00:00I mean, come on, front office.
00:01What are you waiting on?
00:03Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:07All right, it's time for the crossover.
00:10Giddings in for Steinmetz alongside Guru.
00:12We got Dan Dibley back and Mark Mexico Willard.
00:16What's up, man?
00:17Willard back in the house, baby.
00:18You're looking tan.
00:19Well, I mean.
00:20I just got done looking at your IG.
00:21What's up?
00:22Yeah, the sun was out.
00:24That's what was out.
00:25The sun was out.
00:26They got the guns out, too.
00:27Yeah.
00:28You know, you got to scroll.
00:30We all say this, Will, and I'm going to give you a compliment.
00:32You're not Dibs and myself.
00:34You're like Stiney.
00:34When you leave, you leave.
00:36No call-ins.
00:37I'm out.
00:37Dibs, you know we like what we do.
00:39Yeah, I mean, we heard from him on Friday.
00:41Oh, I missed that.
00:42Well, it was the show thread, and it was when the LeBron thing happened.
00:45Yeah, I was at the airport.
00:46That don't care.
00:47At the airport.
00:48I was at the Cancun airport, and I got the notification, and I'm like, oh, trips over.
00:52You know what that was, right?
00:53That was the notification sensation.
00:54Cha-ching!
00:56Trips over, dreams over.
00:57Everything just crashed down into the rocks below, and we got on a plane and came home
01:03from paradise.
01:04Wow.
01:05Look, you had a ball, though, huh?
01:06Perfect.
01:07Absolutely perfect.
01:08Yeah.
01:08Evan and I have been having a ball.
01:10I got like eight things.
01:11We don't have enough time, but can I start with, well, first, it's got to be your thoughts
01:15on LeBron.
01:15Real quick, I also messed up something.
01:17By the way, the crossover is brought to you by Bay Alarm.
01:19Rest easy.
01:20We've got you covered.
01:21Bayalarm.com.
01:21Bayalarm.com.
01:22And you can do all eight, because, I mean, Captain 212 is not here.
01:27Evan, I was not sure.
01:29You all go until six.
01:30You guys are invited.
01:31And I'm not trying to keep Evan, you know, I'm not trying to keep Evan here against his
01:35bill.
01:35Well played.
01:36Yeah, well played.
01:37But, yeah, all eight.
01:39Well, we'll get to LeBron real quick.
01:41ESPN The Ocho.
01:42But this show turned into Dre, because, like Evan, I thought there was a wink-wink deal.
01:47I thought there was no chance in hell he would opt out at 27-5, 28 if you round up,
01:51right?
01:51And then now, they don't get LeBron.
01:54And Evan was thinking, I'm paraphrasing, maybe, you know, if they got Bron, the FO said this
02:01or that.
02:01But the fact now that he opted out gives the power back to the Warriors to say, hey, you
02:08know what?
02:08But 27-5 might be a little too steep, and we won't give you multiples.
02:13So, Will, I just look at you and divs like I've done Evan all day, is I'm a little fascinated
02:18because I think they don't have the guts to do that to Dre, nor will they.
02:23But then we play some sound from Draymond on his podcast saying, you know, nobody's patience
02:28has worn thin yet.
02:29But the scoreboard that he gave me, gave us just led me to believe, could the Warriors
02:35really play hardball with Day-Day?
02:38Are you guys under the impression that this wasn't all, all the scenarios were all already
02:44talked out before this happened?
02:46I mean...
02:47I just, I listened to a lot of your conversation about this today.
02:51Because we did think it was talked about.
02:53I don't know if it's one year or two years.
02:56I know everyone's seemingly on the same page that he will still be a Warrior this year.
03:00I have a hard time believing that Draymond would be that stupid and that the Warriors
03:06would be that underhanded.
03:08I don't, I just don't buy it.
03:10So Austin called this and used the word dirty.
03:12I got offended.
03:13That would be doing him dirty.
03:15That would completely be doing him dirty.
03:17Like, let him opt out and then be like...
03:22Turns out, you're gone.
03:24Or, take the minimum.
03:26No way!
03:27Like, who are we talking about here?
03:29This is the Warriors!
03:31And this is Draymond.
03:32So if they did that, and then I think that he has a podcast, I'm not sure.
03:38It's called Draymond Green.
03:39Right, so Draymond would go on his pod and say, yeah, you know, I told him I'd opt out
03:44based on them getting LeBron or somebody, and they didn't get him or anybody, and then
03:49they tried to lowball me?
03:51Like, Draymond would do daily, if not hourly, podcasts, and he would bury this organization,
03:58and he doesn't want to do that.
04:00They don't want that either, so I don't believe that that's even on the table.
04:04I just, it feels to me like a lot, and I've heard a lot of Warrior fans do this.
04:08I get it.
04:08Draymond's a unique situation and a unique guy, but I think, it sounds to me like some
04:15people are trying to create a soap opera that's not there.
04:19We're trying, like, ooh, now there's this move and this maneuver.
04:23I've all, and I could be wrong, but I certainly am under the impression that Draymond and the
04:29Warriors have been working together on this from the beginning and continue to.
04:32Because you use the word, like Austin, dirty and underhanded.
04:35Yeah.
04:36So that's what you think it would be.
04:37There's no basketball component to it.
04:39I mean, the guy's going to opt out to give you flexibility, and then when it doesn't
04:43go your way, you're going to turn around and jam a screwdriver in his back?
04:49Like, that just doesn't, I don't know.
04:51That doesn't sound like anything that we've seen from either of these sides before.
04:55We call it a shank in prison.
04:56Yeah.
04:56It's usually like a sharpened toothbrush, but I like the screwdriver as well.
05:00Yeah.
05:01And I love your bet about, like, is it one year?
05:05Is it one plus one?
05:06Oh, I think I'm good, yeah.
05:07With the player option.
05:08I don't know.
05:08Yeah?
05:09What's the bet?
05:10I think that Draymond's going to sign.
05:12So, I agree with you.
05:13I think he'll be on the team next year.
05:15I don't think they're going to turn heel.
05:17But I don't think it's a given that he gets multiple years.
05:19So, I think they're going to say, hey, you opted out of 27 and a half or whatever.
05:24We'll just give you it back.
05:25Because you were going to forego it to allow us the possibility to get LeBron.
05:28We didn't.
05:29So, here's your money back.
05:30And if it's two with the player option, count the bucket.
05:33Then do it.
05:33Because I'm saying it's going to be multiple.
05:35I could see either of those things happening.
05:38I don't know who's going to win that.
05:41The question for me right now, and you guys touched on this too, is, okay, so LeBron's
05:46gone, so why hasn't anything happened yet?
05:48That's all.
05:49And I know it was just fine.
05:50He said he doesn't even have a contract offer.
05:51Right.
05:52But he also did a little wink, wink.
05:53Like, nobody cares.
05:55He did mention that.
05:57I'm hopeful that that means the Warriors are still on the phone trying to do some
06:05things.
06:05And I'm not trying to.
06:06I don't know what it is that's left to do, but I would hope that that's the only
06:10reason there's a delay, not because the two sides are not on the same page.
06:15Evan, before you go, I just will say this, and I don't have the power to run him
06:18out of town.
06:19I don't want to run him out of town.
06:20I can't.
06:21But the bottom line is he's weeks removed for saying, and share it with us, his coach
06:26totem is getting tired.
06:27I'm getting tired.
06:28It's getting harder to defend you publicly, you know, by the minute.
06:32Okay, that's one thing.
06:33I've worked in corporate long enough to where it's happened to me.
06:36I'm not Draymond Green.
06:37Some people get phased out.
06:39Some people see it a mile away.
06:40Some people get phased out and have no idea that the phase was in process.
06:44And I'm just starting to wonder, you know, if this was a wink, wink, we got you.
06:49It's all love.
06:51You know, why hasn't anything happened?
06:53And for Evan to play that sound and him saying nothing's on the horizon, and you
06:58could be right.
06:58Something could happen by Thursday.
06:59I'm like, this would be a hell of a time for them to finally drop the hammer or just
07:04play hardball.
07:05You're coming back for one at 15, and he would cost himself 12 or 13 M's.
07:10Oh, gosh.
07:10I can't see that.
07:11I got you.
07:12That would be all time.
07:16Again, I would throw.
07:17But also, like, Draymond's too smart for that.
07:21There's no way he's opting out if he thought there was a possibility that the Warriors were
07:26going to do him like that.
07:27I hear you.
07:28I just can't see that.
07:29Well, do you think there was a possibility that he opted out before everyone else's cards
07:34had been played?
07:35Because he did it before Philly got Jalen Brown, before a couple of the dealings,
07:40and he could have been reading a chessboard that the positions changed completely.
07:44And it doesn't mean he's out in Golden State, but they're saying now, hey, look, I mean,
07:49the whole goal is to lower your number in the first place.
07:52And remember, Dunleavy said it's Draymond's choice, and it was apparently a surprise that
07:56he opted out in the first place.
07:58Maybe they spin it as, hey, look, we wanted to give him the one for 28, but this was his
08:04choice, and this is what he did.
08:05So as a result, we're going to try and do what's best for the franchise.
08:09I'd be stunned.
08:10And I mean, Draymond is such a smart businessman, and Rich Paul as well.
08:15I'd be shocked if it wasn't already put in place of, look, it's going to be a handshake
08:20agreement.
08:21I opt out.
08:22You go for LeBron, or you go for something else, whether it's DeMar DeRozan or, what,
08:27is James Harden still on sign?
08:29Westbrook.
08:30Westbrook, who Willard loves.
08:32Welcome back to America, Mark Russell Westbrook as a warrior.
08:35But I'd be stunned if Draymond and Rich Paul didn't have some sort of a handshake agreement
08:40of, look, you know, we're going to get 2-40 once you, you know, eventually figure out what
08:46you're going to do with the open roster spots, which they still have.
08:49And so that's why I think that he said in that quote you played earlier about, yeah,
08:54there's not a lot of edginess on either side.
08:57I do think that, you know, LeBron didn't happen, okay, and you're going to wait until
09:01all these other pieces either come to the Warriors or don't, and then you'll move forward
09:06from there.
09:07That's my, I mean, that's my take.
09:09Yeah, I mean, I think that also matters like how much, you know, Curry is involved or whatnot,
09:13because, you know, they haven't done much of anything to improve the team.
09:17The only team not to add a player via trade or free agency.
09:20You saw that graph.
09:26You couldn't even name the free agent that the Pelicans got, but that's fine.
09:30But still, still, it's a person, it's a human being.
09:34His name's Nick Smith, Jr.
09:35Great.
09:36What's the Warriors free agent name?
09:38Anthony Melton.
09:39No, it's their own free agent.
09:41It doesn't count.
09:42No, you know what, like, look, the Warriors have all the ability in the world right now
09:47to sort of, like, claim, hey, we're in this tough spot.
09:51Nobody wants to get rid of Steph.
09:53What do you really want us to do?
09:54And I guess they can play that card as long as possible, but my answer in this moment is
10:00you don't get to do nothing.
10:02Ooh.
10:03I'm sorry.
10:04Even if you're right, that's just, that's like not getting in the sandbox at all.
10:09This is entertainment.
10:11You cannot go 37 and 45 and do nothing.
10:16You just can't.
10:18And at least if what you want is the fans to, you know, quote, understand.
10:22Like, no.
10:24That's not what we're doing here.
10:25Do you think there's anybody that they missed out on in their pursuit of LeBron?
10:30Because it doesn't feel like they want to give up any draft picks, which is the quickest
10:33way to get better.
10:35And you do have to make a pitch to free agents to get them to come here.
10:39And a lot of them that signed elsewhere, I could completely see them just looking at the
10:43Warriors and be like, yeah, that's, I don't want to touch that with a 10-foot pole.
10:47I guess I, like, who would, the timing of, of what names?
10:52Well, no, I'm just like a lot of the smaller guys and people that wouldn't move the needle,
10:55but even let's say.
10:56You know, the Anthony Simons kind of thing.
10:57If I'm Simons, I'd rather sign with the Sixers.
11:01You know, if I'm, who was the guy who went to the Lakers?
11:03Colin Sexton.
11:04I'm Sexton.
11:05Yeah, he'd be a nice fit for the Warriors.
11:07He could, you know, off-ball kind of hybrid guard, but he's got to pick the Warriors.
11:12And he didn't.
11:13Damn, Will, so where do, whose doorstep do you put that, you can't do nothing at?
11:18Is that Mike D, Joe, both?
11:20Everybody, sure.
11:21Like, whoever's in charge of doing this.
11:24Like, you can't do nothing.
11:26And that's what they did.
11:28You know, and the season doesn't start tomorrow, and Draymond hasn't been re-signed,
11:32and I'm going to until I am notified otherwise.
11:35Him and GP2 coming back.
11:36I mean, but I'm going to believe that it's because they feel like they're still having conversations.
11:41You know what I mean?
11:42Maybe tomorrow there's a big trade that we just didn't see coming.
11:46I have no idea.
11:47But I have to believe that they're smarter than that.
11:53You can't leave with a press conference that says we need more people who can play back-to-backs,
11:59and then the only thing you do is draft a guy?
12:03That's it?
12:04Two guys, yeah.
12:05Sure.
12:06One of them's going to be on the team, and one of them might.
12:09But you still have three roster spots.
12:11I want to see what you do with them.
12:13And the old expression of you don't put all your eggs in one basket.
12:17If you do and the basket slips out of your hand and all your eggs break, well, now you've got
12:22a bunch of yolks and a bunch of egg whites in a basket,
12:25and it's useless.
12:26So did they put all their eggs in one basket?
12:28Maybe.
12:29Or they might have a couple of eggs in the other basket because the basket they had was the LeBron
12:34basket,
12:35and that basket is now in Philadelphia.
12:38So either you have a couple more eggs that you're willing to fire off to do something,
12:42or you're going to go back to Draymond and sign him,
12:45and then you're going to look at, what, a couple of vet men, nobodies,
12:49maybe Nick Smith III, Nick Smith's son or younger brother?
12:54I don't know.
12:54You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGFZFM, NHT1, San Francisco, and Odyssey Sports Station,
12:58always live in the free Odyssey app, and now broadcasting from the Latham Monk Studios.
13:02It's funny because, you know, I think understandably framed the whole pursuit as being all in on LeBron,
13:09but financially speaking, it wasn't really an all-in move for anyone.
13:13I mean, he could make it worse for any team.
13:15That's what makes him not come in worse.
13:16It was so cheap.
13:17Agree, and that's why the Sixers, I think, won the sweepstakes.
13:20But if you're the Warriors, it wasn't like you were maneuvering and kind of clearing cap space
13:27and changing your entire roster to fit LeBron.
13:30It was like, okay, so if LeBron didn't come here, you're just going to bite the $6 million
13:36or whatever it was that you were going to give him in the first place and just move into next
13:39year?
13:40Because that's what it feels like.
13:42It's been 27 days since the start of the new year, league year,
13:46and the Warriors are still left with as much flexibility and optionality
13:50is coming in.
13:52Be honest.
13:53You text Bob?
13:54Yeah.
13:54Oh, constantly.
13:55That's material, right?
13:57No, no, no.
13:57I mean, look.
13:58He was in Mexico.
13:59He had no idea.
14:00He texted Bob.
14:01Do you have a bet going or something?
14:02No, no.
14:03I just had literally a thought that just popped into my head.
14:06It just popped into my head.
14:07I talked to Susan.
14:08No, yeah.
14:09Oh, you talked to Bob's assistant.
14:11His AI.
14:11No, no, no.
14:12Did you?
14:12So, yeah, tell him.
14:13What else?
14:14You can tell him.
14:15No, no, you tell him because I don't know the exact back.
14:17I talked to Susan.
14:19I got to counter me.
14:21I texted Bob Friday morning when the news broke.
14:24I'm driving in.
14:25Evan and I, of course, I'm on the bridge talking about the Giants.
14:29Let's come out with Vitello.
14:30And all I see is a response from Evan.
14:32Bron news broke.
14:33And then my eyes go down.
14:35I write another bubble as he's writing G-O-L-D-E-N.
14:38You know, I'm thinking it's Golden State.
14:40It's Philly.
14:41And I just, I was hurt.
14:43So, I text Myers.
14:44And it read, you're a bad dude.
14:47And he texts back, thanks, my man.
14:49We'll get in touch soon.
14:50So, I said it about eight times on the show.
14:53People were having fun with it.
14:54I did not know that.
14:55Not to brag.
14:56But just, that's another facet to this.
14:58There might have been a few sniffs in that show.
15:00So, I mean, he probably texts me back.
15:03How long did he take to text you back?
15:04Two seconds.
15:06He came right back.
15:07That's a sniff, man.
15:08But, man, that part of it will, to me, I know I'm different.
15:11That just made it worse that whatever he's doing in whatever capacity in Philly, you're in.
15:17And then he went on Rich Paul's podcast.
15:19And in front of everybody, showed you how to talk to a girl on the fly.
15:22Saying, all I would tell Bron is, you know, you can win here.
15:25And then, you know, Warrior fans, naturally, do you have that in your persona, you know?
15:31I hope Bob is enjoying the time with his family that he's spending for why he left the Golden State
15:38Warriors.
15:38Bron, not Bob, right?
15:40Bob, yeah.
15:40I don't know.
15:41You get three, Bob.
15:43He didn't want to miss his kids growing up, right?
15:45I thought you were talking about Bron.
15:46That's pretty good, dude.
15:47No, because he came out and, you know, Zuri, you know, I go home and Zuri says, where are you
15:51going, Dad?
15:52I'm going with you.
15:53Did you see the report today?
15:54Shams did a whole report on ESPN about how the decision to go to Philly was about family.
16:01And I'm like, I'd like to click on this.
16:04And basically, he goes through all of the same stuff we've now heard him say 48 million times over the
16:10last three weeks.
16:11And in the end, he goes, all he needed was just the sign off from Savannah.
16:17And then he goes through all the kids' names because he knows the kids' names.
16:20And so, he says, once they were good, then LeBron was comfortable going to Philadelphia.
16:27I go, that doesn't mean it was about family.
16:29That just means that he wanted permission.
16:32Bob was brought up.
16:33Yeah.
16:34I'm glad.
16:35Yeah, I mean, I actually don't think he had to work that hard because the dude who he put in
16:40place got Jalen Brown.
16:42And the guy who he put in place, which we've learned, is Mike Gansey, by the way.
16:48He played basketball at LeBron High School.
16:51Number two behind Mr. Ohio.
16:53Within a couple months, the guy that Bob put in place pulls this off.
16:56And Myers obviously helped.
16:57But, like, he couldn't do that here.
17:00I mean, if he was still in this position, he wouldn't have been able to do that.
17:03I think that's what happened on Friday and the buildup to it, to me, is the exact reason why he
17:09left.
17:09I guess the reason I playfully throw that out there is not even about what Bob's role in this.
17:15Because we already know that Bob's a very good executive.
17:17And I feel like he's had about four other jobs before he got to this one since leaving the Warriors.
17:24Commanders.
17:24Commanders.
17:25ESPN.
17:26He got all this stuff going on.
17:28So that's great.
17:29We already knew Bob was really good at his job.
17:30What popped into my head, though, was I never, ever believe it when someone says,
17:36especially when they're, like, 48 years old or whatever he was.
17:39Oh, wow.
17:40I'm leaving the Warriors to spend time with my family.
17:42I'm like, no, you're not.
17:43No, you're not.
17:44So what went into my head was, and this is speculative, why do you think he left the Warriors?
17:51Because it was a bear working for the owner.
17:54It was burnt out.
17:55Yep.
17:55Okay.
17:57I mean.
17:58Anything?
17:59I mean, that's obvious.
18:01Well.
18:02Yeah.
18:02I mean, honestly, in the moment, I thought the same thing.
18:05I mean, he's just going to work for other billionaires.
18:07But the joke at the time was, you know, he gets nine calls a day.
18:10Yep.
18:11And so, you know, you look at your phone, it's like, oh, Joe Lacob is on the phone.
18:15Okay.
18:16So maybe you don't take it because, you know, you're in the sauna or whatever, and then
18:20you let it go to voicemail, and 90 seconds later, the call comes in again.
18:23It's like, I need to take this call because he won't stop.
18:26And so you take the call, and it's, you know, something about something.
18:30And then 90 minutes later, you get a call.
18:32And then later at night, it's 10, 14, and you're watching Game of Thrones, and the phone
18:36rings, and the phone rings, and the phone rings, and the phone rings, and it rings and
18:39rings and rings.
18:40And so, like, you work for the man.
18:43You have to take it.
18:44At some point, though, you're thinking, you know what?
18:46If I block him and, you know, leave the job, it won't happen anymore.
18:51I don't know.
18:52I guess my response to that, though, because I imagine that many sports billionaires are
18:58probably built that way, at least to a degree.
19:01I've never met Josh Harris.
19:03That's the guy in front of the Philadelphia Sixers.
19:07Maybe he's a little over the top as well.
19:10I got to think it's partially whether it's Joe could be exhausting and hard to work for.
19:17But what's the situation?
19:19What's the job?
19:21What are the assets?
19:22What do I have here to work with with the Golden State Warriors?
19:26And it was pretty grim, if I get what you're putting down.
19:28I mean, we didn't know that then.
19:30I don't think we felt that way yet then.
19:33They were still not that far removed from a championship.
19:36But the assets were the assets.
19:38And if part of the job was, okay, we have the number two pick in the draft, and you're
19:43thinking, all right, I'm going to roll up my sleeves, and maybe you don't get to make
19:47the pick.
19:47Maybe you get overruled on the pick.
19:50And it becomes a bit of an emasculation sensation, if that's the way that that played out.
19:57I want that.
19:58And like I said, I know that this is, it calls for complete speculation.
20:02But it's fair.
20:03Popped into my head as Jalen Brown and LeBron James both go to Philly for Paul George, a
20:10couple of picks, and a minimum contract.
20:13Like, that's chess.
20:14Well, and that's the piece about it that I'm fascinated by is the Boston piece where
20:18were Tatum and Jalen Brown so unable to, like, stay together?
20:23Or, like, what was so broken in Boston that those two could no longer be teammates?
20:27Go ahead, Evan, because I tried to school Evan on that with the IG post from Jalen Brown
20:35yesterday.
20:36As Tatum was telling kids at a camp how to be a leader and whatnot, and Jalen Brown comes
20:42over the top saying the difference in happiness is people knowing when you're a leader are not
20:48him, H-I-M, and it was kind of geared toward Tatum's, you know, speech.
20:53And I don't know if there was jealousy from Tatum not getting NBA Finals MVP that Brown
20:58got, but there's something going on now.
21:01And, you know, kid alive, I'm reading the comments, like, oh, my gosh, they're just going
21:06at each other.
21:07So that's why that happened.
21:08It feels deeper than just Tatum and Brown to me.
21:11It felt, this feels more like Brown v. organization.
21:15Because it turned into that as well.
21:16That was another no doubt.
21:18Or Brown v. new ownership and how much money he was owed.
21:21But I think it's interesting that apparently there was no one else in pursuit, you know,
21:26because, like, to your point, the offer wasn't that much, just kind of like the Luka Doncic
21:30deal went down in the dark, and you're thinking, oh, nobody else could get in line to give you
21:35up a better option for a player that you then traded the next year for a couple of protected
21:39picks.
21:40Like, yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense.
21:41Well, and this is one where I'll defend Dunleavy and the Warriors, where you would not have
21:46been in on the Jalen Brown sweepstakes.
21:47No, I don't think so either.
21:49Because Boston's not taking your injured 36-year-old, at times, the gruntled person.
21:54They would if you had added two more picks.
21:57Right, but they don't, then you lose your, Grandy, optionality, Grandy.
22:02Oh, that word.
22:03Yeah, Grandy, last week we did a whole thing on optionality, and every time I'd mention it,
22:07Grandy was doing the dry heave noise.
22:10When you were out three weeks ago, he was in when the Jalen Brown thing broke.
22:14Oh, yeah.
22:15Grandy was.
22:15Yeah.
22:15And it got hot.
22:17Because he wanted it.
22:17And he should have got hot.
22:19He wanted it.
22:19Well, but for four picks?
22:21No.
22:22No.
22:23Well, that's to you.
22:24I don't think they wanted a broken player back, personally.
22:28That's my point.
22:28Yeah.
22:29That's just me.
22:30I mean.
22:30You mean Boston?
22:31Yeah.
22:31We had no Paul George.
22:33I mean, Paul George's kind of broken, but anyway, I get what you're saying.
22:36His jump shot wasn't, he shot 60% against the 60s.
22:40He doesn't play a whole lot of basketball games either, but yeah.
22:42He doesn't just do it, Joel Embiid, but he's still going to be out there.
22:45I think the whole point was like, the Warriors, even though they preach optionality, they want
22:52to maintain optionality.
22:54Hasn't this summer told us that they actually don't have a lot of optionality?
22:58What does that even mean in the NBA anymore?
23:00Get creative.
23:01It means next year you've got a bunch of salary that you can spend and you've got picks.
23:05On who?
23:05Right now, they don't.
23:06Go around the league and tell me what good player has joined his current team just as
23:11a flat free agent.
23:12I'll give you Jalen Brunson.
23:14Give me the next name.
23:15Yeah, not a lot.
23:17It doesn't happen anymore.
23:18So what is this whole we're going to go shopping thing?
23:21There's nothing at the store.
23:23If you're going to be a free agent and you want to leave your team, you say something
23:27a year or two ahead of time, just like Giannis just did, and that team trades you so that
23:33they can get something back on their asset.
23:35Nobody lets the top players hit free agency anymore.
23:40Honestly, unless they're 42 years old.
23:42It doesn't happen.
23:44That's my question, and this is more for business people in the NBA.
23:48What does We've Got a Bunch of Capspace mean?
23:52Brooklyn has had it for three years.
23:54What have they done with it?
23:55And how confident are you in Mike Dunley?
23:57I won't call him Mike D.
23:58Shout out Beastie Boys.
23:59People get mad at Mike Dunley.
24:00How confident are you?
24:01He could get it right if he had the black amics.
24:04You know?
24:04I mean, we'll see.
24:05He was able to get the Jimmy Butler trade to happen.
24:08That happened.
24:09Honestly, I think this whole thing that we are currently dealing with is because he got
24:13hurt.
24:14Jimmy Butler, you traded for him.
24:16It worked.
24:17It's hurting more later than when he initially got hurt to me, if that makes sense.
24:20And I didn't see that at the beginning.
24:22Well, I think it hurts all the same because you trade for him.
24:25You give him the big deal.
24:26And, you know, the whole season goes the way it goes.
24:30Steph gets hurt.
24:31And, like, Jimmy comes back.
24:31It's like, okay, I think this can actually work.
24:34And then it was kind of working early.
24:36And then Jimmy Butler gets hurt.
24:37And now it's like, oh, boy, we're stuck with a year and a half of an injured 36-year-old.
24:42Like, that, to me, is what changed everything for the team.
24:45I think the answer to your question would be depth.
24:48Like, that's what cap space gets you.
24:49It's not going to get you your superstar.
24:51You have to trade for that.
24:52But you have to be willing to then pay them.
24:54And even a team like the Knicks, who did trade for most of their guys, they obviously
24:59signed Brunson.
24:59He's a little bit of an outlier and took less money.
25:01But those guys were then given contract extensions once they got there.
25:06So I think that's where the cap relief comes into play.
25:08It's not like, all right, you know, Nikola Jokic is going to be a free agent technically
25:13because he hasn't signed an extension in the year 2027.
25:16It's, all right, no, we can trade, keep him, and then go be able to add pieces around him
25:21that would make us a viable location in a trade for a superstar.
25:25I think that's what I get it.
25:27I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I heard what you're putting down.
25:30But I, you know what I mean?
25:32This, and I think it rightfully scares people when the reports come out.
25:38And I don't know how, you know, if this is an accurate portrayal of exactly what gets
25:43discussed behind the scenes.
25:44But if Joe Lacob is tremendously activated by the idea of proving to everybody that he
25:51can still have an awesome organization after Steph Curry, that's a scary thought.
25:58And that's what I got scared when I read my, um, well, but that's Marcus Thompson's piece
26:02in the athletic last three lottery.
26:05Thinking Steph was in, but I read that article, Steph wasn't there yet, but I'm wondering
26:09how much of this Steph, the chef can take.
26:12And we'll find out Evan and I talked about it with the extension.
26:15If the chef's like, you know, let's just table that for, for the time being, but man,
26:20oh man, what's he thinking?
26:21And watching LeBron and all these others go deep in April and playing the finals and
26:26we got to play in the plan.
26:28Like that has to matter to him.
26:30It depends on what really matters because he can opt in or he can get an extension for
26:34probably 67 or 68 million and continue to live down there in, you know, Los Altos Hills
26:40or Woodside or wherever it is.
26:42Evan, you got to go, huh?
26:44What?
26:44Because I got something I really want to get their thoughts on, but if you can't, we'll do
26:48it tomorrow.
26:48Well, they have four hours.
26:50How long do you have?
26:52Four minutes?
26:53What do you got?
26:54He's going to go.
26:54He can go.
26:55Yeah.
26:56No, but then I mess your clock up.
26:58No.
26:58The clock is our clock.
27:00Yeah.
27:00Clock, clock, clock, clock, clock.
27:01Well, it's 2-14.
27:02What do you got?
27:03Questions.
27:05Thank the Lord that you, Kyle Shanahan, were in car accidents myself and we made it through.
27:12And he was in a horrific car accident.
27:15So, what I'm about to say in Get Out is I just have questions about the media and this
27:22cycle in our world right now where everybody knows everything.
27:26TMZ, stuff that you even shouldn't know.
27:29It's just there.
27:30So, am I wrong?
27:31This isn't a Kyle thing.
27:33I'm fascinated on how he got in a high-profile guy, got in an accident, and we didn't know
27:41for 11 days and some media knew.
27:44But, man, the power to have that, whatever word, and Kyle's in the hospital, so I'm not
27:50even, how does that happen to where a coach gets into an accident of that magnitude and
27:56is squashed and the team says they think it's best if we announce it day one of training
28:01camp.
28:02So, social media, I get the questions on how that could happen is all that's going through
28:09my mind.
28:10And I tried to beat up Evan today on, I'm blown away that this was kept secret.
28:14And I hope I'm not sounding like I'm being nosy because I'm not.
28:17But just the way that they suppress the story is a first for me.
28:22And I'm like, wow.
28:24Is that just me?
28:25It's not just you.
28:26And Mark and I were having this conversation out there.
28:29And, you know, a little bit of his like the Andrew Wiggins thing where, you know, Wiggins
28:33has gone for whatever, half a year.
28:35Like, what could it be?
28:37Speculation runs rampant.
28:38And Mark's always been like, I don't even want to know.
28:40I don't need to know.
28:41And I don't need to know this, but I'm also with you.
28:44Like, how did this 11 days because he did go to the hospital.
28:49And so I'm sure there were paramedics and people in the hospital who are looking and
28:53saying, you're Kyle Shanahan and stuff.
28:55And whoever the other driver was who apparently was not hurt, that person probably was aware
29:01that he crashed with Kyle Shanahan.
29:04So that's the part of it to me is really interesting.
29:07Like, how did this all not get out?
29:10And we don't, Evan, I'm not trying to be nosy.
29:12It's not.
29:13It's just how did this story get suppressed?
29:16Will?
29:16Yeah, I mean, the how, listen, I get bummed out when things like this happen in 2026
29:25and we count to five and then start arguing about something that's other than is Kyle okay.
29:33Which is the number one thing.
29:35If Kyle Shanahan, who, and we hear today through Chris Sims, the pictures of this accident were
29:42not pretty.
29:43Oh, I mean, we're talking not pretty like someone almost lost an eye.
29:50That tells me he, he probably even still to this moment is probably sitting there going,
29:55I damn near die.
29:58And if that person would prefer that that is kept private, I don't have an issue with that.
30:05I understand journalism.
30:07I understand people's desire.
30:09I get that he's a public figure.
30:11I get that it could end up affecting week one in Australia and all of these things.
30:15But to me, if somebody, I go back to, you asked me the day after my car accident.
30:22Because it was real.
30:23But nobody got a scratch on him.
30:25And you asked me if it was okay that we talked about it on the air.
30:29And it's like, I would hope that this is the same thing happening with Kyle.
30:34You know what I mean?
30:34If that family was.
30:35The authorities, it was like, this ain't a Kyle decision to me.
30:39It's like, naturally how.
30:40I mean, somebody could have chased, I guess.
30:44But at the same time, their details are fuzzy.
30:47I hear you.
30:47You want someone to report fuzzy details?
30:50I don't know.
30:50Well, we're happy you're back from Mexico.
30:53Happy to be back.
30:54And Willard and Dibbs are coming up next on 95.7 The Game.
