Brandon Aiyuk to the Washington Commanders campaign just got more interesting. Kevin Sheehan and Commanders Reporter Ben Standig discuss the recent news of Brandon Aiyuk buying a house in Northern Virginia and if it can be linked to the likelihood of joining the Commanders this offseason.
Transcript
00:00So Brandon Iyuk claims that he has purchased a $10 million property in Loudoun County.
00:08That would be Loudoun County, Virginia, the same county where Redskins Park or Commander's Park is located.
00:18He put out a photo, a two-part photo of himself and then himself with his real estate agent.
00:27Brandon Iyuk acquires $10 million Loudoun County, Virginia State and thank you to his real estate agent.
00:34Loudoun County, by the way, he spelled incorrectly or whomever put that together for him, spelled it incorrectly.
00:41I don't know what it means. I'll be honest with you. I'm really to the point where I have gotten
00:47over him completely.
00:49Unfortunately, he's not playing for Washington unless he gets reinstated and goes on a major, major reputation repair tour.
01:00I mean, never say never because he's got talent, a lot of it, but I just don't see it happening.
01:07I think this guy moving into Loudoun County without yet applying for reinstatement, without taking the kind of action,
01:16you know, someone who is, you know, someone who is espousing a desire to play here and hasn't figured out
01:26or is too afraid to take the actions necessary to make that happen.
01:32And that's the biggest red flag out of all of them is that this guy's a talker, not a doer.
01:39He's talented, really talented.
01:42George Kittle was on Chris Sims's podcast and he was asked by Sims to talk about the Brandon Iyuk 49ers
01:52situation.
01:53This is what Kittle said.
01:55Speaking of some maybe bad apples or something like that, Brandon Iyuk, right?
02:00What do you want to know?
02:01Well, are you guys like a little shocked about this turn he's taken there?
02:05I mean, you've known him.
02:06He was a teammate.
02:07Is the locker room, the guy's a little bit like, hey, what the hell's going on with Brandon Iyuk right
02:12now
02:12with some of these Instagram posts he's doing?
02:15Well, a majority of this has come like during the summer break.
02:19So I literally got back to the building yesterday and I have not seen anybody or heard anybody talk about
02:24it.
02:24Okay.
02:24All right.
02:24I would say in general, I feel like I know basically everything that's happened and what's gone on and I
02:31can't share all of that because it's not my business to share or tell.
02:34Yeah.
02:34But I just want to let you know that I feel like the Niners have done a very good job
02:38throughout the entire process and have tried.
02:40Kyle has tried.
02:41John has tried.
02:42Yes.
02:42Teammates have tried and this is where we are.
02:45Yeah.
02:45And so I think the organization itself has done a really good job.
02:50Like I said, I know plenty of things and I don't ever want to single out a player.
02:54I don't ever want to point a finger at anybody, but I've been here for 10 years and I've been
02:58treated with nothing but respect and love my entire career.
03:01I feel like I've done it the right way as long as I can.
03:04You know, contract negotiations are also those are all always hard for everybody.
03:07Yeah.
03:08And you just try your best to not be sensitive about it, but I will say Richard Sherman gave me
03:13like advice back in the day when I was going to my first contract negotiation.
03:16It was contracts are like braces.
03:19They hurt and they suck the entire time.
03:21And then once your brace is off and you get paid, you don't remember having them.
03:24And it's a great time.
03:25Like that's kind of the mindset you have to have.
03:27And no, if you get offended by something, you hold on to it.
03:30That's kind of on you because everybody goes through contract negotiations and they're all difficult.
03:35Yeah.
03:36Well said.
03:36Well said.
03:37And I like you get George Kittle.
03:41I mean, I loved when he said, I don't ever want to point the finger at anybody.
03:45I don't want to single out anybody, but that's exactly what he did with Brandon Ayuk.
03:51When he said, I know plenty of things about this situation and Kyle has tried and John is in John
04:00Lynch's tried teammates have tried.
04:02And yet this is where we are.
04:06And he started off by saying, I feel like I know basically everything that's happened and what's going on and
04:10I can't share all of it because it's not my business to share or tell.
04:13But the 49ers have done a good job.
04:17This is the other part of it.
04:19You know, I still know some of you who reach out to me to say, yeah, it's going to happen
04:25and this guy's not crazy.
04:27He's the one that's, you know, incredibly brilliant with strategy.
04:31Nobody near him, teammates, former teammates, podcasters in the market, media people in the market.
04:39No one, no one has taken his side.
04:43Nobody has.
04:46Ben is with us every Monday and Friday.
04:49As most of you know, he is this show's Washington Commanders insider at Ben Standing on X.
04:56Ben covers the team via his sub stack called Last Man Standing.
05:01He also covers the Wizards.
05:05All right.
05:05So what did you, you know, you sent me the text last night.
05:08And I, yes, we, before it gets, I won't get into the details.
05:14Bottom line is it does appear as if Brandon Ayuk has purchased a property in Loudoun County.
05:21What do you make of that?
05:25I mean, I really have no idea.
05:27I mean, I think, I think I may have said this to you when I did the podcast yesterday, but
05:33I don't know.
05:34Maybe I said it to my cat.
05:35I don't remember that, like, it would be hilarious if this Brandon Ayuk went and bought all his
05:40commander's gear and he's, you know, putting up all these videos of him in commander's gear
05:44and the team has no interest.
05:46That's that's buying a couple of things off fanatics.
05:49This isn't buying a multimillion dollar property somewhere where you don't already live.
05:56I don't know, man.
05:57I don't I don't think to me this signals anything about what Washington's intentions are.
06:02I just think it signals that he is committed to the bit.
06:06And he's committed to the bit.
06:09That's for sure.
06:10I mean, because from based based on what we know, he is still not applied for reinstatement to the league.
06:17He is still not taking an action that could result, even though it seems like a long shot now in
06:24him actually playing for Washington.
06:28Right, right, exactly.
06:29I mean, this isn't this isn't that complicated.
06:32I mean, you know, again, that's the thing with the brain that I use to deal.
06:35It's yes, there are players in the league who have come back from far more.
06:41Sure.
06:41So, I mean, the list goes on and on.
06:46Yeah.
06:47I mean, if you've got talent, you're going to get opportunities as long as you take the action to make
06:52yourself available.
06:54Right, exactly.
06:55I mean, this is where having an agent and being a professional comes into play and he's just doing none
07:02of the things.
07:02And it's not just what we've seen here in the last month or so regarding Washington.
07:06It's all the actions going back to last year with the 49ers, you know, that led to San Francisco stripping
07:13away a lot of the guaranteed money from his deals because I guess he started skipping rehab assignments and yada,
07:20yada, yada.
07:21And, you know, he's also even without an agent, the NFLPA is right there to help your help his cause.
07:27They are here.
07:28Yes, they are.
07:29That's what they're there for.
07:30Right, what do I need to do to make this work?
07:33And they'll say, do this, do this, do this.
07:35And he's doing none of these things.
07:36So, you know, again, can he help them on the field?
07:39I don't know.
07:40Maybe.
07:41But can he help them in the locker room and with what they're trying to accomplish to get to their
07:45goals?
07:46I just don't see it.
07:48We're not seeing anything that would suggest that that's the case.
07:52Again, you could be, you know, you could do some bad things, some questionable things.
07:57You know, I believe in second chances.
07:59All that stuff.
08:00But you also have to, like, show that you're willing to, you know, follow the path of the organization or
08:08just normal business.
08:10And in this case, he's doing none of those things.
08:12Yeah.
08:12And it's something we've talked about and I mentioned last hour.
08:15Those that are closest to it, whether it's media or players or former players, and the latest to come out
08:22pretty strongly against him is George Kittle saying that he basically knows what's gone on and what's happened.
08:29And he feels like the 49ers have done a very good job throughout the process and handling it.
08:35Kyle's tried.
08:36He said John is in John Lynch's tried.
08:38Teammates have tried.
08:40And yet this is where we are.
08:42I mean, look, we don't know much, you know, from these seats that we're sitting in, including all of you
08:50listening.
08:51But if you just go by what those that are closer to the situation think, not one has taken his
08:59side and supported him.
09:00Not one, to my knowledge.
09:02Which, that typically is a tell if you want to pay attention to it.
09:07What if he decides to start showing up for the fan portions and to be a fan at training camp?
09:16Well, I was already thinking to myself, like, day one, I'm not going to rush to the field.
09:20I'm going to hang out in the parking lot and see if we have any sightings of Brandon Ayuk showing
09:28up.
09:29But, yeah, look, I mean, I don't know what the rules are.
09:33Like, he is still technically on the 49ers.
09:35So, like, it's not like you can be on another, you can't be with another team and then show up
09:40for practice, right?
09:41Like, so I don't even know what the rules would be.
09:43I mean, I'm just saying show up as a fan for the fan-related, the open practices to fans.
09:50I mean, look, I got to be honest with you.
09:52I now am really over him.
09:55Like, I want the whole thing to go away.
09:57I don't want him on our team.
10:00And I was a huge Brandon Ayuk fan.
10:03And six weeks, seven weeks ago, thought it would happen and would have looked forward to it happening.
10:09But I just don't have any patience anymore for somebody who is either too limited or too scared to take
10:20action to affect his own outcome.
10:23To me, that, along with all of the people that are close to him, that none of those people have
10:28supported him, that tells me all I need to know right now.
10:32He's going to get another shot at some point if he decides to take action to get back into the
10:37league.
10:38But I don't really want him as a part of this thing anymore.
10:42So I hope there's no disruption with him in Ashburn during training camp.
10:49Well, I think to me, this is where, and we've talked about this for the last several weeks, the rumors
10:55have been running wild.
10:56And, you know, in all kinds of directions, even beyond whatever Ayuk is saying, despite zero comments from Washington in
11:05any way, shape, or form, there's no, nobody has put out a report that Washington is desperate to sign him.
11:11Nobody's put out a report that they won't.
11:13All that has to have happened here at any point is, if they really are not interested, is just drop
11:19a text to somebody off the record, to you or to me or to Schefter or whatever, and say, we
11:25are not interested in Brandon Ayuk.
11:27And you could tell me that, like, they didn't give a crap.
11:30That's not their problem up until this point.
11:32If the dude is buying a house here, if this is real, like you're saying, and I think you're right,
11:38yeah, it's kind of becoming on your front door.
11:41You may want to just say something.
11:43What are you going to wait?
11:44Like, it's not going to come up on whenever we speak to Adam Peters and Dan Quinn next week.
11:49It's going to come up.
11:51You're going to answer it to wait for, like, the last second to put out something or just, what are
11:58you going to give us a non-answer?
11:59Like, it's going to have to, you're going to have to say something, so just say it now if you're
12:03not interested.
12:04You can't say you're interested.
12:06You can say you're not interested.
