00:00The doth piercing is located on the inside of the ear.
00:04The bottom of the piercing comes through the ear canal and the top of the piercing goes
00:09through this ridge that's right above the top of the ear canal.
00:17I'm Rosemary and I'm getting a doth piercing today.
00:19I want to get a doth piercing because I have it on my right ear and it's my most complimented
00:25piercing so I just want to get it done on the left ear, kind of just to match the sparkle
00:29it has.
00:29I have about four helix piercings on this ear but it kind of doesn't do it justice so the
00:34doth will look great in it.
00:36Total I have 20 piercings.
00:38I think I kind of just want to run out of space until it stops looking good but I don't
00:44think
00:44that'll happen anytime soon.
00:45I started getting piercings because I grew up in a Hispanic household where piercings were
00:51kind of looked down upon and I was always the good child that my parents really thought
00:56I wasn't going to do anything crazy.
00:57So when I turned 16 I started getting piercings just to show them they're just piercings you
01:02could remove them at the end of the day and it's just kind of to express yourself and that's
01:06what I've been doing for all these years.
01:09I'm Lucy Doll.
01:10I'm a piercer at Aesthetic Ambition in Marina Del Rey, California.
01:13I've been technically piercing for five years, six years if you count my apprenticeship.
01:17So I've always been into the more alternative aesthetics for myself especially when I was
01:23a little kid going online and seeing all sorts of cool people on there.
01:27Colored hair, piercings, tattoos.
01:29So when I had the opportunity to get into the industry of performing those and getting
01:35to look like that on a daily basis I was all in.
01:37So the doth piercing is located on the inside of the ear.
01:42Here the bottom of the piercing comes through the ear canal and the top of the piercing goes
01:46through this ridge that's right above the top of the ear canal.
01:50Hi, I'm Lucy.
01:51I'm going to be helping you out today.
01:52So for your doth piercing let's take a look at some jewelry.
01:55We've got some basic rings, we've got some opals, crystals, different colors, different shapes.
02:00Is there something we're kind of leaning towards?
02:03Um, I'm thinking opals today.
02:04Opals for sure?
02:05Okay.
02:05We've got the circular blue one here, a little teardrop one here, it's one or the other coming
02:10out tears.
02:10I'll do the teardrop.
02:12Teardrop?
02:12Okay, let's do it.
02:14Getting a doth piercing is pretty painful since it is a big piece of cartilage but I'm excited
02:20for it.
02:21Pain kind of excites me so I'm ready for it.
02:24I am kind of nervous to see how it'll turn out, maybe it'll be a little bit too much but
02:29it's
02:30something, you know, that I'm excited for either way.
02:33So first I will prep Rosemary's ear.
02:36I use a sterile alcohol swab to do so.
02:40Once she is prepped and dried I will go ahead and slide on what we call a size placement ring.
02:47Once that fake ring is in the proper position I can mark where the ends of those rings hit
02:52the tissue.
02:53Once that's done and I have it all marked out I'll remove the ring, wipe her down with
02:58some iodine and let that dry.
03:01While that's drying I'm going to go ahead and don my sterile gloves.
03:06Once I do so I can bend my needle.
03:09So I use a pair of sterile ring bending pliers in order to bend the extra long needle here.
03:15I will bend it at basically a half circle in the front and a half circle in the back.
03:20So once I am all aligned and I'm ready to go I will have Rosemary take a big deep breath
03:25breath in.
03:27She'll let it out nice and slow and we'll get that piercing through.
03:31Once it's done it's pretty quick and I slide the needle all the way through, get the ring
03:37in, close the ring, pop her blue opal in there and now it's time to clean her all up.
03:43And now it's time for the mirror reveal.
03:45Alright, take a look.
03:47Oh my gosh, it looks great.
03:50Yay, it's so cute.
03:50Thank you so much.
03:51It is cute.
03:52I think it looks perfect.
03:54Yes, it compliments the bottom opal so well.
03:57It looks great.
03:58Yeah, it's so nice.
03:59Yeah, it balances your ear really nicely I think.
04:02Yes, thank you.
04:03Yeah, of course.
04:04It's so beautiful.
04:05It really compliments everything so nicely and it just makes me feel so much better.
04:09I do recommend using a sterile seaming one to two times a day but we'll spray bottom,
04:14right?
04:14Yeah.
04:14Yeah.
04:14So you'll spray the top and bottom after you shower, clear away crusty stuff, dry blood,
04:18things like that with a Q-tip.
04:20Otherwise you will touch it and push it.
04:22Sounds good.
04:22Thank you so much.
04:23Yeah, of course.
04:24The doth can be a little bit tricky to heal just because you are healing with a hoop.
04:29Hoops put natural pressure on piercings so when you're just healing with that constant
04:33tugging it can be a little bit of an issue especially if the ring is too small which I see
04:37very often.
04:38Also, if you wear earbuds, airpods, earplugs, anything like that, you're not going to anymore
04:45if you get a doth piercing just because the bottom comes right out in the ear canal.
04:49And if you were to put anything in there, it would put excess pressure, a non-sterile object in there
04:55and that could just cause problems.
04:56When I was about to get pierced, I just think that it'll be over quickly.
05:00It's just a quick pain and then it's over with.
05:02And the result is amazing.
05:04When I looked at the finished result, I loved it.
05:08It just looks so great and it shines so nicely.
05:11Working with Lucy is such an amazing experience.
05:14She's such a good person and she makes you feel really comfortable.
05:18Rosemary was fantastic.
05:19I've seen her before in here.
05:20I've helped her change her jewelry so she is a familiar face and it's always nice to see that.
05:24She kind of just wanted me to suggest some jewelry options, which was nice.
05:28And she was cool with whatever, which is always a nice, chill client to have.
05:32Pain-wise, it didn't hurt at all.
05:34It still doesn't hurt.
05:35It looks really nice.
05:36So it was really over with quickly.
05:39I know the healing process will take quite a while and I'm ready for it.
05:43I would love to see how long it takes just so I can get a new one quicker.
05:47I'm going to make sure to clean it really well once a day just like Lucy instructed.
05:52Other than that, I'll leave it alone because I don't want to mess with it.
05:55If you're afraid of needles, I would say just go for it.
05:58It's a quick and easy pain and you'll be done with it before you know it.
06:17It'sileen
06:17Can I teach themnisайн ontreet and to creep aoyette well once it comes out?
06:20But what do you think of these oh my god, that's the most amazing thing I could tell?
06:20It's very special for you guys.
