00:00Okay, first day, a lot of excitement, ready to get on the field, see what these guys are
00:05ready to show us. And so, again, a lot of prep work went in over the course of the spring.
00:08Guys have done a good job taking care of themselves for the summer. Now it's time to get to work.
00:13Go ahead.
00:13What was the report from yesterday? Zach, everybody here?
00:17Everybody here.
00:20What's your number one message on day one? You want to try to throttle them back?
00:24Well, I think with only the helmets on, you know, there is this four-day period here that
00:28you're trying to get good work in, trying to protect your teammates. Guys are eager to get
00:32out there and play football. But at the same time, we've got to do a good job protecting
00:36ourselves, protecting our teammates these first couple days. Then we'll put the pads on next
00:39week and really get out through it.
00:41So, what's the first day of college happening?
00:42Next week. Yep. After our day off.
00:46You have four in a row here. Is there going to be periodic days off that you plan for people
00:53to ease guys into the ramp-up? Is that kind of, and you have to structure that?
00:56Yes. I think D-line is going to be the one that stands out. I won't get into what the
01:00days are and who it is, but I think you'll see some D-linemen that follow that process.
01:05Zach, just how exciting is it just to be back with the guys and all the football season
01:08underway? The whole team, especially with all season moves, what's that exciting level
01:11right now?
01:12It's exciting. I think I certainly get that way over the course of summer. You enjoy the
01:15break. You enjoy the time with the family. You know, you've got a chance to take some
01:19time for yourself. It's necessary. It's going to be a long season. But certainly as, you know,
01:24three weeks left, two weeks left, every day that passes, you're ready to get in the building
01:29and get to work and get back around the guys. You know, and so, so far the energy's been
01:34good the last 24 hours.
01:35How much of this time of camp is reminding, refreshing the players over what they did
01:42during OT?
01:42There's a period of that. You know, that's part of the installation meeting. That's part
01:45of on the field. We also challenge them coming out of the offseason. Let's not spend a
01:50lot of time having to focus on that. Reminders on some things that we had to correct maybe
01:55in the offseason or some things we installed in the offseason. So that's on the players
01:58as well, to be reviewing that stuff over the last five weeks to make sure that they put
02:02their best foot forward on day one. But there will be that point when we're installing things
02:06and we're refreshing some of the coaching points that we made over time.
02:10Burrow does a lot of things well. One of them, like how impressive is his adaptability
02:16to kind of do whatever, fit whatever the team needs for him.
02:19I think that's his attitude is what you need from me for us to be at our best.
02:23And also understanding what his strengths are and what he believes will put himself in the
02:29best position. But also there's never been pushback on, hey, we're going to look at this
02:33scheme. We're going to try to do a couple of these things with you. Always been very receptive
02:37to it. Always wants to take a look at it. And then we'll accumulate some reps and then decide
02:41if that's really something we've moved forward with.
02:43But I think to have that lack of ego at quarterback is huge
02:47for our team and for our offense.
02:50How often does he come to you with scheme ideas?
02:53Not too much. More tweaks.
02:55I think that's the biggest thing is, you know, when you say ideas and things,
02:59it's more just the part of the process that he's really good at is
03:02instead of having this backside route be this, let's do this, I can finish my progression
03:07a little better if he's over here. Maybe after repping a play,
03:10he's got some real thoughts on that. So that comes up more game week,
03:14like real game week, not training camp. But there's certainly times where he'll text
03:18me during the week, you know, hey, I've been watching tape.
03:20Here's two ideas I got. Does it fit with what we're doing?
