00:00Jake, you're also one of the producers of the movie, so I was wondering, pickleball is the fastest growing sport
00:07in the United States, but how did the idea of combining it with a story of redemption came about?
00:13You know, it came about through our writer, Sean Clements. He is a former tennis player. He went through this
00:23journey where he started playing pickleball to recover from an injury. He started playing with some older women. They made
00:31fun of him and they beat him, and he started becoming part of their group of friends, and then he
00:35got insecure that he was friends with a group of 75-year-old women.
00:39And so when he told me that premise of an idea, I thought that was very funny. Then his jokes
00:45throughout and his ability to tell a story are great. But then when we got Josh Greenbaum, the great director,
00:51who I think is one of the top American directors, I knew we were in good shape, but I said,
00:57I don't do the movie unless there's one man with me. And that's my road dog, my number one, Mr.
01:01Aaron Chen.

01:13Actually, this is a question for the both of you. The interaction between your characters are really, really funny. So
01:19how did you work to achieve this chemistry? Is there any behind the scenes story you can share with us?
01:25That's a question for my road dog.
01:27We had a lot of chemistry together because we did kind of workshops for chemistry and stuff like that. We
01:38would do challenges, go around the world together and stuff like that.
01:42Three leg races, the stuff where you grab like an egg and you got to run, you know, throwing water
01:46balloons to each other, but they're not allowed to break.
01:49And then we transferred that into a movie.
01:55And Jake, I found the John McRose cameo absolutely brilliant.
02:00Same with me.
02:01How did it come about? Did he suggest anything about what to say or to do?
02:06Yeah, well, it came about late. It was actually Josh Greenbaum gave a really great suggestion and that was in
02:12post-production, we're going to want some voiceover for the narration of the match so we can have kind of
02:18more control.
02:18And so then the idea was, well, do we have like a like a commentator in the booth?
02:25And I don't know if it was he or Sean who came up with the idea.
02:29What if it's macaroni's just sitting in the crowd narrating?
02:33And when somebody first said it, it just sounded like a joke.
02:36And then it just got more and more real and then it was written in and we were all laughing
02:43and he said yes and it happened.
02:46And then there was a joke that he keeps eating bigger and bigger food.
02:49And then we were on set and he's eating like a huge pretzel.
02:54It was hilarious.
02:55He liked it as well. He liked to eat the food.
02:57He loved it.
02:58Yeah.
03:00And if there should be a sequel, which tennis player do you like to have on board?
03:05Oh, that's interesting.
03:07It must be Yannick Sinner, surely.
03:11Absolutely.
