00:01all right so these are all lions related camp issues questions as we heading to camp which
00:06starts tomorrow what is your number one storyline to watch at lions camp i'm gonna be watching no
00:12secrets to anyone how this offensive line gels and i do i think there are upgraded talent on this
00:21offensive line absolutely i think moving penne sewell over i would have loved to have them do
00:27this last year especially when you know hey decker was not playing and not performing up to
00:33standards but the biggest question is going to be is it going to be christian mahogany
00:38juice scruggs miles frazier ben barge there's a great competition at that left guard spot cade
00:45mays an upgrade at the center position he's a downhill hey power running center but it's going
00:52to be how does he communicate with all the guys up there how is he going to be communicating with
00:57goff and gibbs and everybody else that you've got to communicate with tate retledge in year two
01:01blake miller in year one i really like the makings of this offensive line i still think it's going to
01:07take some time for them to gel even into the season so i want to see what it looks like
01:11in training camp
01:12i'm excited for the offensive line my number one storyline it's not penny for your thoughts
01:16it's all about nickel the nickel package the secondary without alex anzalone i think they're
01:22going to play more five defensive backs and i want to see who emerges is it mccrary who they
01:27brought in to play slot corner is it keith abney a player they really like out of arizona state the
01:33rookie what about izian who can play a little safety or nickel and then there's always ennis
01:38rakestraw i think the secondary and those unproven pieces are the names i want to watch most in
01:43training camp who's going to be your breakout player for the lions in 2026 i think i'm going to
01:48on to the punch on this one because i've heard you talking about him i'm excited for year two
01:53ty leak williams reports are yesterday he is shedding weight 50 pounds now he probably ballooned up a
02:00little bit to shed the 50 pounds but if he's playing closer to 300 pounds and he can still be
02:05a stout run
02:06stuffer but add a little more pass rushing upside and quickness a player who takes his routine
02:11seriously in his second season is a breakout candidate hey i've always said from personal experience when
02:16you're that big and for me when i was that fat the first 50 comes off like that um but
02:23and so i'm
02:24gonna hit one that is a rookie and i have talked about quite a bit and maybe i'm developing that
02:32same
02:32player crush like like tug has for jack campbell but i'm gonna give you jimmy rolder and i think
02:40he's gonna get a lot of opportunity because malcolm rodriguez is right now listed as the starter
02:46at sam do we think he is a starter at this level no i think eventually jimmy rolder works into
02:52a
02:52starting position if he could stay healthy that was the one big thing at michigan wasn't healthy
02:57for a full season until his final year at michigan and then he was even with jay sean barham with
03:03all
03:04the talent that they had at linebacker he was by far their best linebacker i think his build
03:09i think his style of play all lends itself to being a high quality nfl linebacker and i think
03:17he's going to be that guy that by the end of the season we're talking about hey this jimmy rolder
03:21guy but should listen to jansen earlier where'd he go to school well he went to michigan i know you
03:26want to bring that up but i just i think he watching i had a chance to watch him at
03:31practice i had a chance
03:32to watch him in every single game and i think he is just built to be a really good nfl
03:38linebacker
03:38here's a third round pick right yes who's the fourth round pick fourth round okay well i was
03:44trying to segue to another third round pick which was last year so that's my bad and how do you
03:48pronounce it like if we settle the deal here isaac tesla right yes correct why do people still say
03:54tesla because of the car but pronounce it right i don't get it all right was he worth the pick
04:01what's your expectation for isaac tesla this year um i think this year we'll start to see why
04:07he is worth the pick and i think he will be last year 16 receptions on 27 targets six touchdowns
04:13he has unbelievable body control in the air which is why he was able to get those six touchdowns we
04:20saw the one-handed grabs he's got great hand-eye coordination i think he's going to be a guy that
04:25gets 40 to 45 receptions this year as the number three target at the at the receiver position and he
04:31may not even be the number three target in fact he won't be because you're going to have laporte in
04:34there and gibbs and there's just a lot of of guys that are going to get touches but i think
04:39he's 40
04:40to 45 in receptions and similar touchdowns as last year i don't think receptions just simply means you
04:45get more touchdowns he's going to be in that six to eight touchdown range major contributor for this
04:50offense yeah but you hit on it i mean he won't be one of their top three or four options
04:55in the
04:55passing game because i think gibbs is going to continue to be featured there too i could see him
05:00getting an extra catch per game which would get him up to like 32 33 catches i'd get him 400
05:05yards
05:05and four touchdowns so the reason i say 40 to 45 is gibbs being the bell cow do we think
05:13at some point
05:14during this season he gets nicked up hopefully not but i think there's a chance that he will
05:19and we've been spoiled with amon ross st brown and how healthy he's been and the ability to play
05:27through some significant injuries i think there's a chance that guys are going to miss time throughout
05:33the course of the year including him he could miss time well he could okay we all think hutch is
05:38going
05:38to be second in the league in sacks right or second in the first on the team in sacks yeah
05:43who's going
05:43to be second so the aquaman had 11 last year number two on the team i think it's going to
05:48be an edge
05:49player wanham's career high is eight but i think it's derrick moore out of michigan hits the ground
05:55where did he go to school i think i think he comes in in some sub packages and can get
06:01to the
06:01quarterback um i did not pick derrick moore and now not because i didn't want to pick two wolverines
06:07i think by the end of the year he's going to be that guy opposite hutch but to start the
06:11season
06:11opportunity is going to be dj wanham i think wanham ends up this year with more sacks than derrick
06:17moore but it's the only year that happens well kirby joseph start the year on the pup and his over
06:22under is set at nine and a half games played you're going over under uh no he does not start
06:28the season
06:28on the pump pup and yes i actually think he does go over i think he's going to be in
06:34that 12 to 13 games
06:36and and i don't necessarily know that it's managing the knee that may be part of it but i think
06:42i think he's going to have a productive season not like the peak kirby joseph but they're going
06:50to get what they need out of him look they need him to get takeaways takeaways help this team a
06:54lot
06:54two seasons ago i think he starts the year playing football games i'm not sure he ends the year playing
07:00football games i'll take the under i was looking at something quick this morning he led the team in
07:03interceptions last year it's quite disturbing wild he missed 11 games exactly all right is gibbs going to
07:09hold in slash hold out how should the lions handle this situation i don't think he's going to hold
07:14out we'll see and i think the lions should wait it out he's got two years left no reason to
07:22rush paying
07:23this guy right now i'll gladly play the pay the premium down the line i want to see how 400
07:28carries
07:28treats the body at that position 400 touches i shouldn't say carries touches i think there's going to
07:34be a hold in and i i don't know how long it goes and i do think the lions will
07:41end up paying them and i
07:42actually i think that they should simply because they can manipulate the cap better by structuring
07:51their style of contract and they've got jameer gibbs they've got all the leverage because they don't
07:59have to if he wants to get paid as a young running back looking at all the touches he's going
08:04to get
08:04this year he's going to want to take a contract might not ultimately be the contract he wants but
08:09it's going to be the one he gets if it's going to be that way it's going to be a
08:11shorter deal though
08:13yeah well we'll see how it's structured all right finally no joint practice this year do you wish the
08:18lions did have a joint practice during camp i do um and not necessarily with the team that comes in
08:23and from a former player's perspective we used to scrimmage pittsburgh and it wasn't just because
08:30we played them but just because they were you know they were in latrobe that wasn't a far ride for
08:34them to get to us for us to get to them cleveland it's not going to be that far away
08:38there are other
08:38teams that you could play on just a day and you could script it so that and hey there's not
08:46two a
08:46days anymore take a bus ride for a couple hours play another team get some one-on-one pass bro
08:53get a
08:53couple of goal lines scripted goal line short yardage you can't get that without it and i think
08:59it just breaks up camp for the guys as well gives you something to look forward to what i liked
09:03about
09:03it is what they always sold us on targeted reps we can choose red zone we can choose goal line
09:09we can
09:09choose third down in a preseason because that's how they're going to try to make up some of those reps
09:12you might not get those targeted specific situations i do wish they had at least one week of joint
09:18practices and you can structure it so that hey the the receivers running backs and defensive backs
09:25linebackers don't have on full pads so it takes the temperature down a little bit and you have your
09:31o-line d-line go against each other for maybe the first third half of practice and then they
09:38they take the pads off as well why do you think they went away from it strictly business
09:44to tighten things up a little bit to not show anybody anything i don't think it's that i think
09:49it was just the amount of fights that they had which is why you could you there's ways to take
09:53a
09:53temperature down in practice how many times are you gonna say strictly business in this uh training
09:57camp preseason strictly business tom that's toys it's your tuesday touchdown 97 one
10:03you
