00:01Matthew, in the manxest possible terms, that was a hell of a ride, fella.
00:08Yeah, it kind of all fell into place.
00:11I obviously had a game plan going into it, but it just seemed like everything I did was the right
00:17thing.
00:17And it's very, very rare that that's the case.
00:19A lot of the time you maybe feel the best, but the moves you go with just don't work.
00:24Every time you go, people chase.
00:26But I think today it just really fell into place.
00:29At what point did you start to think it might be on the cards?
00:34Obviously, you can see the big screens around.
00:36Was there a point where you thought I might be celebrating come the end of this race?
00:40Yeah, I think it came in stages.
00:41I think about halfway there was three of us on a lap ahead of everyone else.
00:46And then I obviously thought if it stays like this, then that's a medal.
00:51And after my two fourths, I was just really hunting a medal at that point.
00:54I thought, yeah, I was racing offensively and I just, I didn't want to, yeah, I didn't want to be
00:59fourth or fifth or sixth.
01:00So I was just hunting for the medals.
01:02But then I think about 40 or 50 laps to go, it started to look like no one else really
01:07had the legs to get the lap back on us.
01:10And it was really between the three of us and obviously I was leading.
01:13So then it was, yeah, the pressure was on at that point.
01:16And I thought, it's mine to lose.
01:17But yeah, I got it done.
01:19And I've said to Ben before, he probably won't have to buy a drink in Glen Vine anytime soon.
01:23He did a hell of a shift for you today.
01:25No, I owe a lot to Ben.
01:26And he's been a great, great friend, a great teammate and, yeah, a really great role model.
01:32He's, yeah, the perfect professional and he just really, he trains hard.
01:35He does everything right.
01:36And he's a good guy and he helped me a lot out there.
01:38So, yeah, I'm really thankful to Ben.
01:40And I don't know about you.
01:41I had a bit of a lump in my throat when you came on that last thing.
01:44You know, I know you were only half an hour, 45 minutes after the race.
01:47Can you sum up the emotions as you crossed the line?
01:50And then there was a short delay while the score was tallied.
01:53But, yeah, you must be over the moon.
01:55And I don't think it's sunk in.
01:57I've been a bit emotional this week.
01:59I haven't been crying in bed, but I've been close.
02:02And, yeah, normally I can be a bit, yeah, the tears can come out when I win and stuff.
02:08But they haven't yet.
02:10And I sucked it in on the podium.
02:11But, no, it's just surreal.
02:12And I think in a few days' time it will really hit home.
02:16Finally, we talked about it earlier when I spoke to you.
02:18Bragging rights at home.
02:19You've got gold.
02:20Megan's got bronze.
02:21That must be quite nice.
02:23Yeah, I mean, she's a two-time world champion and now I'm come off games champion.
02:27So, I don't know if that evens out.
02:28But it's good to at least come home with a brighter colour medal in hers.
02:33Well, I think you touched on you might be doing the Worlds later in October.
02:36I think you'll be a bit of a marked man now.
02:39Well, yeah, hopefully I'm selected.
02:40That should help my case.
02:41And, yeah, hopefully more success comes my way.
02:44I'll let you go and enjoy.
02:46And congratulations again, mate.
02:47Thank you very much.
