and then there were these four guys over here and again not not a security function
03:00it's supposed to be a traffic control function but there was no real traffic where they posted
03:04these guys so seven of them standing in this one little stretch of road for no particular
03:11reason it's a mystery anyway the garden man more videos coming soon
