00:00Here's Yaxo Lundenberg, by the way, who worked out for the Warriors and did an interview
00:06and was asked, how could you impact the Warrior franchise?
00:11Like five assists at the game, maybe to start off, you know, just a lot of, you know,
00:15defense, fast break, kind of bucket opportunities for me.
00:18And depending on if I'm here or anywhere else, my role would be a lot different.
00:22But if I was here, I would be more like a secondary ball handler.
00:25Whenever Steph is getting taken out the game, I'll be there to assist, you know,
00:28maybe provide a little bit more offense or instant offense in a way.
00:31Okay, grade the answer.
00:32Go ahead, Dan.
00:33If I'm pods right now, I'm pissed because he's trying to take my job.
00:39Secondary ball handler.
00:40Secondary ball handler.
00:41Yeah.
00:41Did he give himself a stat right away?
00:44Did he start the answer with five assists per game?
00:47That's a stat.
00:48Can I hear that again?
00:49Here's Yaxo.
00:50Like five assists at the game, maybe to start off, you know, just a lot of, you know,
00:54defense, fast break, kind of bucket opportunities for me.
00:57And depending on if I'm here or anywhere else, my role would be a lot different.
01:00But if I was here, I would be more like a, you know, secondary ball handler.
01:04Whenever Steph is getting taken out the game, I'll be there to assist, you know,
01:06maybe provide a little bit more offense or instant offense in a way.
01:09Oh, instant offense.
01:11Five assists a game.
01:12That's a stat.
01:13To start.
01:14Look it up.
01:18To start.
01:19To start.
01:19To start.
01:20Five assists per game.
01:21I mean, but after that, you know, more.
01:25I mean, Pods is only at 3.6 a game for his career.
01:29So, yeah, go ahead and give me the ball secondarily because I'm going to be that secondary ball handler.
01:35So now, do you like him more now that you've heard him talk?
01:38I do.
01:39I mean, I like him the same.
01:40I just think that he is the right player.
01:43He's the right player at the right time.
01:45He's actually, if I'm correct in this, I believe he's older than Pods.
01:50Because he is.
01:51No, he definitely is.
01:53He's going to be 24 this year.
01:53Yeah, he definitely is older than Pods.
01:54He's a ready-made NBA player.
01:57And don't let me go on and on again about his body.
02:00But he's got a NBA body.
02:02I mean, you're allowed to.
02:03Yeah, you can say whatever you want.
02:04He has a grown man body.
02:07Okay.
02:07Like, Victor Wenbin-Yama, at some point when he is, you know, 26 or 28 or however old, he's going
02:15to have a bigger body than he has now.
02:17I mean, we've only got seven shows before draft night.
02:21So, it's not too early for you.
02:23I mean, you just said you believe he's the right guy.
02:28Kukush.
02:29Just because of his body?
02:30Like, why?
02:31Why is he the warrior pick?
02:34Because he can play the wing, he can shoot the three, he can be a secondary ball handler, he's a
02:41guy who can attack the basket and score at the rim.
02:44He can score at all three levels, Mark, at the rim, in the mid-range, a middie, so to speak.
02:50Can he shoot?
02:50He can shoot the three.
02:51He's not a knockdown shooter, but he's a more than capable three-point shooter.
02:56He's a guy who can play the wing and play wing defense, and he can rebound.
03:01He's the whole package, Mark.
03:03And there's nobody else that has your eye that can do those things?
03:07There are other people who has my eye, or who have my eye, rather, but a lot of the guys
03:13who are going to go early in this draft are point guards, like Acuff, for example, and Swaggler.
03:20I mean, these are guys who are really good players, but on this team, I don't know if they are
03:24as much of a ready-made fit as the aforementioned Yaxel Lundinborg.
03:29Okay, so you're just like, that's the guy.
03:33If he's gone?
03:34Yeah, what if he's gone?
03:35Then do you have a second place?
03:37His teammate.
03:38His teammate?
03:40Adey Mara.
03:41Okay.
03:42Adey Mara, who is the 7'2"?
03:47He's 7'2", maybe 7'3".
03:49He's the Spaniard center on that Michigan team who doesn't have a lot of shooting range.
03:55I think he's 7'3", Dibs.
03:57Yeah, thank you.
03:58Thank you, Grandy.
03:59Guten Tag.
04:01That's German.
04:02He's actually Spanish, I believe.
04:03A center who can't shoot next to Draymond Green, huh?
04:06It's not that he can't shoot, but he's not Quentin Post.
04:10He's just not out of Spain, Dibs.
04:12You're correct.
04:12The Warriors have told us that they don't yike that.
04:16I'd have to look at his three-point percentage.
04:18I don't know if he can't shoot or if they just didn't have him shoot because they had other guys.
04:22We're going to have floor spacing problems.
04:23We might, but he is a very skilled big.
04:27More skilled in many ways than any other center they have.
04:31He attempted 10 threes in his collegiate career.
04:35And how'd they go?
04:36Made 3 of 10 in his collegiate career.
04:38He's a 30% shooter.
04:39They all were in this past season.
04:41He started with the Bruins in UCLA, Dibs, as I know you know.
04:44As you well know.
04:45Yeah.
04:46Yeah, as we like to say.
04:48I think that he is a 21.
04:50He is a good center.
04:53He's a versatile center.
04:54Maybe he's not going to be a stretch five like Al Horford, but he's a good player.
05:00What do you know about Nate Ament?
05:02Not a lot, actually.
05:05Nate Ament.
05:06Grandy gets very uncomfortable when the conversation goes here.
05:09Why?
05:09Because he doesn't like Nate Ament.
05:12Why?
05:13Ask Grandy.
05:14I don't know.
05:15Why don't you like him?
05:17I don't think he's very good.
05:19There you go.
05:20Particularly not good right now.
05:22How do you like that answer, Dibs?
05:25I mean, I can see that.
05:26The NBA likes him, but not Grandy.
05:28He seems very raw to me.
05:29Yeah.
05:30He's 19.
05:30So, to that extent.
05:32Which describes all of the people who are going to be in the top 10, except for your boy
05:37London Berg.
05:37Oh, yeah.
05:38I don't know what skill you could point to with Ament right now and say, all right, that's
05:42going to help me win basketball games at the NBA level.
05:44Then why is he going in the lottery, then?
05:47Well, you can say the same thing about so many guys that go in the lottery.
05:50I just don't think it fits the Warriors' plan or timeline.
05:53So, you're going to be a Yaxl guy, too?
05:57Wow.
05:58Save that for tomorrow.
05:59Save that energy for tomorrow.
06:01Okay.
06:01There you go.
06:03See, I'm helping you out.
06:04I'm setting the table for my departure.
06:07We'll go through that whole mock draft.
06:08Yeah, you're going to dive deep and get into a fight about young basketball players and
06:17then invite them over for workouts.
06:19I mean, sure.
06:21You're talking about, like, the majority of the mock drafts are freshmen, freshmen, freshmen.
06:26Right.
06:27They're all going to be 19.
06:28Right.
06:28Cameron Boozer, good player.
06:30I think he's going to be a great player eventually.
06:32He's 19.
06:33They're all 19, except for my guy.
06:36And if you're looking at a Warrior team that needs to, I don't know, not wait for another
06:42project, especially with Steve Kerr, who we know, and I guess Steve might be in town.
06:47He might not.
06:48According to Ray Thompson's article, he's in the Presidio somewhere.
06:52Well, he will be in a couple of Tuesdays.
06:54We know that.
06:55Right.
06:55So, go ahead and draft a freshman and watch him just chill in his sweats on the bench.
07:00Well, I mean, that could happen with a 24-year-old, too.
07:03It could.
07:04And the opposite could happen.
07:06Do you feel like there are some 19-year-olds who are more ready than others?
07:11Perhaps.
07:12Like, put it this way.
07:13I'm not going to act like a draft Nick or even a college basketball expert, but that's
07:19not enough of a reason for me.
07:21When I go, hey, what about this guy?
07:23And you go, look, he's 19.
07:25Well, you just described the whole draft.
07:27A lot of them.
07:28So, why is this such a great draft, then?
07:31This is such a great draft.
07:32It's not a great draft for this upcoming year, but it's a great draft in that the projections
07:38are that a lot of these guys, and A-Mant as well, Grandy doesn't really care for him,
07:43but all these guys, and I'm looking down the list, Mikel Brown, freshman out of Louisville,
07:49Kingston Flemings out of Houston, point guard.
07:51He's really good.
07:52Freshman.
07:53Acuff, freshman.
07:55Wagler, freshman.
07:56I do like Acuff.
07:57Caleb Wilson.
07:58He's really good.
07:59He's a freshman.
08:00Like, who is going to be, like, in this class, who would you think will come out and be rookie
08:05of the year?
08:06I would bet it's the guy who goes to the worst possible team.
08:10Why?
08:10Just because they'll get the most minutes in there for the most numbers.
08:13They'll get run and burn and whatnot.
08:14Yeah, I don't know.
08:15I mean, I know who the candidates are.
08:17Boozer and DeBonsa.
08:18Peterson.
08:19Peterson and Caleb.
08:20Like, I get it.
08:21I know those are the guys.
08:22Those are the first four, if you will.
08:25So, and then there's a bunch of guys after that, but most of them are 19.
08:32So, I mean, if you're going to kind of label it that way, then I don't know.
08:38Like, why would we even be excited about this?
08:41Why would we even make the pick?
08:44Why don't you trade it?
08:46If it's going to be years before, and I'm just devil advocate here.
08:51I want the Warriors to make the pick.
08:52I really do.
08:55But, I don't know.
08:56You know, we've got this thing that, and real quick, let me just say that you're listening
09:00to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco, and Odyssey Sports Station, the home of the
09:05Golden State Warriors and Valkyries, always live on the free Odyssey app, coming live from
09:08the Laughing Monk Studios.
09:10I don't know if there's a cure to this whole thing with the Warriors right now.
09:15Everybody's going to be, this is going to be a tough spot no matter how you slice it.
09:18You have Steph Curry, and you have the 11th pick.
09:21I don't know how many Warrior fans are going to be able to emotionally accept those facts.
09:27And here's what I mean by that.
09:29This fan base is like, we're damaged.
09:35Do you know what I mean?
09:36Again, there are scars because of the whole young player thing.
09:42Right.
09:42Two timelines.
09:43Right.
09:44And so, now what do you do?
09:45Because the fan base also values and understands Steph Curry, but this is the first lottery pick
09:53for Mike Donleavy, so he's going to make it.
09:55And if it's not London Borg, then it's going to be someone who's 19, and automatically, I
10:01feel like a fight starts before the season starts.
10:05And the fight is, play the young guy.
10:09You have to play him.
10:11And the Warriors might be like, but he's 19.
10:14So, you really want the starting lineup to be Steph, Dre, and baby cakes.
10:22Is that what we want?
10:23And then we fight.
10:25We fight because of triggering of the past that has nothing to do with this 19-year-old
10:32kid.
10:33I am okay if said 19-year-old kid, if it is a 19-year-old kid, I'm okay if
10:40he plays a
10:40lot, and I'm also okay if he doesn't.
10:43Because he's not really about this year, is he?
10:46Probably not.
10:47Do you know what I mean?
10:48I mean, if you look outside of Yaxel Lendenborg, who is going to be 24 this upcoming NBA
10:53season, the majority of the guys who are slated to go are all coming off their freshman
10:58year, and I'm looking at this one mock draft from Hoops Hype, and they've got Braden Burries,
11:03the shooting guard out of Arizona, going to the Warriors at number 11.
11:07And he's a good player.
11:08Oh, you like that one?
11:09Yeah, I like him.
11:10Why?
11:11Because he's young, yes.
11:13How old is he?
11:14He's a bucket.
11:14He's a freshman.
11:16Yeah.
11:16So he's 19.
11:17Yes, but the skill set matters.
11:19He can handle the ball, and he's got an NBA-ready shot.
11:22Okay.
11:22And Amen doesn't have those things.
11:24I don't think so.
11:25But the Warriors need wings.
11:28Yeah, Burries is more of a guard, but I also think they need guards.
11:32Amen is more of a, like, three-slash-four type of guy.
11:36Yeah, wing.
11:36But he trends more of, like, on the Kaminga tip.
11:40He's more skilled than Kaminga.
11:42No, but honestly, Amen, I think, is more of an upside guy.
11:47And this mock has him going number nine.
11:51And I hope he's off the board.
11:53I don't trust Amen's ability to defend fours.
11:56I don't trust his ability to dribble.
11:57I don't trust his ability to shoot.
11:59So I just don't see how he gets on the floor and has a positive impact right now.
12:02I don't trust your assessment.
12:04Yeah, I might be wrong.
12:05That's my view.
12:06Well, how about this assessment from Hoops Hype that says,
12:08his freshman season didn't fully deliver.
12:10However, he struggled at times, and his offense wasn't always pretty,
12:14but he kept generating it anyway, mostly by getting to the free-throw line.
12:18His most efficient looks came off shooting threes off screens.
12:22He's 6'9 1⁄2", and taller than expected for somebody who attacks,
12:28passes, and shoots the way he does.
12:29Got it.
12:30I was going to say, that's a really weird line.
12:32He's taller than expected.
12:33Well, I didn't expect anything.
12:35I've never even met the guy.
12:37I didn't look at him when he was 11, and I go, I think he's going to be 6'4".
12:41Hey, it turned out he's 6'7".
12:44He's taller than expected.
12:45He's taller than expected, yeah.
12:45I don't know.
12:46Well, what the hell are we talking about, taller than expected?
12:48A day Mara, a junior with a 7'6 wingspan.
12:51Uh-huh.
12:52A standing reach of 9'9".
12:54The second longest ever recorded behind.
12:58Tackle fall.
13:00And what a career he had.
13:02Tackle fall?
13:03Right, not tackle football.
13:05Wait, we didn't.
13:06Tackle fall.
13:06Did you mention, did they not measure Victor Wembenyama?
13:09I don't think that he went to the combine.
13:12Got it.
13:12So, yeah, this is a combine measurement.
13:14Well, then, yeah, that's irrelevant.
13:15If you didn't measure all the people and then say this is the largest measurement ever.
13:19If you didn't measure the people.
13:21Anyway.
13:21The point about Brayden Burry's is a good one because Grandy likes them,
13:25and if you watched Arizona at all this year, and I watched a ton of it because my sister-in
13:29-law
13:30and my wife, they went there, and Arizona was really good, and he was one of their three
13:35or four NBA players they have, but he kind of plays Steph Curry's position.
13:41So, this is what I'm getting at, and this is why that's my prediction for the Warriors
13:45season is a fight.
13:48That's what I'm predicting because you can already feel it.
13:53It doesn't matter who the pick is.
13:54We're going to be totally batting one another back and forth over whether or not this player
14:01should play, and if he doesn't get the minutes that you want and doesn't pop immediately,
14:08cue the Steve Kerr hates young people, but at the same time, here comes the other half
14:15of the Warrior fan base that's like, Steph Curry and Draymond Green are on this team.
14:20We're not rebuilding.
14:22We're not playing 19-year-olds, and by the way, the Warriors are in a complete no-win
14:27situation because let's say they go get your boy Yaxl, and he's 24.
14:31Guess what I can already tell you some fans are going to say?
14:35Oh, God, you picked a ready-made guy just to appease Steph on his way out the door.
14:41Why are we doing that?
14:44He's old, and we're not really contenders, and you wasted the only lottery pick that
14:50we're ever going to have chasing a goose.
14:55This is what we're going to do.
14:56Fans are going to rip no matter what.
14:58I understand that, but I get that, but I really do think that there's more than just the norm
15:04when it comes to this.
15:06The Warriors vortex has arrived at a spot where it feels like the haunted house at Disneyland.
15:13No windows and no doors.
15:16I don't know what everybody, I don't, I really don't.
15:19I don't know what we're supposed to do.
15:21You're supposed to make a pick, but he's supposed to be not too young and not too old, and he
15:28should
15:28play a lot, but not too much, because Steph, but also future, and everybody jump into a
15:37boxing ring and scream, because we're all, we're triggered by stuff that, we're triggered
15:45by, we're triggered by the experience that we've already had, and so that's one thing
15:50I'd like to say.
15:51Young man, whoever the hell you are, and whatever your name is, I kind of feel bad for you a
15:55little
15:55bit.
15:56I don't, you get a chance to play with Steph Curry?
15:59I understand that, but I'm not talking about his teammates, I'm talking about the narrative
16:05that he's falling into.
16:07It is a difficult one, and that is well established already for young players.
16:11Would you rather land in this situation with this narrative, and I get it, the pressure
16:14and four-time champs, and you know, the expectation to come in and be good and win, or you can
16:20go
16:21to some dog-schmidt team.
16:24I was close.
16:25Not really, I actually paused to make sure that Grandy is locked in, but you go to one
16:30of these really, really bad teams, and yeah, you can be Cade Cunningham, where, I mean,
16:34you play, and you stink, you play, and you stink, you play, and you're better, and you
16:39play, and you're finally good.
16:40Which would you rather have?
16:42Why don't you ask Jonathan that question?
16:45What do you think he would say if you asked him, would you have rather gone to a dog-schmidt
16:51team with a runway?
16:54Right.
16:54I mean...
16:55I actually don't know the answer.
16:57I don't either.
16:57But what do you think he would have said?
16:59Well, I mean, looking back, he probably would have said, yeah, take me to that bad team and
17:04let me play.
17:05But then again, I mean, you got to play on a championship team, and you got to be a part
17:09of a championship team, and you got to play with Steph, and, you know, you got to cook
17:13on occasion.
17:14Right, but don't you think that Jonathan would respond to that by saying, okay, all of those
17:20things that you fans experience, that you think are so wonderful, you get to be next
17:25to Steph, and you get to be on a championship team, and if you said, okay, would you pay $20
17:33million a year to do that?
17:36Because I bet in his mind, that's what he thinks he did.
17:39He gave up $20 million a year.
17:41Don't you think that he thinks that if he had gone somewhere with a runway from the
17:46jump, that he could have the Franz Wagner contract?
17:51Don't you think he probably thinks that about himself?
17:54Knowing all the things that we know that he thinks about himself, and all professional
17:59athletes who are lottery picks and beyond what they think about themselves, don't you
18:05think that most athletes at a high level believe first and foremost in the idea of opportunity?
18:12Just give me an opportunity, and if you had done that, I can put up the numbers that generate
18:17the money.
18:19And he didn't have that opportunity for reasons that are actually pretty fair reasons, but
18:25and that's up for debate, but for reasons that are well chronicled, but all of those things
18:31that we put into the heads of the player, oh, but you got to win a ring, and you got
18:36to be
18:36around Steph Curry and just ooze in that greatness.
18:40And he's like, is that worth $20 million a year to me?
18:43$15 million a year, whatever it was.
18:46I would argue they'd probably be like, no.
18:49It's not that fun being next to him.
18:51It depends on...
18:52It's not worth $100 million over five years.
18:55It just depends on what really floats your boat, because I'm thinking about his same draft
19:01class, and you make a good point, and it comes down to the individual, because the guy
19:05that was taken number two overall in that class is Jalen Green.
19:08So Jalen Green got to go to Houston, and they stunk, and he got to cook, and after his
19:14third year, he got a three-year, $105 million extension, and then in year four, he played,
19:21and they got knocked out by the Warriors, and then he got dealt.
19:24So you go from a bad team that's actually better now with you gone, and now you're a
19:29Phoenix Suns, and yeah, you got that bag, but what have you done, and what are you doing
19:34in the league other than making money?
19:36The answer is not much.
19:37Well, actually, though, I mean, he averaged 22 a game for the Phoenix Suns this year,
19:43and they eliminated the Warriors and went to the playoffs.
19:46Yeah, they sure did.
19:47I mean, I know...
19:48And then what happened?
