00:00discuss the situation with the customer it's not about beauty but it's about
00:05healthy condition
00:09hi my name is Anaite and I'm here to get a medical pedicure I am clumsy and
00:14active and that's not like the greatest combo for my feet and I don't know how I
00:19injured my left toenail I dropped something or I was trying to jump today
00:25dr. Archer is gonna see it and like let me know how to take care of it I am
00:29best in a medical pedicure because I think it gives me a lot of security when
00:35I come here everything's clean and I love the staff Tatiana and dr. Archer
00:41something that best describes the way I practice is a combination of medicine and
00:46beauty and they really are intertwined I'm dr. Krista Archer I am a podiatrist on
00:51the Upper East Side of Manhattan a medical pedicure is a pedicure as most people
00:57think of it but it's offered in my office where we have surgical surgically
01:02sterile instruments and it's performed by a technician that I've trained and
01:07supervised
01:08my name is Tatiana and I'm a nail technician and I'm working for dr. Archer for
01:14Anaita today we're doing regular basic medical pedicure it's just a part of the
01:19maintenance and to continue and to improve her feet okay so good to have you
01:25here again so I see that you have this little bruise you didn't have it last
01:29time what happened to it I was kicking the sidewalk and like jumping and I also
01:34bruised here I mean it doesn't hurt but okay so let's start it she discovered she
01:43has a hematoma underneath her big toenail the bad thing about a hematoma is that
01:48fungus loves blood so it makes the nail very prone to getting a fungal infection
01:53or making an existing fungal infection worse so every single instrument is
02:00separately packed and disinfected in advance so I have my all packets of the
02:06instruments that necessary for this procedure you're guaranteed that you're
02:10not going to get an infection or a fungal infection it just helps them just be
02:16pain-free and fungus-free and infection-free down the line and then do
02:20the clip-in
02:28so after the clip-in then I would examine every nail and file and make sure that
02:32corners in a good shape the customer has a little fungus or something like that
02:37going on so I prefer to start with the food that doesn't have that
02:40or has less and then I change my tools while I'm working at the same time so
02:45I'm going to use the same tool on the other nail that doesn't have the fungus
02:55a hematoma it takes a really long time to grow out the nail plate grows about a
02:59millimeter a month so hematoma underneath the nail plate could take as long as a
03:03year to grow out and after that I do a little scrub it's a glycolic peel or
03:12fruit peel basically it's a glycolic wash that we use here it's necessary to get
03:16rid of all the buildup and dry skin and little to soften the callus soften cuticles
03:23and we use nail whitening so I put nail whitening on every single nail usually
03:29it's between 15 to 10 minutes
03:36and then I brush it off with a little brush and then I soak them
03:47so we soak feet give them a little massage a little scrub little movement in the water
03:52I put soaking salt which is Malaysian salt that also moisturizes skin and softens the callus or hard skin
04:03after this I clip all the cuticles I clean around I make sure that there is
04:08nothing left no any extra skin that shouldn't be there I put the disinfecting
04:15tea tree oil which is very important to this in fact to prevent the fungus and
04:19also to moisturize the skin and the cuticle area then after that we use diamond
04:27cell file which we also recommend to our customers to have at home for the
04:30maintenance it's like the best thing you can have at home to take care of your
04:34feet you clean it you brush it you rinse it and just keep it there in the shower
04:38it dries and ready to use for the next time at the end I do a little light
04:45massage with the moisturizing oil I use our cream that we have here doctors
04:50archers cream with different our plant extracts and also we add a little bit of
04:54vitamin E oil perfectly nourishes and moisturizes the skin and after that we
05:04discuss about the color what kind of nail polish they would like some people
05:08prefer just antifungal base coat they don't want any color because they want to
05:12see the condition of the nail so all this is done in about 50 minutes and that's
05:19what they call nice clean perfect medical pedicure okay it's all set I love it love
05:26the color you can't see the roof I love it thank you so my feet feel great they're
05:32very smooth and hydrated they have a cute color on and I did really well it was
05:38nice and brief pedicure every single nail was treated well and detailed and she
05:44walked away with some extra samples of fungal medication and instructions from
05:48me how to treat it going forward Tatiana and dr. Archer advised that I should keep
05:54on using the oil and then just try to not injure my feet so much I'm so happy I
06:00got the pedicure today because I'm planning my outfits for the weekend and I'm
06:05wearing open to shoes now so it's awesome
