00:44So they're both kind of similar because when I walked in the prison on my first day, I was like,
00:49damn, man, you are a loser.
00:53And I had the same damn feeling every day I walked through the door with a Jets. I'm like, bang.
00:59I hope we can win this weekend. Losing.
01:05I mean, you can't make that up if you try. That's only the Jets. Flexico Paris comparing his time
01:13in prison to his time playing for the New York Jets and his appearance on the joint venture show
01:19with Lil Wayne and Craig Carton. It's a real sentence. That happened. That is the type of mentality
01:26surrounding this franchise in the stench of the Woody Johnson losing culture that Aaron Glenn is looking
01:33to overcome in year two. And let's be honest here. All the pressure in the world is on Aaron Glenn.
01:40I think that Aaron Glenn 2.0 must be a 180 from last year or there's going to be a
01:49new head coach
01:50next year for training camp for Gang Green. And I say that as someone who has been Aaron Glenn's
01:56biggest supporter. I love the hire. I thought Aaron Glenn should have been a head coach in the NFL
02:02a long time ago. Super smarts, unbelievable defensive mind. Everyone in the NFL loves him.
02:08And I was foaming at the mouth, chomping at the bit, campaigning for Aaron Glenn to be a head coach
02:14five years before the Jets hired him. Last year was a disaster. Any way you want to measure a head
02:20coach,
02:21wins and losses, how you handle the quarterback, in-game clock management, how to use timeouts,
02:27how to handle the press, how to handle yourself as a head coach on the sideline, every possible way,
02:34fourth quarter execution, toughness. It was a complete and utter disaster. If Aaron Glenn doesn't
02:41get it together this season, it's over. And here's the deal. The New York Jets are brilliantly set up
02:48for 2027. And if Aaron Glenn goes, this will be a really attractive job. Seriously. Darren Mugy,
02:57the general manager, is fantastic. I think the roster is absolutely ready to rock and roll for 2027.
03:03And I thought Mugy had a terrific offseason. I want you to just stare at this for a second.
03:10Geno Smith, love it. Absolutely love it. We love this move, our very first Shine Time show.
03:16This is a terrific acquisition. Think about Geno, what he did in Seattle. Forget about the Raiders.
03:22Everything was a disaster last year. Talked to Demario Davis on my SiriusXM radio show. He's
03:27excited for his third tenure with the Jets. Still at age 37, a tackling machine. Phenomenal.
03:34Absolutely sensational. And then take a look at some of the rookies. Bailey, Sadiq, who's a certified
03:41freak and Omar Cooper Jr. This was absolutely a slam dunk out of this world. Incredible, incredible
03:49draft. I thought Mugy slammed it out of the park. Not to mention the Jets offensive line
03:55is strong. Not to mention Brees Hall got paid worth every single penny. I think Brees Hall is
04:01one of the best running backs in the National Football League. And I think he's going to have
04:05a monster season. And I don't think Brees Hall gets enough credit for being an excellent all-around
04:11ball player. Run the ball, power, speed, great hands. He's the entire package, what you want at the
04:17running back position. I think Garrett Wilson is going to emerge as a top 10 wide receiver in the NFL.
04:23I think he is terrific. I think if you look at the Jets at the skilled positions, whether you talk
04:28about established players, young players, the Jets have really good running backs, wide receivers,
04:36tight ends. The defense has dudes. I like what they did with Minka Fitzpatrick. You saw him on the
04:42additions list. They have established guys who can get to the quarterback, which leads me back to Aaron
04:49Glenn. It is actually all there for the New York Jets to be solid, to be relevant, to, at the
04:57end of the
04:58day, avoid jokes and punchlines and comparisons to prison. Jets fans must have felt like they were
05:06in jail, in living hell, watching the Jets one year ago, because Aaron Glenn couldn't coach his way out of
05:13a paper bag. I think everything matters for the Jets this year. First of all, I think the over-under
05:19for wins, I like the over. Second of all, I'm just telling you right here, right now, at Tennessee,
05:25Robert Sala, right, former Jet coach, who Glenn replaced. That's a new coach for the Tennessee
05:30Titans. That's how the Jets start the season, on the road in Tennessee. Then they have a home game.
05:37Week two, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers, and there will be no Micah Parsons because he's
05:42going to be hurt. The New York Jets, we're raising the bar, should start the season 2-0. I'm just
05:48telling
05:48you right now, and I want Aaron Glenn to put his stamp on this team. So far in the off
05:54-season,
05:54there's been no drama, no nonsense, no leaks, no Jets shenanigans. I really think the New York
06:01Jets, it is set up for them to be successful. And if it's not, you're going to see a new
06:06head coach.
06:07And then it'll be all there when it's all said and done for someone else to take this team to
06:11a
06:11different level. I want to see Geno Smith play well. I want to see Cade Klobnik, who they drafted
06:17on day three, who I think could be either a stopgap starter eventually or a solid starter in the NFL,
06:23but certainly a backup quarterback for the future for the Jets. I want to see how Aaron Glenn handles
06:28him. We're paying attention to everything for Aaron Glenn because I love the hire. I love Aaron Glenn
06:35as a player. Loved him as a former Jet. Thought there was going to be a D'Amico Ryan's kind
06:39of quotient
06:39to this in terms of, hey, return to your old stomping grounds. You know where the bodies are
06:43buried. You know the good. You know the bad. You know what you have to deal with in terms of
06:47ownership. Last year is a disaster. If Glenn fails and those issues that you start looking at,
06:54I think that you're going to see a new head coach for the Jets. Start the season 2-0. Beat
06:59the Titans.
07:00Beat the Green Bay Packers without Micah Parsons. That's what I want to see for Gang Green.
07:05Otherwise, if Glenn doesn't get it together, there'll be a new head coach for the Jets.
07:11Meanwhile, there's a new head coach for the Giants, John Harbaugh, who's entering his first season
07:18at MetLife Stadium.
07:20I'm standing up here in front of the New York Giants. The New York Giants.
07:27It's the New York Giants sitting in this room. The New York Giants.
07:33Wow. It's an honor. It's an honor to stand in front of this room right now.
07:39I know those coaches, but I can feel the same way. Right, coaches?
07:42It's an honor, man.
07:45I got to tell you, I had to have people who were part of the Shine Time team pitch me
07:49on
07:50that soundbite because it apparently was controversial. Why was this a speech that got
07:57mixed reviews? I watched it three times. I don't understand how anyone could be critical
08:04of John Harbaugh. And I know that's something that was out there, you know, just a couple
08:09of days ago, but it's from the start of minicamp when Harbaugh's talking to the team in April.
08:13Now here we are as the Giants report to training camp today. Anyone who's being critical of John
08:19Harbaugh for that speech or for anything, you're a hater. You're a loser. This guy's a winner.
08:26And Harbaugh is everything that is right with the New York football Giants. John Harbaugh,
08:32right guy, right time. The Giants have been the Jets for the last decade. The Giants have been
08:39a clown show, a disaster. Since they got rid of my guy, Tom Coughlin, it's been, you know,
08:46just absolutely grasping at straws. I mean, we're talking Shermer and Judge and McAdoo and Dayball.
08:54And I like Dayball, but he, at the end of the day, had to go, right? I mean, John Harbaugh's
08:59a winner. He's a Hall of Famer. He's the right guy at the right time. And he had to go
09:03at the
09:04end in Baltimore. We've talked about that. But as the Giants get ready for day one of Camp
09:09Harbaugh, how could you not love it? You got to be inspired. And I think that you're going to see
09:15the New York football Giants be a really solid football team this year. They're going to be
09:20buttoned up. They have all eyes on someone who's been there, won that before in John Harbaugh. This
09:27is not, you know, the Maris, the Titius. It's not Joe Shane's New York football Giants. It's John
09:32Harbaugh's Giants. And it better be Jackson Dart's Giants. It better be, at the end of the day,
09:38Jackson Dart's football team. Because I think Jackson Dart has everything you want at the
09:45quarterback position. And I think in terms of his arm, his athleticism, his intelligence, his moxie,
09:52his swagger, his likability, his watchability. Look, the Giants for a decade have not only been bad,
09:59the Giants at the end of the day, they have been unwatchable. This year, you take a look at the
10:05schedule. And honestly, you see the New York football Giants and you say, I see eight, nine,
10:1110 wins. Problem for the Giants, Dallas and the Rams to start the season. Honestly, I think those are the
10:17two teams that frankly are going to end up playing on championship Sunday. But then when you look at
10:22that stretch with Tennessee and Arizona and Washington, I like the Saints this year,
10:26that's a home game for the Giants. It's not crazy to say the Giants should be able first six weeks
10:32of
10:32the season. This is how we're going to draw it up. Start the season four and two. That's what we're
10:37looking for. I think all eyes are on Malik neighbors. When you look at it, all eyes are on neighbors
10:42for
10:43this training camp in terms of his health and what he can do. I would feel better about picking the
10:49Giants week one against Dallas. If neighbors could play simple as that. If he can't, I'll probably pick
10:55the Dallas Cowboys to win that game. I think neighbors is a stud. I thought the Giants had
11:01a terrific offseason. I love bringing in Isaiah Likely, who Harbaugh had in Baltimore. There's
11:06great depth. There's great talent when you look at it on the offensive skill positions. The one issue
11:12I have, though, is Cam Scadaboo. Scadaboo, at the end of the day, who can't stay healthy, doing backflips
11:19at the Fanatics Fest when he's coming off a surgery? What is this, amateur hour? And you
11:25could tell Harbaugh did an interview with our friend Bob Popper and our friend Carl Banks.
11:29He wasn't happy with Scadaboo, and I hope that Cam got that message. Look, when you analyze this
11:36defense, I think it's vastly improved. I love what the Giants did in the draft. I love what they did
11:41when you take a look at the offensive line. The additions for the Giants were tremendous in the
11:46offseason. It was purposeful. I think that Burns and company are going to generate a terrific pass
11:51rush. Look, obviously, I would have loved if Sexy Dexy was still on this team. He don't want to be
11:57a
11:57Giant anymore. They made an excellent deal, and they got a couple of outstanding picks in the top
12:0310 of the NFL draft. So I'm energized here when it comes to John Harbaugh, energized when it comes to
12:10Harbaugh and what he brings to the table, energized in terms of the energy, the discipline,
12:16the attention to detail. This is not going to be a team that is just going to be unwatchable and
12:23do unfathomably awful things when it matters the most in second halves of games. I am so excited
12:29for the Giants. I don't want to hear anyone ripping Harbaugh or his camp opening speech or
12:34anything like that. Let me tell you something. John Harbaugh is a gem. John Harbaugh is the right guy,
12:41right time when it comes to the New York football Giants. And honestly, if you're a Giants fan,
12:47you can't get enough. Coming up next, George Pickens has arrived at what is being called a
12:52drama-free Cowboys camp. Daniel Jones says he is fully cleared as Colts practices get underway.
13:00He's Mike Vrabel already beefing with A.J. Brown. And as Vida Vea requests a trade out of Tampa,
13:07is the Buccaneers season over before it even starts? Keep it locked on Shine Time.
13:13Take a look at this. George Pickens has arrived at Dallas Cowboys camp in lovely Oxnard, California,
13:20reported to be okay as the only player in the NFL is going to play this year on the franchise
13:25tag. And
13:26if that's the case, this is going to be the first drama-free Cowboy camp that we've seen in a
13:33long
13:33time. Think about prior camps, right? The ongoing contract spats for Dak Prescott and Zach Martin
13:42and C.D. Lamb. And remember the summer of Ezekiel Elliott and when he went to Cabo and then Jerry
13:48gave him that bag for no reason? The Micah Parsons drama last year? So what does this all mean for
13:55the
13:55Dallas Cowboys this season? Well, how about this? Everything. This is the first time in ages that
14:02the Dallas Cowboys have no issues, no drama, no contractual spats, no holdouts, no hold-ins,
14:10no garbage, no nonsense. This is the first time where you, if you're a fan of the Cowboys,
14:16you're not daydreaming of what could have been, what should have been in the offseason.
14:19I was the one who did the interview with Derrick Henry a few years ago when he said he would
14:24have
14:24loved to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but they didn't want him. They didn't pick up the phone.
14:29So he went to Baltimore. You look at the Cowboys now, smooth sailing. And I think the Dallas Cowboys
14:36are going to have a terrific, terrific season. George Pickens and the way that Jerry Jones and
14:42Steven Jones handled this, they deserve a lot of credit. George Pickens, top four receiver in the NFL
14:48by every single measuring stick last season. I love George Pickens. And Jerry and Steven understand
14:54that at the end of the day, George Pickens, great player, doesn't always give a damn. Go back to that
15:00Thursday night Lions game last year where he gave up on a couple of routes. So you had to franchise
15:05him.
15:06And if you're George Pickens, you sign it and you report early to minicamp and to training camp and you
15:12don't hold out because you're going to get fined. And George Pickens, if he's motivated by both in
15:18order, getting paid and winning, benefits the Dallas Cowboys. Because Pickens is your number
15:24two receiver. C.D. Lamb is your number one. C.D. Lamb to me is a top four wide receiver
15:28in the NFL.
15:29C.D. Lamb was hurt for a portion of last year. This is going to be the second best one
15:34-two punch
15:35at wide receiver. I think Cincinnati's better with Chase and Higgins. And there's a real case that this
15:40could end up being the best one-two punch at wide receiver in the league. Lamb is superb. Lamb has
15:45the chops for the big moments in the NFL. And Dak Prescott is an absolute great player. He's a star.
15:52Doesn't always get the credit that he deserves. Listen, we did our top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL
15:56for 2026 a couple of weeks ago on Shine Time. And we had Dak Prescott number six in the league.
16:03He is a terrific leader, super smart, makes every throw. And I just think the world of Dak Prescott
16:10the offensive line remains strong. The running back position is really solid with Williams and
16:16company. There's some excellent depth. Fergie at the tight end position. And that defense is
16:22vastly improved. They bring in Christian Parker to run the defense, replace the overmatch Matt
16:26Eberflus. I love what they did in the draft. They crushed it a plus plus. And Caleb Downs could be
16:32the
16:33rookie of the year when it's all said and done. I still can't believe that they stole him in the
16:37NFL
16:37draft. And I'm telling you, the Dallas Cowboys are winning the NFC East. They are on paper better
16:45than the Philadelphia Eagles. And I was at this time last year, if they ultimately got something
16:51done with Micah Parsons, I would have picked Dallas to beat Philadelphia in the division. They didn't.
16:55So I had to back off that take. And listen, obviously, Philly was able to win the division.
17:00But think about all those games that Dallas played where if they would have had Micah Parsons,
17:05things would have been different. Now, the defense has a real coordinator. Quinn Williams,
17:11full season with the Dallas Cowboys. I love that pass rush. Love that defensive line.
17:18Love what they have at the cornerback position. And the Dallas Cowboys are going to win the NFC East.
17:23The Dallas Cowboys haven't played on Championship Sunday in 30 years since 96. The Dallas Cowboys are
17:31going to play on Championship Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys have a real shot to get to the Super Bowl.
17:38If I was doing a shine time power rankings, I would have the Dallas Cowboys as the second best team
17:44at the start of training camp behind the L.A. Rams and the NFC. That's my going into training camp
17:51NFC power rankings. Rams, number one. Dallas Cowboys, number two. So I think that when you look at the
17:58Dallas Cowboys and you look at what they bring to the table, I know that there are Cowboys fans who
18:04like to be, you know, in the past on Planet Delusional where you think, oh, this is the year
18:09and we're going to be great. And you've got to trust in the star. And you start dreaming about
18:14Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman or Emmitt Smith or Michael Irvin. That's a lifetime ago. This time
18:20around, it matters. This time around, it's real. It's not just thinking about what happened when
18:25Dallas was legitimately America's team. I can't stress enough how much I love the Dallas Cowboys.
18:32And this example with George Pickens is everything. The Dallas Cowboys have handled all business
18:39in the offseason. They are primed and ready under Brian Schottenheimer to become a true
18:45championship contender. And I believe that they are going to go deep in the playoffs in 2026.
18:52We go from California to Indiana where Daniel Jones has an update on his health.
18:58Quickly. How's your body feeling? How are you doing? I feel good. Really good. I'm excited
19:01to get going. We report tomorrow, first practice Wednesday. So good to go. I'm excited to get
19:06rolling. Daniel Jones talking to our friend Kyle Brandt. And then after that interview,
19:11we talked to our friend Pat McAfee and said that he's 100% fully cleared for training camp. And that
19:17is some news you could use if you're a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Listen, the Indianapolis Colts
19:24are the forgotten team in the NFL. Middle of the season last year, they made the trade
19:28for Sauce Gardner because they were about to get the one seed. The AFC, you almost got
19:32to jog them at the Rolodex here. The AFC was about to go through Indianapolis, Indiana.
19:37The Indianapolis Colts were dominant, sensational. And Daniel Jones, who I rightly killed with the
19:43Giants, was playing out of his mind. You take a look at what Daniel Jones did last season.
19:49In 13 games, he played like a borderline MVP candidate. Sure, had a strong offensive line.
19:56Jonathan Taylor was sensational at the running back position. Daniel Jones took to Shane Sykin's
20:01coaching, did a fantastic job. He got hurt. Wheels fell off. Phillip Rivers, you know, had to come out
20:07of retirement. You saw Riley Leonard play. This team couldn't function without Daniel Jones.
20:13I really think that the Colts, on paper, good, not great. It's the team that I think is the most
20:21fascinating entering training camp. I think going into this season, going into training camp,
20:27the Jaguars and the Houston Texans are better in the division. But this is a monster deal because
20:34this team could not function, with all due respect to Riley Leonard, could not function if Daniel Jones
20:41was not healthy. The fact that he's fully cleared, the fact that he is going to be the starter under
20:47center for the first reps of training camp and ready for 11 on 11, I just love every single second
20:55of
20:55that. That is terrific and tremendous stuff. I can't get enough of Daniel Jones, who I ripped as a
21:01giant, showed professionalism in Indianapolis, got that PhD gap year with Kevin O'Connell and the
21:08Minnesota Vikings. I didn't like the Michael Pittman trail in Indianapolis at all, but this is great
21:14news for Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, in New England, Mike Vrabel is already
21:19calling out to A.J. Brown in practice.
21:23I'm just knowing that it comes from a genuine place, you know, like the first team meeting,
21:29you know, he had ripped me for almost bringing in a catch, you know, and he expected me to make
21:33that
21:33play and, you know, early on as a, as a rookie, you know, I was, didn't really like that too
21:39much,
21:39you know, but now I know it comes from a great place and he expects me to make that play
21:43and so
21:43do I as well.
21:46So this so far, and it's early, right? This is my favorite soundbite in the NFL and I am not
21:53high
21:53on the New England Patriots this year. I think that because of the offensive line, they're going
21:57to take a step back because of the competition in the AFC, they take a step back. But this is
22:02amazing because if Mike Vrabel can rip the hell out of A.J. Brown, the big ticket acquisition
22:10and his guy from Tennessee and he had him and he loved him and he swore by him, then Mike
22:15Vrabel,
22:16who is a fabulous, phenomenal head coach, voted him coach of the year last year, won coach of
22:20the year. He was part of the reason why the Patriots were able to win so many tight games,
22:24close games because he's so tough and he's so buttoned up and he's so disciplined in
22:29terms of practice habits and the team always played well when it mattered the most. If
22:34he can rip A.J. Brown, that gets everyone's attention. That's the kind of thing that everyone
22:40kind of sits up a little straighter in those team meetings, studies a little bit more, pays
22:45more attention. Practice habits become even better because if Mike Vrabel is going to call
22:50out A.J. Brown, he can call out you too. I think you're going to see A.J. Brown have
22:55a terrific season. I wouldn't be surprised if he had 12 touchdowns, you know, 100 catches
23:01this year. You know, well over 1,000 receiving yards, draft him in fantasy football. Drake
23:07May is going to play at an MVP level again. Josh McDaniel calling the plays. That is huge.
23:12I think the world of Drake May. And suddenly now, when you have Brown and you have Dobbs,
23:18there's depth at the receiver position. And you take all those young cats that he hit the
23:23throw to last year and you start talking about having them as, you know, receiver three and
23:27four and five. That helps in terms of booty and Williams and guys that I like, but you
23:33didn't want as number one and number two in the progression order for someone like Drake
23:37May. I just don't like the line. That offensive line was so bad last year. I also think the
23:43schedule is ridiculously tough when you look at it for New England. I mean, they start the
23:48season in Seattle. They have the Steelers early on. They have the Jaguars early on. 0-4 for
23:54the New England Patriots to start the campaign. But that soundbite, if you're a Patriot fan,
24:01energizing. Absolutely fired up if you're a Patriots fan because that's everything. Because
24:07Mike Vrabel was in the news a lot this offseason. But Mike Vrabel is a hell of a football coach.
24:14And that, I'm sure, was done with a point and a purpose to make sure every player is buttoned up
24:21and focused and ready for the upcoming season. And ready to be blown out week one against the
24:28Seattle Seahawks. Puggeteers fans have been hoping to get news on a new deal for the pro
24:34bowler, Vita Vea. Vita, what could be going on? How close are you to getting this thing done? I
24:40don't want this to be a storyline. I don't know. I hope we're close. My fingers are crossed, I think.
24:47So, the fingers were crossed and Vita Vea talked to our friend Kay Adams on her outstanding up
24:51an Adams show. And apparently, someone uncrossed the fingers. Because shortly after that incredible
24:58interview that Vita Vea did with the great Kay Adams, he requested a trade. And then shortly
25:03after that, Baker Mayfield, at the end of the day, is going to have to play this season because he
25:10reported to training camp and he had a deadline of training camp and no negotiations once he hits
25:15the practice field, Baker Mayfield is going to play this year in an expiring contract. The hell's going
25:21on with the Buccaneers? We've made this point on Tampa before, but I want to stress it here. Because I
25:26love Jason Light. I love the organization. Something's off. Something is just not right. Maybe they should
25:32have gotten rid of Todd Bowles. I made that case. Baker Mayfield wasn't the same last year. Mike Evans
25:38left Tampa. He was there forever. He went to San Francisco and wasn't the decision of the Bucs.
25:44They wanted him back. Mike Evans didn't want to be there. He's Mr. Buccaneer. He's the first ballot
25:49All-of-Famer. He's going into the Bucs Hall of Fame. Best offensive player in Bucs history, which matters
25:53to this point. Why did Mike Evans leave? Because he's looking around wondering what the hell is going
25:58on. Levante David retired. Something's off. By the way, there are teams throughout the entire league.
26:04Buffalo Bills, New York Football Giants, the Chicago Bears, who should be all over Tampa Bay right now
26:12trying to make a trade to get Vito Vea. Vito Vea has one year left on his contract.
26:17I know he's on the wrong side of 30 technically. Don't care. He should absolutely be on everyone's
26:24radar. I still, for the Bucs, hold out hope that they get a deal done and they go out and
26:30find a way with his agents. You know, fingers crossed again going to that interview with Kay Adams.
26:35Find a way to ultimately sign him. Vito Vea is a stud in the middle. He's an absolute stud.
26:41But these other teams should absolutely be all over him. Baker Mayfield's interesting. Baker wants
26:46to be in Tampa. Baker can compartmentalize. Baker will play with the chip on his shoulder.
26:51Now, the offense wasn't the same after we saw Liam Cohen go to Duval and coach the Jaguars.
26:57You know, and that was obviously a messy divorce and he got promoted. Obviously,
27:01he gets a better job, goes from offensive coordinator, head coach, but they dipped a bit
27:05in terms of the passing game and the productivity on offense. I got to tell you, this is not what
27:10you want. Like we talked earlier in the show about the Cowboys and how Dallas has no drama.
27:16We're talking about your starting quarterback, who's a stud. You're a tremendous longtime Buccaneers,
27:22won a Super Bowl in Tampa. And Vito Vea, he wants a trade. This is as bad a start to
27:28training camp
27:29as you could have with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coming up, we move to the key quarterback battles
27:34across the NFL. Cleveland, Atlanta, Minnesota, Vegas, baby, all have big questions on their

27:52Every year around this time, there's an NFL team with a quarterback competition on its hands.
27:57You know the old saying, if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. Well, this year we have at least
28:02four bona fide battles in NFL training camps. Let's start in Cleveland, where new head coach
28:07Todd Munkin must choose between Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders. By the way, what the hell
28:14happened to doing game? Well, I liked, by the way, coming out of the draft a few years ago. But
28:19I digress.
28:20Shador Sanders has to be the guy. And I'm not one of those where it's, oh, Shador, he should have
28:28been
28:28the top pick in the draft. Or he's Deion's kid. Or I'm not one of those carrying the water for
28:34the Sanders family. No, I'm trying to exercise a little logic here. Deshaun Watson is Deshaun Watson.
28:42You can't rely on him on the field. You can't rely on him to stay healthy. You can't rely on
28:47him
28:47off the field. The incredible days for him at Clemson or during his phenomenal years in Houston,
28:53that's a lifetime ago. I know they've been paying him forever, but what are you even doing here with
29:00Deshaun Watson? What they should do is give Shador Sanders every single opportunity to win this job.
29:07That's logical. Because Shador Sanders should be solid. And if he's solid, and the Browns, I thought,
29:16had an A-plus draft and an A-plus offseason, if he's solid and you don't have to draft a
29:22quarterback
29:22next year or trade up to draft a quarterback, you're going to be golden, right? If Shador Sanders
29:28can earn the job for 2027, not hand it to him, earn it. So why don't you give him an
29:34opportunity
29:35to see if he can be the guy? Not about 2026, 2027. I would give Shador Sanders all the reps
29:41with the first team in training camp. They're not going to do it, and I think that's a huge mistake
29:45by the Lake in Cleveland. Atlanta. Michael Penix Jr., Tua Tunga-Vailoa. Listen, this to me is obvious,
29:55right? If Michael Penix Jr. is healthy, and it sounds like he is, he's the starting quarterback.
30:03Tua Tunga-Vailoa is an interception turnover machine. Tua Tunga-Vailoa, no one wanted to give him
30:10a monster deal in the offseason because he was dreadful in Miami. Michael Penix Jr., I believe,
30:16has a whole other level attached to him, okay? Michael Penix Jr. going into year three. First
30:22two years, obviously, he barely played in the first year. When that was Kirk Cousins' show,
30:27he came in, played well under the circumstance. Last year, he got injured. I think that Michael
30:33Penix Jr. has a whole different level. Think about what he was in college. Think about what he was
30:37in Washington. He's smart. He's accurate. He has to go out and kick ass and take names
30:42and dominate. That's on Michael Penix Jr. And I think that under Kevin Stefanski, who is a
30:48hell of a coach, phenomenal hire by Atlanta, he put together a terrific offensive staff with
30:54Timorese and company. I love my guy Matt Ryan, love Ian Cunningham, the new general manager.
31:00This Falcons team, they have Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, solid line, really
31:08strong defense. Atlanta should be a really good team this year. They really should be. It's
31:14incumbent upon Penix to win this job. It's incumbent upon Michael Penix Jr. to become a truly great
31:21player. He has it in him. I loved him in college, loved him in the draft. The only question was
31:25he's healthy. He's already been injured at the NFL level. If Michael Penix Jr. wins this
31:30job in camp, and I can appreciate why there's a bit of a battle here, right? I get it because
31:35Penix hasn't exactly dazzled. There's a new head coach. Tua did put up some numbers in
31:40Miami. I'm not a Tua guy at all. I can appreciate why you want to see Penix earn it. I
31:46get that
31:47completely. Not every job do I want to see split reps. In this one, I'm good with it. I want
31:52to see Penix ultimately kick ass, take names. So I'm good with the battle. But by the time,
31:58let's say, August 15th rolls around, a month before the season, make Michael Penix Jr. the
32:04starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. Now, every quarterback situation is different.
32:10There should be no quarterback battle in Minnesota. And today, Kevin O'Connell talking to the press,
32:17Kevin O'Connell told the gathered news media at Minnesota Vikings training camp that J.J.
32:24McCarthy and Kyler Murray are going to split the reps with the first team. That makes no sense.
32:31Kevin O'Connell is a quarterback whisperer. Quarterbacks have their career saved by Kevin
32:37O'Connell. I look at Sam Darnold, look at Daniel Jones, look at what he's able to do when he
32:42gets the
32:43past or not years ago. I think the world of Kevin O'Connell. J.J. McCarthy can't play. Forget
32:49about whatever you thought before the draft. I loved him coming out of Michigan. J.J. McCarthy
32:54got hurt, missed his rookie season. Last year, of course, he had Al Pimenta, what could go wrong,
32:59did go wrong, totally screwed up the quarterback position, and he got fired as a result.
33:04Why are you messing around with J.J. McCarthy? And I'm not one of those who's one of those,
33:09you know, in the media, who's all, Kyler Murray is the next this, next that. I didn't like when
33:14the Cardinals took him over Nick Bosa, and I was right, and they were wrong. But Kyler Murray,
33:19on a one-year deal, on a proven situation, where everyone needs each other, and he's a terrific
33:26athlete and a great thrower of the football, let him get all the reps of the first team.
33:30You know what you have with J.J. McCarthy? It's not good. Kyler Murray, let's see what he can do.
33:35Let's see if he can develop a rapport with Justin Jefferson, who I believe is still the best
33:39wide receiver in the National Football League. I really think that this should not be a quarterback
33:44battle. It should be Kyler Murray's football team. The Vikings are really loaded. They've got great
33:52depth at the wide receiver position with Jefferson, and they bring in Jennings, and you look at Jordan
33:58Addison. They can run the ball with authority with Jones. The line is strong. Brian Flores' defense
34:04is excellent. The quarterback position totally derailed everything from a year ago. Why are you
34:10still messing around with J.J. McCarthy? Makes absolutely no sense. Give Kyler Murray every
34:15chance to succeed, not in July or August, but let him get all the reps with the first team
34:20so he can be a monster success during the NFL season. They can beat the Green Bay Packers
34:25in week number one. I love my guy Kevin O'Connell. I think he made a huge mistake splitting the
34:31reps
34:31here with McCarthy and Murray. Vegas, baby. Look, Fernando Mendoza, Kirk Cousins. I think that
34:40Kirk Cousins starting for the Vegas Raiders is a mistake, and I know this is where Clint Kubiak
34:47is leaning, and I know that Kirk Coe is everybody's favorite guy, and I like Kirk Cousins. You know,
34:54I loved him in Washington and Minnesota. Come on. What are we doing here? Stop. Anyone who watched
35:01Kirk Cousins play the last two years in Atlanta, he's shot, and you want Kirk Cousins as a backup
35:06quarterback? You know, fresh set of eyes, you know, savvy veteran, you know, for Fernando Mendoza,
35:11that's great. Fernando Mendoza should be given every opportunity to be the week one starter.
35:16The Raiders don't have to be that bad, and when you draft the quarterback number one overall with
35:21this pedigree, who just won a championship, who just won the Heisman, who maximized great talent,
35:25who played for Kirk Cignetti, Fernando Mendoza has it. Everything you want at the quarterback
35:30position. Why would you put him in bubble wrap? I mean, I went nuts last year, and the Giants
35:37mishandled Jackson Dart. Not every situation is the same, right? This is how I feel about Mendoza,
35:42with Tyler Lindenbaum now at center, who they got from the Ravens. I think Ashton
35:46Genthey's going to have a monster season. Brock Bauer's going to have a monster season,
35:49best tight end in the NFL. The defense with Max Crosby. Let Mendoza play for Kubiak. Let
35:56him work out the kinks. I think Clint Kubiak, that's akin to when Ben Johnson got hired by the
36:00Bears. That kind of impact instantly on offense, on the quarterbacks, on the X's and O's, on the
36:06entire team. I hate that this is even a battle. I can allow it for a minute. You want to
36:13let
36:13Mendoza earn it. You know, first training camp, head might be swimming a little bit. Fine. I want
36:19Fernando Mendoza starting week number one under center for the Raiders. Look, I'm not sure if
36:25we're really going to call the last one a battle, and the Cardinals are not going to be a good
36:30football
36:30team this year. Jacoby Bursette is going to be the guy, right? Let's be crystal clear about that. And
36:36he wanted new money. The Cardinals, Monty Austin Ford, they're a great GM, gave it to him a couple
36:40of days ago. Jacoby Bursette is a pro's pro, right? You know, I feel like Jacoby Bursette has been in
36:45the
36:45league for about 50 years. You know, going back to New England and Indianapolis, and, you know,
36:50he replaced Andrew Luck and all the different stops. Hey, Jacoby Bursette earned it. He played really
36:55well last year. And I think that he will start the season. He'll be the guy. Gardner Minshew,
37:00to me, he's an extra arm. It's the Carson Beck portion of this that fascinates me. Because Carson
37:08Beck, when they picked him, and I talked to Monty Austin Ford about this, they really like Carson
37:13Beck. They really like him. And I'm going to be curious, because they'll start Bursette, and they
37:19have Trey McBride, who's phenomenal at tight end. And then they have Marvin Harrison Jr., who I still
37:23believe in, going into year three, the light better go on. They have great depth and talent,
37:28Wilson and company, at the wide receiver position. The defense actually has some dudes,
37:33but they're going to be awful. But if you can get Carson back in the mix in the second half
37:39of the
37:39season, you start Bursette, forget about X's and O's, forget about over or unders, forget about win
37:44total projections. You're the Arizona Cardinals, you're Coach LaFleur, you're a first-time head coach.
37:49You want to give yourself the best opportunity to win. Forget about what pundits like me,
37:53or anyone else have to say. But once the Cardinals start losing, Carson Beck time. And I think that
38:00can go a long ways for the future here for the Arizona Cardinals. Coming up next, the marriage
38:06between Bill Belichick and North Carolina football, maybe the worst fit in the history
38:11of sports. There will be more evidence of that this week. Twice. That's next, as we wrap up this
38:17sizzling edition of Shine Time. Today, you may have seen the news that Mike Lombardi has now been placed
38:22on paid administrative leave by the university following an HR complaint filed by a former
38:29member of Carolina football's front office. And so there is an investigation into that HR issue
38:35that is proceeding as we speak. What I am also reporting, in addition to that, is that the college
38:42sports commission, which is the entity that is tasked with enforcing the rules around the NCAA
38:49and NIL, the CSC is now investigating North Carolina football, in addition to the Lombardi HR matter.
39:00That, of course, my guy Pablo Torre of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Pablo Torre finds out
39:05reporting that in addition to Bill Belichick's right-hand man, the UNC football GM, Mike Lombardi,
39:11being placed on administrative leave after an HR complaint, the school is also under investigation
39:17by the college sports commission, the CSC. That's the entity that handles compliance
39:23and the enforcement of NCAA and NIL rules. This is the second investigation under the Belichick
39:31regime, which began just over a year ago. Yikes. Not great on Mike Lombardi. A lot of people
39:40are not surprised. The Carolina football team went 4-8 last year. And if you watch them play,
39:47you wonder how the hell they even win 4. And I'll raise my hand. I was wrong. I thought Belichick
39:53would step in and the team would respond and his X's and O's are better than everyone else.
39:59And this was an unwatchable, unmitigated disaster. A Carolina football team that had zero guys drafted
40:04in the draft. Zero. Nobody got drafted from North Carolina football. And I'm of the opinion that
40:10Belichick is the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. Look, you could argue Vince Lombardi and
40:15Andy Reid and Don Shula and anyone else. To me, it's Belichick. Even with the disaster that was
40:20Belichick post-Tom Brady with the New England Patriots and, you know, seemingly everyone knew that
40:25Tom Brady was leaving except for Bill Belichick. He had no plan. We've been through that.
40:29Everything since Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay has been a disaster. And, you know, we could talk about
40:37his 20-year-old girlfriend. We could talk about how she's, Jordan Hudson, been running the show.
40:43We could talk about what happened with the interview on 60 Minutes. I mean, there are missteps nonstop.
40:49The Lombardi situation is dreadful. It's a mess. Mac Brown would have done a much better job at North
40:57Carolina. What a sad sack, embarrassing ending to the greatest career we've ever seen in the
41:05history of the National Football League from a head coach. I hate that it's ending this way for
41:10Belichick. And if you're a proud alum or fan of North Carolina football, it's got to really make you
41:16sick. But wait, there's more. Justin Herbert is finally going to get a ring. He and pop star
41:25Madison Beer officially engaged. Now, a couple of things are very important here. Number one,
41:32Justin Herbert's never won a playoff game. Number two, he's winning at life. Number three,
41:37here's a take, a sports take for you. I think this is going to be the best thing that's happened
41:42to Justin Herbert and the L.A. Chargers. I think that for Justin Herbert, who's been living his best
41:50life with Madison Beer, I think this is going to help him take a breath. I think this is going
41:56to
41:56help him relax. I think Madison Beer is going to be good for him. By the way, two best things
42:02that's
42:02happened to Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater's back at the tackle position and he got engaged to
42:07Madison Beer. These are wins. Not to mention, he also has Mike McDaniel now calling the plays. So,
42:13if you're a Charger fan, this is great news. Chargers never get great news in training camp.
42:20So, if you start thinking about players getting engaged, then married to someone who's in the public,
42:30this is great stuff. This is exactly what Herbert needs in terms of curating, in terms of energy,
42:37in terms of focus for the year. I think this is awesome. You know what? That's it. Seeing those
42:44pictures, I'm officially going to call it now. Chargers win the AFC West. They have a real chance
42:51to play in the L.A. Super Bowl. Oh yeah, there's this. I'm just saying, I had eyes first and
