00:00Johor Police have dismantled two online scam syndicates operating out of Forest City,
00:06with 335 people arrested in a joint operation on July 15.
00:11Utusan Malaysia reported that those detained included 309 Chinese nationals,
00:1619 Indonesians, 4 Myanmar nationals, and 3 Malaysians, aged between 20 and 58.
00:23Johor Police Chief Abdul Rahman Arsad said officers raided 27 apartment units
00:28and five bungalows used as call center bases by the syndicates.
00:32He said the groups were involved in online scams, including cryptocurrency investment scams and love scams,
00:39targeting foreigners particularly from China and Indonesia.
00:42Police also seized 313 computers, 1,557 mobile phones, 17 laptops, and 10 modems during the raid.
00:52Rahman said the first syndicate involved 279 suspects linked to love and cryptocurrency scams,
00:58while the second involved 56 suspects who allegedly impersonated recruitment agents and offered fake crypto investments.
01:06Police have opened 23 investigation papers,
01:09with 194 suspects expected to be charged at the Johor Bahru Magistrates' Court today and tomorrow.
01:16Rahman said the masterminds of the syndicates were still at large,
01:19and added that the cases had nothing to do with network school in Forest City,
01:23which was shut down last week.
