00:02I'm not a fan of needles.
00:06I cry when the doctor has to draw blood.
00:10So I am very terrified about putting needles in my face.
00:19When I was younger, I was always against plastic surgery.
00:22I thought, why don't people just like who they are, the way they are?
00:25When I was being treated by an acupuncturist, without me being aware of my dark circles,
00:30he pointed them out to me and said, if you eat a few servings of fish a week, that'll go
00:35away.
00:36My name is Jennifer, I'm 36 years old, and today I'm getting tear trough fillers.
00:42As I'm approaching 40, I do start to rethink my thought of never doing any cosmetic procedure.
00:49I don't wear makeup, so this is an alternative to that.
00:53Something to boost up my appearance as I'm getting older.
00:56I do hope that it will reduce the amount that I am self-conscious about my dark circles.
01:01I don't know that it will, but I'm willing to try.
01:05I love the under eye filler procedure because the results are really instantaneous.
01:09Hi, I'm Dr. Annie Chu, and I'm a board-certified dermatologist at the Derm Institute.
01:13I went to Samford for medical school, and I've been practicing cosmetic dermatology for 10 years now.
01:20Some people, genetically, just have a little bit more hollowing under the eye.
01:25Knowing that it does dissolve naturally over time, can you tell, based on my skin type, how long it might
01:31last?
01:32Yeah, under eye fillers typically last between nine months to a year for the average person.
01:37It can be longer if you've done it over a period of time.
01:44I've never had any cosmetic treatment before, invasive or non-invasive.
01:55Alright.
01:56I do anticipate being very nervous.
02:02We put a little numbing under the eye.
02:14And then use a little, tiny pilot needle just to create a tiny opening.
02:28And then we insert a flexible tube-like structure.
02:31It's kind of like a straw, called a micro cannula.
02:39And you just glide under, and place the hyaluronic filler where the defect is.
02:52Doing great.
02:54A little bit of pressure.
03:01Do I always look like an alien?
03:03No, you don't.
03:04It looks awesome.
03:05We'll get to the other side.
03:06We'll make it smooth and easy.
03:10Take a little pinch.
03:37We're done.
03:39We're gonna ice the area.
03:42It was uncomfortable.
03:44I definitely felt the pressure and I felt a little pain.
03:47It looks awesome.
03:49Afterwards though, I mean, it's amazing the difference.
03:55It's so crazy.
03:57I corrected her today enough so she could definitely see a result right off the bat.
04:01I think it's important to do it in stages so we don't over traumatize and have too much swelling.
04:07The difference that it made is huge to me.
04:11I love dermatology because we are honored to be able to make patients feel more confident
04:16and fabulous about who they are in their skin.
