00:00I miss having long hair so much. I'm excited but I'm scared because I'm
00:05scared to take care of them. Hi, I'm Sierra Furtado and I'm getting extensions
00:10today. I've been wanting to get extensions for so long. I recently chopped
00:14my hair off and I was so sad because I just love long hair. I'm Chrissy from
00:20Habit Salon. We've had Habit in Gilbert, Arizona for about 22 years. We're so
00:25excited because today Sierra is coming in from California. She's never had
00:29extensions before and she's always wanted to have brighter blonde hair and I
00:33think it will look so amazing on her so we chose to do that as well.
00:40Okay, Sierra, I'm so excited. You're going to be talking about this forever. Yeah. We
00:45already talked about like what length you want and color. We're just gonna brighten
00:49it up. Yes. Maybe make it a little blonder and then I mean I kind of want it
00:54to do like my length, don't you think? Or longer. Or longer. Yeah. The longer the better.
00:59Sounds good. Okay, let's get started. Let's do it.
01:04We will start putting in the beads and we don't do them super tight because we don't
01:09want them to be irritating and we're gonna sew the hair on and then we will do the
01:14next row. So I'm getting three rows and I feel like that's kind of a lot so that's a little
01:21scary but yeah I'm kind of scared to sleep with them. I don't know like if they get
01:26tangly or not. So far, so far they don't hurt. The beads. I think that's what they're
01:32doing. I don't know. But my mom has had them before and she says that they're fine. She
01:41literally went swimming in the ocean for a month straight with them and it was literally
01:44just like her regular hair.
01:49I started doing hair in like 1994. In 2000, the whole clip and extension thing started.
01:57They didn't have a lot of options of colors so I got really good at coloring and
02:02customizing them. Me and all my assistants discovered the habit extension method. With
02:08this method there isn't tension on your scalp so that way your hair can keep growing and
02:13stay thick. It's the best method I've ever, ever found that I would use on myself and use
02:17on my clients and have them feel confident even when we took them out.
02:24So then we're gonna baby light up the back, taking small sections, doing mostly her root
02:30because she's mostly blonde already. We want her to have a cute money piece so that it's really
02:35bright and fun and beachy but I also want it to grow out good. I want her roots to be
02:40really
02:41natural and not a straight line when it grows out.
02:45So usually I tell my clients, a lot of people coming from out of town, most people were doing a
02:50makeover. Most people were doing like a color makeover and extension makeover. I like to do both
02:55at the same time because it can really blend everything together. Then we will let it process and we
03:02will wait till it's done and then we will go ahead and tone her up.
03:10So first we are going to smudge the root and we're going to use like a level nine because I
03:14want it to be really bright still but I want to kind of diffuse that line a little bit.
03:23And then we'll wash out her toners. We'll bring her back and we'll dry her up and then we will
03:29wave
03:29her up. Keep it that beachy, summery, fresh, amazing look and she is good to go. So this is Sierra's
03:37ending.
03:42It feels so good. It feels like my real hair. I mean I need to get used to it still
03:47but it feels
03:48really comfortable. It doesn't hurt. I love long hair. I just always feel better with long hair so I'm
03:54excited about it. We had so much fun working with Sierra. She's so cute. We loved giving her a
04:01makeover and I feel like she looks amazing. I think she feels more confident and I think she
04:06really likes it also. Thank you so much for watching Refinery29. To watch more videos click here
